OTB at the Boathouse is such a hidden gem! They consistently have fresh, delicious salads and wraps, and their house-made balsamic is fantastic. I also love their house-made chips, they're so good! One of my favorite things about OTB is the setting. The view of the lake is absolutely beautiful, and I especially love sitting outside and enjoying the scenery while I eat. Stopped into OTB in North Park after a little time away and wondered why we had almost forgotten this gem. Situated on North Park lake right next to the kayak livery with ample parking in the park, this is an ideal place to cool off and get some sustenance after your park activities. There is a bar area and indoor seating, as well as a nice waterfront patio with lots of tables with umbrellas if shade is needed. Good selection of craft and mass produced beer choices as well as other cocktails. Some interesting appetizers like spring rolls and house dip with chips as well as pretzel sticks and beer cheese. This place has really found its rhythm and settled into being one of our favorite places to eat during the spring and summer months. There can be a wait during the lunch and dinner hours, but it's worth it. The first impressions are amazing. The inside is small but nicely decorated. Your eyes want to dart around and take in all of the elements that surround you. On our last visit, I was surprised by a bike hidden up in a ceiling nook I had never seen before. The whole restaurant has a breathtaking view of the man-made lake at North Park. Be sure to sit outside so you can take in as much of the view as possible. The atmosphere is abuzz with activity: there are runners taking on the 5-mile loop around the lake, there are kayakers and stand-up paddle boarders setting off to explore the far reaches of the lake, and there are birds and turtles and fish livin' their best life. My family and I have found our favorites on the menu: the Bike Lane BLT and the Chimichurri Chicken Bowl. Both are really good, but we tend to lean toward the BLT. It's just so unique! The kids' meals also come with a cute little surprise: the plate is a frisbee that they get to take home. How cool is that? North Park is easily one of my favorite places in Pittsburgh, and this is just another reason why. read more

This is truly such a heavenly place to enjoy a meal! The view of the lake is absolutely gorgeous and I was so delighted to have such perfect seating!! Our server was honestly not friendly at all, and always in a rush to get away from the table, but luckily this view of the lake distracted us enough. The burger was delicious and I loved the cucumber salad as well! I happily ate it all and it was the perfect amount. I also got a ginger beer, which was a brand that I had never tried before and it was pretty good! It was a light and sweet ginger beer, so I would recommend it if you're interested in trying something a bit different than a soda. We went here for the first time on Memorial Day just before 4 pm and got seated inside right away. We split the "Curb Hoppers" fried cheese curds and they were perfectly seasoned and so delicious! I got "The Cog" aka Cobb salad with crispy chicken & balsamic vinaigrette and it was incredible! I'm weird & picky with chicken dishes, but the crispy chicken was great! My fiancé got the "Double Flat" smashburger and devoured it - he let me try a bite and it was so yummy! The fries weren't as good as we were hoping unfortunately - they were a little too crispy and almost airy. But the ranch was so good! We also got a couple of their "Free Wheelers" mocktails! I can't remember the names now and can't find them, but mine was a cucumber & mint drink, and his was a berry & ginger beer drink. Both were so refreshing! Our server was super sweet, and she brought out a pitcher of water for us to keep at our table, because I'd downed the first two cups super fast (we had walked/jogged the north park loop beforehand). Even though we couldn't get a seat outside, we were facing the lake and it was such a vibe. It made me feel like I wasn't even in Pittsburgh and that I was on vacation! We always enjoy going to the boathouse. It's extra special on a nice day on the patio is open and a nice cool breeze from the lake! Service is always friendly and attentive, even when they are a bit busy. Recommend on a weekend to put your name in on the list and expect a bit of a wait before you can get your table. We have been coming here since they opened. It's such a beautiful location in North Park, especially if you get lucky enough to eat on the patio. You can watch the kayakers on the water or people on the shore. The lake is so calming. The food is always so good. We love their burgers. My husband is very picky and likes their burger with bacon and (stay with me), peanut butter. It sounds weird but is delicious. It is so creamy and pairs so well with the burger. I like either having burgers and fries or a burger on a salad. You can't go wrong with their burgers. They're always so moist and flavorful. The staff is always nice too. read more

Based on my friend's recommendation, we decided to go here after walking around the Rachel Carson Trail for a while since we were in the Allison Park area. Very cool looking building, and the outdoor seating near the water and the fire makes you feel like you're on vacation. The waiter was also super friendly and played along with our jokes. He strongly recommended the chimichurri chicken, so I ordered it. I like that there's a healthier part of the menu too, although with what I ordered, I wish there were more salad greens. It tasted excellent with the chimichurri sauce, but I wish it was less heavy on the rice. More lettuce greens and less rice, or even completely swapping the rice for a salad, would have made me like this a lot more. Maybe even just calling it or having the option for a chimichurri salad and making it a really robust salad with more greens and vegetables. The rice wasn't bad, just kind of an excessive portion and didn't really go with the meal. My friend really loved his burger, and the pulled pork sandwich was good. While I'm not usually a French fry person, theirs were good, and I would actually recommend serving the fries with the spicy cheese dip they serve with the soft pretzels to take it up a notch. That was an interesting choice for an appetizer. While I'm not really a beer person, I can say the beer they serve here is very smooth after trying a sip lol. We especially loved hanging out by the fire pit after, especially since it was a chilly night. There's just something so comforting about sitting by a fire. read more

It had great heat from the hot sauce. There wasn't enough chicken for such a large pita, but the flavor was good. My side salad was fine for an alternative to fries but lacking for an up charge. First time at the boathouse. It was pretty busy so we had an hour wait which wasn't too bad. However, once we got seated our waitress pretty much abandoned us. We had ordered drinks and one of the beers never came and we had to ask to take it off the bill. The burgers were great, everything tasted good but the service was horrible. One of the nicest atmospheres you could have for a good meal, especially in the warmer months. It is also very kid friendly. My wife, two kids, and I sat outside on the deck area. All the kayakers and the water kept the kids distracted. I've been to the other OTB locations and the food at this one is just as delicious. My wife and I split the chicken Caesar wrap. It was made perfect and had great flavor. Highly recommend the firehouse dip and the burgers here as well. read more

I recommended Over The Bar to my dad after he completed a marathon, expecting a great experience to celebrate. Unfortunately, it turned into a very disappointing and frustrating situation. I have medically necessary food allergies and brought my own food for safety. Even after clearly explaining this, I was told I had to leave due to their no outside food policy. What was most concerning wasn't just the policy, but how it was handled. There was no empathy, no willingness to understand, and the interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional. Situations involving medical or dietary needs should be approached with far more care and awareness, especially considering the importance of accommodating health-related restrictions. This experience raised serious concerns about how guests with medical needs are treated, and whether adequate consideration is given to accessibility and accommodation in situations like this. I hope management takes a closer look at their approach. read more

My husband and I recently stopped in for lunch and can't wait to come back in the summer time when we can rent kayaks, walk around North Park and eat outside on the patio! We loved the pretzels with beer cheese and both of us got a sandwich -- my husband enjoyed his spicy chicken sandwich and I loved the buffalo chicken wrap, which is in a super soft pita. $75 bucks for a terrible meal! So much sauce on the burger it was inedible and the sandwich I got had so much melted cheese mixed in with the pulverized meat it was gross. What bummed us out tremendously was the slow service and kitchen time. I think we waited an hour for a table, 15 minutes for our beers and 45 minutes for our food.
