Cheated of his hard earned meal and instead given the more stale bread Yato has ever eaten. Not even the Arizona could wash it down my throat. Yato threw it to the pigeons. Not even they wanted it however. NYC pigeons didn't want it; that says something. Yato was worried about what the sandwich was. No advise effects thankfully, but Yato won't return. read more

I ordered a caesar salad via Seamless. When the delivery came the caesar dressing was missing. When I called Othello Deli, I asked the guy who answered the phone (I think he might have been the owner) if he could have the missing dressing delivered, since a caesar salad without the dressing is just lettuce and chicken that I paid $20 for. I was then told 3 things. First, that it was somehow the Seamless delivery guy's fault (however he's not the one who prepares/packages the food, he just delivers it). Second, I was told that it would be delivered by one of the deli workers if I tipped them in cash (after I already paid a million fees for the original delivery). Third, the guy finally told me he would pay the driver from his own pocket to deliver the dressing (and made it sound like he was doing me a favor). This whole ridiculous song and dance went on for 10 minutes, but in the end, thankfully the dressing was delivered. This incident took place on Sunday (5/18/25) and I've stopped shopping here both online and in-person, ever since. read more

The guy who works the morning shift here has zero customer service skills and an insanely nasty attitude. I've gone here plenty of times before but he is now the reason I won't go any longer. I had dealt with him once before where he stared right through me as I asked easy to answer questions and then looked stupefied when I clarified his answers when paying for a simple sandwich. Went in again today and he was yelling for the person who was next but we waited to make sure others had ordered and that we weren't cutting any lines. When we didn't move up fast enough for his liking, he kept yelling "Next! Who's next!" And then he points to another customer and yells, "He ordered already!" I walked up and told him he didn't need to yell at us and he basically rolled his eyes and didn't apologize for barking at us like dogs. I proceeded to ask about the breakfast special they've had advertised outside for MONTHS and he made this dumbfounded look and he looked from side to side (why he felt he needed to act and play charades, I have no clue) and says, "We don't have that anymore." His attitude was utterly disrespectful and now the both of us won't ever walk in there again. Get better staff because that excuse for a human being at the front counter has to GO!!! read more

Nice Deli -rude service So I came here a few weeks back and order a churrasco sandwich, prosciutto and mozzarella hero and an Othello slider. When I asked for a recommendation I was told to just look at the menu on the wall. The good thing is that all sandwiches, heros were fresh. when we brought them home. I'm usually by myself for Thanksgiving and this year, for some reason I was feeling especially festive and therefore wanted to have a proper Thanksgiving dinner. But it was already almost dinnertime by the time I realized that I wanted that. I looked for some single-serve dinner on reddit and hit up restaurants nearby, but as it was last minute most places had limited options. I talked to my mom (who used to live in the US but then moved back to Japan) and she recommended checking out the local deli so I did - and I hit jackpot at Othello's Deli! I felt awkward asking for the Thanksgiving plate because I was by myself, but the guy at the Deli was super happy to get the food ready for me. He enlightened me with background story of his Thanksgiving food - that there are many families that come in last minute to grab like eight plates from here and he went through 35 turkeys this year to prepare the food! He assured me that I'm going to love his food, and I did. Unfortunately they ran out of mashed potato by the time I was there (around 5:30pm), but they made up by adding extra stuffing and the sweet potato. The food was a little on the salty side but it was totally acceptable and worth it. The plate was $20, which was the most reasonable dinner I could find around the neighborhood. The stuffing and the sweet potato was amazing. I'm so excited thinking about the leftovers I have right now. I'm so grateful that Othello's was there when I was coveting Thanksgiving food! This place is absurdly expensive. It's a bodega! The prices don't match the type of establishment. Literally went in and ordered two double bacon, egg, and cheeses and two bottled cokes, and the total came to over $21!! How is that possible? When I got home and ate the sandwich, it was hardly a "double". Fairly wimpy for a $10.50 meal. They also charge $27 for a 12 pack of white claw! You can literally buy 24 cans for that price from Costco. That's a 50% markup. I will never ever return here as long as these prices are this high. read more

I used to love Othello's but my last two visits make it clear that they aren't taking our health and safety seriously. Last week I went in and, even though there was a sign on the door saying that you needed a mask, they were letting people in without them. Two days ago I had to run in and the sign was gone. People were inside without masks and the employees had theirs under their chin. I asked "are you just letting people in without masks now?" And they said yes, and there's no way to enforce it. I said that it was still the policy that everyone had to wear masks, so that's the grounds to enforce it. The employee tried to tell me that Cuomo had reversed the mandate and declared masks dangerous... even though the quickest google search could confirm that. I can't recommend a place that doesn't take out health and safety seriously- especially when they serve food in there. read more

Standard NYC style bodega/deli. We ordered the 911 and godfather "super" heros and wasn't really impressed with either. Extra charge for simple toppings like tomatoes, onions, and jalapeños, which I find shocking. No spicy red pepper relish to add to the subs which I find somewhat criminal for a deli that serves cold Italian subs. Portions are standard. Ok, I may be biased, I go into Othello's so often. It's my local. Besides the breakfast sandwiches, coffee, and ice coffee, their lunches are fantastic whether you want hot food, a hot sandwich or a wrap. BUT, the best thing about Othello's - is their "holiday to go plates" for St. Patrick's Day and Thanksgiving. The "to go" dinners are the best in the city. There are probably thousands of corner deli's in the big city. Few, I doubt, can match Othellos in freshness, cleanliness and quality. Staying virtually across the street for several days, I've had the chance to go in for coffee and iced coffee and other item a number of times, and at any given time there are a consistent group of policemen and construction workers waiting for their breakfast orders. This morning I indulged and ordered an egg sandwich with sausage and cheese on a roll. Sure everything was made fresh to order as you would expect. But the roll was amazing...tasted like it was just baked, and made a regular sandwich special. Next time I visit this part of Astoria I'm going for breakfast a lot more often. read more

I'm SO happy I rediscovered Othello's Deli. I used to live near 24th Ave over 20 years ago and will never forget the first time I ordered the Yankee Clipper. It was amazing!!! And ENORMOUS. I never forgot that sandwich. I can proudly say that 22 years later, I'm regularly ordering that Yankee Clipper. It's SO delicious. No skimping on the Boar's Head here. You can feed 2 people with the hero. I tend to order the roll these days - still gigantic but easier for me to make a single meal out of. read more

I've lived down the block from this deli for almost 7 years and it's been nothing but great to me. Open early and generally late enough that it doesn't bother me terribly that it's not 24 hours. The guys behind the counter are friendly and helpful, even when it's super busy (as it often is), and at this point, I get greeted by Sammy and Jose working the register in the morning and evenings. The food, especially the sandwiches, are always fresh and really high quality, and BIG. They have a ton of sandwiches on their big screen menus (I keep trying to work my way through them all, but I keep getting stuck on the Al Pacino, which is chicken cutlet, roasted red peppers, and fresh mozz on a roll or hero with oil and red wine vinegar - so good, though I take it with honey mustard instead of oil and vinegar), but they have lots of salads, too; tuna, pasta, chicken, buffalo chicken, seafood, etc. More than that, it's a great spot to run in when you run out of some of the staples and don't have time for a more full shopping trip - toilet paper, a piece of fruit, box of pasta, mustard/mayo/ketchup, soap, drain unclogger stuff, and on and on. read more

TL; DR: I might just have to get over my "I am NOT ordering from no place in NYC that charges a fee to deliver in this here city!" rule...cuz Othello is off the chain! The whole hero: On a busy travel day, I ordered up a breakfast hero AND a lunch hero for the plane. Took a risk with a new joint, but they arrived on time and the order was perfect, right down to special requests. And those heroes are HUGE! EASY two meals out of them, or one big ole splurge of a belly buster! The Big Boy Bfast Sammy was BOMB! Everything cooked perfectly. Quality bread keepin' it together. The All American Super Hero was also delightful! I come from a hoagie-lovin' state, and am particular about my hoagies/sub/heroes. Othello does it right, even using cracked peppermill turkey at my special request. I lugged that thing from my house, to the airport, and on a plane...and it kept it's shape and freshness just fine. I am SO glad Othello was the only deli at that time of morning offering what I was craving, or I might not have given them a shot, which would have been MY lose! The roll they use is a little more substantial and chewier than most others which really does make it a different sandwich than the standard. my buddy and i would grab some breakfast and lunch at othellos deli when we were doing some needed repairs on his house nearby and overall its ok for a deli but its better then ok for choices as the breakfast and lunch menu is extensive . the sandwiches are named after celebs like pacino, jeter, etc and if you prefer a turkey and swiss on a roll minus the gimmicky name then you are in the right place. for 5 straight mornings i would order egg whites on a wedge with slice tomatoes and a bottle of apple juice and for lunch for 5 straight days i would alternate from chicken salad on roll one day and smoke turkey with swiss on rye bread on another day with a few days of chicken wings with fries in the mix. overall its a local area deli that you can get the basics and a bit more and for me thats good enough . read more

I've been living down the block from Othello's for over 3 years. This is my go-to place for deli meats, six packs, breakfast sandwiches and the occasional last-minute pint of Ben & Jerry's. Prices are relatively expensive, but you are paying for the convenience (Deli meats actually cheaper than Key Food though!). Never used my credit card there, they charge extra, but that is an option. Jose was the best, but he's gone now. Can get pretty crowded in the mornings and sometimes it's a bit tricky to figure out who is waiting for a sandwich vs waiting in line to pay. Owner seems to enjoy parking his car (white Mercedes; license plate "Juice Dr") in the middle of the crosswalk most weekday mornings --- would be nice if he stopped doing that. read more

For some reason, Othello's Deli is mentioned twice. I did a review for it's previous location. Now it is about a half block away. Different location, same great food & service. I am more than happy to give them a second glowing review. I walk by Othello's on the way home from work. Sometimes, if I have worked late or don't want to cook anything for dinner, I'll stop by. The hot meals are usually very good. They change from day to day, but if you are there when they have their pot roast or brisket, I highly recommend it. Where they really excel is with their sandwiches. The sandwiches on their menu are great. My personal favorites are the Empire State, the Bronx Bomber, and the Derek Jeter. They also make a very good sandwich which is like a Reuben, but with bacon. I forget the name (the Hollywood?). Of course, they will make any sandwich you ask. They have a great selection of cold cuts & cheeses, as well as any side salad you may want (potato, macaroni, coleslaw, etc.) They also make a very decent Philly cheesesteak. The service is always good and friendly, even when the place is crowded and busy. The deli is also a very decent grocery. The prices will be higher than in a supermarket, but not outrageously so. They also have a great selection of beers. For a small place, it's pretty well stocked. Unless the hours have changed recently, I don't believe they are opened 24 hours. However, they do come pretty close (maybe 22 hours?). I've stopped by at midnight, and I've noticed people stopping by for coffee and breakfast in the wee hours of the morning. This is a well stocked deli with a large menu and consistently delicious food. Their sandwiches are perfection and I eat them for dinner at least twice a week. My absolute favorite is the Bad Boy, with the Chicken Cordon Bleu coming in as a close second. If I'm starving, I can eat an entire hero solo; the nice thing is, if I'm only moderately hungry, it's large enough to split with another person. They have a decent variety of snacks (chips, candy, ice cream, frozen pizza, etc.), soups, basic cleaning supplies, as well as a small selection of fresh produce and vegetable platters/veggie dips. You can definitely go there to grab a few last minute items if you're having a small gathering or if you just need snacks for your evening in. Their beer selection is pretty impressive; overall, Othello's just has a better supply of everything than you'd expect from a local deli. Great selection very clean and organized BUT the coffee is so watered down I can barely taste a thing. Stuck inside with two babies and desperately needed a boost, ordered a bunch of stuff just for the purpose of coffee and I'm pretty bummed out.
