Oh my!! I don't even know where to start!! How about this..I've just had the best massage of my life!!!! No exaggeration, no cap, however you need me to say it I will. I have been looking for a place that does Ashiatsu massages for sooooo long, after extensive research come to find out I have this marvel in my vicinity. What a shame that I am only just coming across them now. My masseuse was efficient, targeted all my pressure points throughout my body, massaged me from head to toe and even when I thought it could not get any better, guess what?! IT DID!! I nearly fell asleep a few times and had to stop myself from drooling at how relaxed I was. She cracked me in places I've neverrrr been cracked. Anna was so sweet, gentle yet maintained the amount of pressure I asked. She constantly checked in to make sure I was fine and reminded me to let her know if at any point it was too hard. They're located on the 17th floor of the building and have a strict no shoes policy so be ready to take them off once you arrive on their floor. I had the 90 minute massage and when I tell you my massage did not feel rushed, there was no silly noisy timer, and the ambience was serene. They play classical music, which if it were up to me would instead be natureistic noise but hey, it did not sway or take away from the experience. I love that they also accept card, Venmo and Zelle but of course cash is always a plus. I have never had a massage where a therapist walks on your body to release tension..I experienced utter shock and pleasure at the same time as my therapist glided up and down my back. Anyway...the place is located in a small, dated office building on the 13th floor. The ambiance, well there isnt any. Its completely bare bones. They provide secure lockers and a valuables bag. You can shower and use the sauna before if you want. I didnt. The room was cozy- very comfortable but basic. The massage was outstanding. The pressure was just as I asked and the massage person was exceptionally friendly and very professional. I opted to him to walk on my back. Amazing. As tourists my partner and I had walked on average 7km per day for the last 6 days and were in desperate need of a massage. The ladies here were accommodating to our needs and we had a lovely 1hr massage in a couples room. We both enjoyed the back walking and the intensity of the use of the feet during the session. I was a bit disappointed as there are no oils involved and often find dry rubbing over a towel or sheet can irritate the skin. I also felt uncomfortable when pushed to tip 20% per person which would have taken our $80 per person massage to $96 person and when we then had to convert to AUD made this very expensive for 1hr. She did accept my 10% after I firmly stated that that was how much I was willing to pay. Would recommend for massage technique but possibly cheaper options available. read more

This place isn't the type that applies oil on you and casually presses on you, the lady actually dug deep into my muscles and stretched them a lot. TL;DR version: best massage I've ever had. My wife and I visited for 60-minute Shiatsu massages yesterday. I had tension everywhere (I run a lot and I sit at a desk all day) and my wife had an especially tight and sore back and shoulders. We've been to several different spas throughout the U.S. and while Salon de Tokyo is not big on decor and pampering and providing a wide range of services (no rose petal eyelid peel or whatever), it delivers exactly what it should if you have real pain and tension and you just need someone to do everything that needs to be done to relieve it. Both of us walked out feeling much better, if slightly sore (a result of deep massage), and we both woke up this morning without any tension or soreness of any kind. I highly recommend being walked on, as that was where I felt the biggest release of tension. It keeps getting better and better, let me tell you! I made an after work appointment for two massages, and it seemed like everyone else had the same idea as me! It was bustling, but I didn't mind; I knew I would have the sauna and then a cool shower prior to our appointment. Always so gracious, ever bowing, and their green tea is unsurpassed by any other I've had. Come to drink the week away and they will work the week out of you. It was my first time having a little Asian walk on my back; I'm sure this isn't an everyday thing for most of us, but it's certainly nothing to stick your nose up to. She seamlessly went from using her hands solely to then walking on my back! I have no idea when and how she made the transition without me knowing! She's a ninja! It's not completely silent; you hear a good amount outside the room, and there's no doors, but a sliding curtain. Not a place for those of us that like absolute privacy. Their overall catering attitudes are very generous and try to bend over backwards to please. If you do bend over backwards, just ask for the shiatsu and they'll make you as good as new! read more

The staff is excellent and work very hard to accommodate you, I've often called for very last minute appointments and they make the time. I've never been much for over-the-top luxury locations where I have to pay 50+ extra for the same quality service I would get elsewhere. So, if you just want a damn good massage with kind and skilled employees, with clean (and very generous) faculties, I would highly recommend Salon de Tokyo. The fact that it is so well-priced is one of the main reasons I will forever stick by Salon de Tokyo. A 60 minute deep tissue is 80$ and a 90 minute is 120$. The sauna and showers they offer is a plus. I've seen a few other less favorable reviews, and I've come to the conclusion that for Salon de Tokyo, communication is key. I recently came in after working out the day before (the first time I had worked out in a long time), so I was EXTREMELY sore the day after. Sore like I've never been before. When Chika (love you Chika) asked me if I had anything I needed help with, I told her all about the soreness all over my body, and boy did she deliver. She was very attentive to all of my knots and I felt like a new person afterwards. When she stepped on my back, it was not at all painful. I was pleased to hear many cracks as she skillfully stepped on top of me. In previous experiences, when I was too shy to express my needs, I've walked away disappointed with the fact that I could've had a better time during the massage. I personally enjoy deeper massages, so I struggled at first when trying to communicate a balance of having a deep tissue massage but not having it be too painful. I'm so happy I found this place on Yelp a few years ago. Been my go to massage place ever since. These ladies are no joke - they will take out every single knot out of your body. I was so surprise how much grip a feet can have - it's incredible how much craft there is. The prices are extremely reasonable. This isn't some Swedish relaxing massage - this is the type of massage you get when you are looking to take tightness out of your body so it might be painful at times but it's so worth at it at the end. The place is kept clean most of the time. They have 2 clean restrooms and 2 showers. The changing room has lockers and is small but good enough. This place is a lifeline to me! Been going there for about a little more than twenty years, and ever after I had my back injury in 2001, they became the only thing that really helped me. Based on the rave reviews by you wonderful Yelpers, I decided to surprise a friend. $70/ per person and $20/tip each massuse. Hard to beat those prices. OK guys, this is not a posh spa but it is the BEST MASSAGE EVER. Yes, there is a single coed locker room (the door locks) and you are walking around in a towel so it's maybe not for the modest. I went at about 11pm with a person who is quite familiar with my nudity, and no one else was there, so that was not a problem in the least. Clean facilities on the 13th floor of an office building and the four women there (2 masseuses, front desk and mystery lady who materialized as we were leaving) were so nice. They technically close at midnight but didn't rush us at all and even invited us to wait because "Erica would want to say bye". Here's the run down: -Enter, leave your shoes at the door and get your locker key -Hit the locker room and get nekkid! (u can take valuables with you in the provided pouch if you choose) -Shower (Nothing special. Generic soap/shampoo/conditioner but that's not what you're there for so who cares!) -Sauna (They have some magazines and glasses of water. There are some brushes in there that my friend didn't quite understand. "communal brushes?" Once again, not there for that) -Dry rub then fantastic feet or traditional massage I got a traditional deep tissue with Erica who massaged me from head to toe and into a state of lemon scented bliss. She also informed me that the kanji tattooed on my back doesn't say exactly what I thought it did. Close enough though! I've been to quite a few spots but this topped Oasis, Bliss and Lily & Raul for me! My friend was walked on by Amy and must have enjoyed it judging by how many times he thanked us both! Apparently, it did wonders for an old shoulder injury and he's experiencing an increased range of motion. I used to go here a lot when I worked nearby. Now that it's kind of a trek, I don't go so much. A visit tonight, 4 or so years later, I realize I have missed these ladies. The massages aren't the kind that make you oooh and aahh with pleasure. They actually kind of hurt. But the aches and pains in your body that have been the result of many weeks/months/years of abuse - they destroy 'em with brute force. Then the next day, you don't hurt so bad. And it's awesome. They'll walk on your back too if you like. Which is fantastic. Big massive points for the fact that their English skills are really quite good and you can pretty much tell them exactly what you want worked on, how much pressure, etc. I love the pre-massage ritual of sauna then shower, then you get massaged while your muscles are all warm and loose. Low frills and a bit outdated. Works for me since I'm a low frills type of person although I do enjoy swanky atmosphere sometimes, but that usually requires appointments and more $. Salon de Tokyo is a real find. The last time someone walked over me like that, I was at a holiday party with my extended family. The difference: I paid for it and I can't wait to go back for more at Salon de Tokyo. Seriously though, I felt pretty confident from the other reviews that this would be a positive experience. Having high expectations exceeded was a pleasant surprise. We arrived at an officy-looking building. We entered this very quiet, very tucked away facility and were met with typical Japanese courtesy (Complete with bowing). Then we were shown the changing room and led to our individual rooms. While Mozart played softly in the background, I laid down on a table and my masseuse covered me with a sheet. She started by simply massaging with her hands, always asking if there was an area that needed special attention or if the pressure was alright. Eventually she started walking on me and massaging with her feet which at times was something akin to rolfing. All the time, she remembered the areas that were extra sensitive or those that required special attention. 3/4s of the way through, she notified me that since my back needed so much attention, she would have to give me a shorter massage on the other side. I must have mumbled something that resembled "That's ok." At the end of the hour, I had experienced the beautiful pain of authentic shiatsu (for the very first but, not the last time). I did not want to get up off that bed. At $70/hr this is a steal. Following Jeff C.'s advice, I did tip $20. It was completely worth it. Go when you can use the sauna. I did not and was totally dehydrated after. Without exaggeration, this was one of the three best massages I've ever had. read more

This place is a great value, but I noticed a lot of bitterness from the other clients. If you expect a western style spa experience, you may be disappointed as they have very limited space and are not separated by gender. Showers, lockers, w/c and the dry sauna are well maintained and peaceful, but several guests seemed frustrated at having to be in a towel around strangers of the opposite sex. These people take shiatsu to any level you like, so be careful what you tell them. I was under the impression that shiatsu had to be a little gentle, so I told them to let me have it. Most other places will charge more for deep tissue massages. The experience taught me to go here for a strong shiatsu session instead - and since they know how to use their feet it's easy for the little ladies to pulverize any muscle/rearrange your skeleton. Wonderful feeling, but I was actually worried about shoulder injury or breaking a rib. If you aren't a masochist or athlete, I recommend asking for a light touch. Key to keep in mind though is the high quality of the massage and the convenient hours & location. Given those things, the prices are very reasonable. Tipping is not customary in Japan, so they really appreciate it sincerely here. read more

I'm used to deep massages. This is not because I prefer them. It is because I am cheap and always go to Asian places where there is the typical Asian mentality of "No pain, no gain." So I'm used to the pain and I can handle it. My masseuse, though, seemed a little afraid of hurting me. I told her that my problem areas were my shoulders but she couldn't find a knot. I know they exist. I feeeeeeeeel them. After she was done, I got up and felt a crick in my neck. *POP* I didn't feel sore there. I felt tense. There is no background music & the sliding doors don't close all the way, so you can hear all conversation that goes on in the hallway & in the front area. There is a sauna so that is a step up for me, but I'd rather trade that in for a refreshing massage that actually loosens me up. read more

Akiyo is amazing! I store a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders and love a deep massage, though I often feel like it's just scratching the surface. I felt revived and refreshed for days after my ashiastu massage. This place is clean and no frills. You come for the service and it will rock your world from head-to-toe. I frequent different spas ranging from high and low which include the Peninsula, Great Jones, Bliss, Mezzanine, Town House and your local nail salon for an emergency rub down. This was a fantastic massage. Ana has feet that felt like fingers. This is absolutely a place where you go to get a massage with therapeutic healing and pressure to the max. I suspect they can do it more gently (something I would not want), but you also lose the purpose of the massage, which is to provide healing value. This is a practice that clearly takes time to master and I felt consistent with the NYMag review in that it was really an experience. Don't expect much in terms of interior.
