Tried out Pho Consommé. To start off, the atmosphere wasn't the most pleasant it felt a bit cluttered and not the most inviting from a customer's point of view. Service was pretty bland, like the staff was just there because they had to be. Food did come out fast, about 4 minutes after ordering. I tried their #8 (steak flank pho). The broth was good and not sweet, which I liked. The noodles were a little too chewy for my liking, but their in house sriracha was actually really good. A few of the lowlights of the dish include: - mushy broken rice that stuck together in clumps and was clearly cooked with way too much water - mind-blowingly dry pork chop that was devoid of flavor borderline inedible - nondescript fish sauce that was somehow not salty enough and way too sweet; the sauce notably had no garlic or chili - the pork skin accompaniment was not pork skin--but rather, some form of thinly chopped pork belly of a very odd consistency - the beancurd wrapped shrimp cake had an incredibly off-putting mushy consistency and flavor A Vietnamese restaurant of this quality (or lack thereof) may survive in the South Bay, but anywhere else (SGV or, god forbid, Westminster) and it'd be out of business within a week. We walked in to this other place, which I feel bad mentioning, and since I didn't eat there I will not name it. That place was dark, dingy, and it smelled like an old mop. Because of my experience today, it's inspired me to write an updated review! I love this place! It is clean, smells delicious as soon as you walk through the door. Their tables, condiment bottles, and areas are all so clean. The restaurant is open, and airy and it just feels good to eat there. The service is always friendly and we are always seated right away. We usually get the pho combo that has all different types of meat. Delicious!!!!!! Oh and I had an iced coffee today that had some condensed milk. Delicious and strong! The servers are very quick to get you what you ask. Food is good. My favorite thing to get is this chopped fried fish with basil sauce, rice and pickled vegetables.
