Still definitely the best diner in Astoria hands down! Whether we come here for dinner or order delivery, it always hits the spot. Last time was last week for breakfast, we didn't want to leave the house so we ordered in. Their breakfast always makes my day! I could have it at any time of the day. The delivery was super fast, we got our food within 30 minutes. We both got scrambled eggs, French fries and home fries with crispy bacon and toast. Not bad for $15 a plate when a breakfast sandwich alone now goes for $15. We try to come for dinner at least twice a month as they have dinner specials. Thank you Michaels! read more

We got a recommendation from a stranger that the absolute best mozzarella sticks he's ever had is at Michael's Restaurant on Broadway. Yes, the mozzarella sticks specifically because the marinara sauce is very fresh and full of herbs, while the mozzarella sticks themselves are perfectly made and taste amazing. Not that I was out looking for the best mozzarella sticks, but he got me curious and I had to try it out for myself. These mozzarella sticks are thinner than your typical ones, so it feels and tastes crunchier. I think the mozzarella sticks are really good but the best part about this appetizer is the sauce. You could taste all the ingredients that it's made of, the freshness of the herbs. I'm a tomato girl, so that's why I'm a fan of the sauce. My husband said you could tell it's elevated mozzarella sticks based on the look itself. Quality gourmet mozzarella sticks and the marinara sauce just goes so well with it. My friends and I are looking for a place to eat and talk where we won't feel rushed. That used to be the Neptune and were hoping this might be a decent replacement. It is not, unfortunately. We gave it a few tries and and were disappointed each time. First off, they don't really believe in AC in July. It's uncomfortably warm in there. If you're looking for a glass of ice water to cool you down, look elsewhere. The ice has all melted. The food is edible but barely so. My fries were stuck together and overdone. There's little to no flavoring on the food. I tried both a burger and chicken fingers - a staple of any diner. Both were as bland as could be, almost to the point where they had no taste. Being that I'm a girl who lived on Long Island for half of my life, I feel like I am somewhat of a diner aficionado. That being said, when our friend suggested Michael's I was excited to grab some late night eats at the amazing Michael's in Astoria. A quick nod to the host/server as he motioned for us to grab a booth. We quickly obliged. Four typical diner menus spread across the table and after a brief deliberation we decided on 3 wraps and a burger (coming soon to a theater near you). My wrap was the Italia wrap. Prosciutto, mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes and roasted peppers. The prosciutto was crispy which was delish. A few too many sun-dried tomatoes, but you can always take them out. Overall a good wrap. Fries were crisp and their honey mustard for dipping my fries was a good one. A pretty good unsweetened iced tea was also given to me in a to go cup upon my request. I knew I would need it for my ride home. Overall a solid spot for some late night snacking or comfort food. I'd come back for sure! read more

This is seriously a neighborhood gem! Angelo the owner is a wonderful man that treated my parents like family because this was their neighborhood go to dinner place. I grew up in Astoria now in Eastern Queens but do visit the area and came here twice last week and twice it was a hit! It is even better than it was before. The spinach pie I got was perfect!!!! The thing that hit the spot was my second visit when I ordered a Salmon dinner special with baked potato. I loved my potato and the skin was burnt a bit I love that. So glad I decided to come here and did not go somewhere else to eat as this was delicious. Do not be shy to ask them how to cook your proteins fish meat etc... they will gladly oblige. The coffee here is really good NY coffee! Really good vibe here they are open 24 hours! If you get Maria as your waitress you are in luck she is a doll! Great diner option in the area. Very friendly staff. It has a typical diner decor and feel inside with plenty of booths. You can not tell from the outside that it is a diner and probably why I passed it so many times. Nice photos in the wall showing areas of Astoria in the early 1900s versus the '90s. Went here twice recently for breakfast and food is pretty good. They have typical diner menu with about 6 pages of options, and prices are not bad. Will definitely revisit when in the area and in mood for a diner option. read more

Have walked by this place countless times. Nothing glamorous from the outside, and even inside looks dated. But this is family owned, owner sat us down. Orders were taken quickly, you could tell plenty of regulars here. Huge menu, never bodes well even for a diner. I decided to take a stab at the Roman pizza, we also got fried chicken, fries, sausage and eggs, chicken souvlaki platter. Wow that grilled chicken was so juicy, very flavorful. The potato from home fries amazing, so simple but good. My mom loved the chicken orzo. The fried chicken was average and pizza was interesting. So why didn't it get 5 stars? Mostly because this is the standard for diner food, and if this was in rural Kansas maybe but in Astoria NY, I think it's got to stand out. read more

Got the Roast LI Duckling, very well prepared and comes with a lot of food! Soup, potatoes, vegetable (carrot for me) and the stuffing with the Duckling was really sweet especially with the orange sauce! Also forgot to mention the bread -- butter at just the right almost melted temperature, and the bread was soft to my braces. Did I mention the cracker too? Perfect for dipping in the orange sauce and the soup. Lasted two days -- word of advice, when reheating duck, do it on the stovetop. Also, it won't come out as good the second day, so eat what you can the first time! Service was right on point, with everything from water to the right questions and good timing. My gripe and the loss of a star: I forgot to get my tea and dessert and didn't get reminded or asked. Granted, I'm better off without it and wanted a glass of milk at home anyway. read more

I visited Michael's Restaurant on January 5th, 2025, to celebrate my mom's birthday. She specifically requested Michael's because of fond memories of dining there years ago with our neighbors. Given the sentimental significance of the occasion and her choice of Michael's out of all the great spots in Astoria, we were disappointed by the experience. Drinks We ordered drinks: my mom chose an egg cream, while my boyfriend and I ordered Frappuccino's. Unfortunately, the egg cream tasted like watered-down milk with a hint of soda, and my mom's drink arrived late. As for the Frappuccino's, the waiter completely forgot about them until we reminded him. He eventually brought out one, which was sloppily presented, overflowing and spilling over the cup. The second frappuccino never arrived despite us following up multiple times with the waitstaff. By the time someone offered to make it, my boyfriend had nearly finished his meal and no longer wanted it. The restaurant wasn't busy, so the lack of attentiveness felt inexcusable. It seemed like other tables were prioritized over ours, which was frustrating for such an important occasion. Food The food was average diner fare with a touch of Greek fusion. I'd rate it 5/10 overall. The portions were generous, which was a plus. I ordered the Michael's Wrap, made with grilled chicken strips, bacon, melted Swiss cheese, Dijon mustard, crisp lettuce, tomato, and red onion. While the flavors were decent, the wrap wasn't assembled well, and everything kept falling apart. The sweet potato fries, however, were crispy and enjoyable. Service The poor service overshadowed everything. It was frustrating to be repeatedly forgotten, especially when celebrating my mom's birthday. Service can significantly influence the overall dining experience, and in this case, it detracted from the meal. My boyfriend is a chef who has worked in high-end restaurants, so he deeply understands how critical customer service is in the dining experience. According to him, even the best food cannot compensate for inattentive or careless service, and unfortunately, that's exactly what we experienced here. Towards the end, we chose not to leave a generous tip. While tipping is customary, it should reflect the level of service provided, and our experience didn't justify more. Unfortunately, we noticed the waiter glancing at the receipt, then chuckling off to the side, which we found unprofessional and dismissive. And yes, we noticed. Overall For such a special occasion, the experience at Michael's was disappointing. While the food was passable and portions generous, the poor service left a bad taste. I'm rating Michael's 2 stars out of 5, and we don't plan to return. read more

My 90 year old mother has been going here for years. It is her go to choice even when we try to take her somewhere new. Armando the waiter is very patient with her and friendly. They don't rush you and the food comes out timely and it's clearly fresh; nothing frozen. Her go to is the grilled cheese with off the bone ham and premium cheese with fresh French fries. I had the gyro platter. The amount of meat they sent barely fit in the pita. The salad had all fresh tomatoes, olives, lettuce, feta, red onions and dressing on the side. It was a massive salad. My mom loves their decaf coffee and says it's not easy to get decaf in most places. It's a dimly let diner that adds to the feeling of higher quality restaurant; not just a diner. read more

Order took a while but they didn't have corned beef for my Reuben. They called me and offered a substitute. I told them I didn't want any processed meat (Boars Head etc). About the food/service: DISGUSTING, I ordered 3 eggs w/ corn beef hash and it looked and tasted so terrible. NO ONE asked if I wanted a refill on my coffee, let me also mention the lady who was supposed to be my waitress NEVER CHECKED ON ME ONCE! Just avoid this place. Overall, just avoid this stupid place. It's always a problem ordering online. I ordered lemon chicken orzo soup through the phone without a problem and would get the order exactly how I want it. The past two times I order online, the same soup, it comes out wrong. They sent me a really thick broth paste. When I called to ask to corrected they put the blame on me. They were nice enough to resend it with CHICKEN BROTH and advised me to put that into the special instructions. TODAY i did exactly what they advised me to do. And QUITE LITERALLY sent me JUST CHICKEN BROTH. no chicken. No orzo. It'll make it easier for everyone to just input the chicken broth orzo option online. When I called to correct it, I was the one to blame yet again. I'm done ordering online from this place. You need to be very specific ( TO THE T) with these guys. read more

Great spot to just pop in for something quick! On an Astoria drink crawl with some friends and we stopped in to grab some food. Such amazing cheese fries! Ive eaten in here often over the years (grew up in the neihhborhood) and i usually enjoy it. Today i ordered via delivery.com. Ordered 2 eggs, turkey bacon and fries (easy enough) recieved corn beef hash, home fries and eggs. When i called the restaurant they argued with me stating they made the correct thing and refused to even accept a photo of the incorrect food. Worst customer service; so rude. Theres a whole host of restaurants in the area, i only ordered here bc of loyalty- never again. Since they werent taking the incorrect food back nor were they going to send me what i actually ordered; i tried the the corned beef hash and it didnt taste right- there was an awful aftertaste to it; almost like its spoiled? Hidden gem. Walk by it all the time but never think to stop i thought it was a regular restaurant and not a 24-7 diner. Only have had breakfast but it was great. Where does one have an awkward as hell hangover brunch? Why, at Michael's of course! It looks like a traditional diner. I was a bit skeptical especially after walking from Nova Scotia over to get here. The staff is friendly. There were copious amounts of black coffee (my fav) that got refilled promptly without my even having to ask but nudge and moan towards. An intense enough menu with so many options that I couldn't figure out what I wanted. I am possibly the most indecisive person on the face of the earth and several options are over-whelming. But I went with an omelet. Laura's Omelet: Ham, goat cheese, onions, peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes. You can't go wrong with eggs really. It was okay and comes with a side of toast and home fries. My dining companions got an Irish omelet: sausage, Irish bacon, onions and mushrooms. This one was a little messed up because they apparently cooked all the eggs on the same griddle and my goat cheese ran off into someone that's lactose intollerant's breakfast. Fail. Others got a Mexican burger with jalapenos, avocado and cheddar and a traditional egg and cheese sandwich. Everything was fine but not outstanding. Stephy at one point asked for hot sauce (her new obsession in life) and they gave her a cup of salsa. The tabasco sauce tasted a little vinegary and more watered down than usual that sat in the middle of the table. They do have a drink brunch special that includes I think 3 cocktails and a meal for $14. But I definitely was in no kind of state to consume anything of that nature. My only reason for not giving the full five stars was one chicken dish one family member had was disappointing.
