What makes a good company? One that can offer stellar customer service, understand the dire need…read moreof its customers and respond in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, none of this can be said for Access Elevators. My church was deemed an essential service during the pandemic as we provide a free community meal. We have been serving anyone who needs a free meal for well over ten years and in a normal time we would serve people in what we call our "Great Hall". Several years ago, we installed a small elevator recommended by a company called Victory Lifts and entered into a maintenance agreement. Victory Lifts was purchased by Access Elevators and communication began to fail at that point. July 4, 2020 is the date the saga begins. The elevator stopped working which meant that the crew of volunteers, most who are over 70 years of age, had to spend hours carrying stuff up and down stairs to serve the people who were coming to our doors. We had to shift from serving people inside to take-out only; due to the pandemic (Covid-19). That's 21 steps one way, many, many times during the morning and afternoon. July 7, 2020 Access was contacted and they deemed it necessary to enter into a new maintenance contract with them for a total of $1200.00. They agreement was approved, executed and then we were able to get a scheduled date of repair - July 15, 2020. July 15, 2020 the repairman arrived, did some regular maintenance and showed our rector how to do a hard reset in case it failed again. Well, it did fail again - on that very same day!!! July 16, 2020 Access was called and service was scheduled for another 8 days out - July 24th. The repairman came back and said that the elevator had been considered fixed because the code was correct when he left. Is that kind of like unplugging the battery to make the check engine light go off? One wonders. The repairman said the elevator had failed and it would need parts. Access Elevator's office notified the church on July 21st that they had found the part, the 'actual' repair bill would be $919.75 and it must be prepaid before they would order the part and install it. We paid for this on July 29, 2020. August 4, 2020, the church was notified that the part had arrived and a new repair date was scheduled for August 12th between 9am and 12pm. At 12:15pm Access Elevator was called and we were informed that although they ordered the part when preparing to depart they discovered it was the wrong one - right!!!! The company not only didn't notify us immediately of the error but refused to overnight the part. They rescheduled the new repair date for August 18th. We were told that we were rude for asking them to try and speed up the process, apparently six-weeks is fast in the elevator business. August 18th came and no repairman and when Access was contacted we were told that a balance of $257.00 must be paid for prior to repairs commencing. Again, we had to make contact because they can't seem to reach out to their customers and keep them informed. We reluctantly pulled out the Visa card again and paid the bill. The technician came out at 4:15pm and spent 30 minutes here working on the elevator. Two test trips were made to see if it worked and we thought the saga was over. The next day; August 19, 2020 it was back to no service. Another call and another part that was needed to the tune of $629.36 with a deposit of $315 before ordering or scheduling a work date. It was again reluctantly paid and we are waiting - again and still. September 1, 2020 Access as again out to make what we had hoped for the final repair. The fix lasted for approximately 30 minutes after the technician departed. If you made it this far and your reaction is why didn't they just call someone else - its because there is no other someone else. We are stuck - just like our elevator. So here is our review - as many thumbs down as you can give. So, the question is what does numerous phone calls and $1,549.75 get you? Not a fixed elevator!!!!
