Oh snap, O-TOP is good! Luckily found parking easily in the small lot at 12p on a Friday. Got the Panang Curry with Assorted Seafood. Service was friendly, atmosphere was casual, and the best part- my food was delish! I coulda eaten twice as much rice with my curry since there was half of the broth left at the end of my meal. I don't eat Thai often, so I can't say if this is Americanized or Authentic, but I thought the spicy to sweet ratio was good and the seafood tasted fresh. Came here for dinner on a Friday night and it was empty. Service was very nice and attentive. We ordered the garlic beef, spicy seafood soup and shrimp chow mein. My hubby loved the soup bc it was actually spicy. The broth had very good flavor to it as well. Garlic beef was very yummy and so was the chow mein. Not the best. Not the worst either. This local eatery is just minutes away from my home. I like to contribute to local businesses so this place is on my list for regular activity. I'm just not that impressed though. I can't help but feeling like I wasted money when I finish my plate. I typically order the Pad See Ew and Papaya Salad. The noodles are often dry, with little egg and hardly any tofu. The Papaya salad is hot. I mean ridiculously spicy. I love spice. I drink bottles of Tapatio when I eat mexican food but this spice is too much. I love it though but be forewarned. There are better places to eat. So I hear. I just haven't found them yet. Southbay's Thai selection has left me very disappointed. Am I the only one? Love the ladies that run this place though. They definitely are not from around here. I guess the food here is good for Americans. Being an American of part Thai heritage, I know my food and I've definitely had better. Shrimp Tempura is breaded American shrimp that comes straight from a frozen package. Definitely NOT JAPANESE! Pad Thai is good, though on the peppery side. I've eaten this several times. Rad Nah is good, but also on the peppery side. Pad See Ew is okay. It tastes peppery, too. Spicy Chicken Cassanut (?) was the right amount of spiciness, but tasted a lot like pepper. (Seeing a pattern yet?) Thai Tea is sweet and tasty. Nothing too special about it here. The lunch special has a generous amount of food for just 6 bucks. The salad has a tasty dressing. I'd skip the fried rice and wontons, but for the sake of not wasting food and to curb my hunger, I eat them anyway. I'm generally not a big fan of wontons, though. The fried rice is plain and also tastes like pepper, by the way. The people who run this place are sweet. They don't talk much because they don't speak much English, but they still provide excellent service! If you like the flavor of pepper, you'll love this place. If you want more variation of flavors that Thai food can give you, I would suggest going elsewhere. Side note: I once came here and spoke Thai. Our waitress seemed really happy about this and wanted to stay with me to show off pictures of her son and talk (*cough* brag *cough*) about him. Great food. Except when you order dishes with chicken, I didn't know you had to specify ground chicken or regular chicken. I have heard of ground turkey. But not ground chicken. Authentic home cooked meals! The silverware provided will remind you of your parents' house as you were growing up. I come here quite often because of their lunch specials being about $7 for your Thai fix- I get Pad See Ew, a fried wonton, egg roll, side of fried rice and salad. You can't beat the price but you have to keep that in mind with the food. It's good and yummy, it's just not the best you've had. Works perfectly for my co-workers and I, we order quite often since they also deliver for orders over $15. This is the equivalent of a fast food Thai place. Ordered the BBQ combo the ribs had more fat than meat on the bones the chicken didn't taste done and the shrimp fried rice wasn't really shrimp fried rice it had 2 shrimp over a bed of rice. Pretty surprisingly DELICIOUS... looked it up to try a new spot and I gotta tell you this nice hole in the wall type joint was pretty good. The service was nice the lady was polite and the tai tea is BOMB....had the sea food soup it was yum... had the yum sum sea soup and that was yummy too.
