My 95 year old mother who weighs 115 lbs was given 10 mg of Haldol/Haloperidol nightly for 10 of…read moreher 13 nights in her second stay at DaySpring in Fairborn, supposedly "for agitation". She was admitted on Wed 5/3/23 and the drug was started on Friday 5/5/23 without my (POA) knowledge or consent. Haldol is an antipsychotic drug typically used for patients with schizophrenia and carries an FDA black box label that its use for elderly with dementia increases the risk of death. Mom has never exhibited agitation. Our first care conference was on Monday 5/8/23 and NOTHING was mentioned about mom's agitation nor the drug being prescribed. It took me 2 days to calm down enough to call the. Dir of Nursing (DON). We played phone tag for days and even though I told her in a voice mail I was calling about the Haldol, when we finally connected she acted like she had no clue why I was calling. Mom's chart only reflected "for agitation" so she said she needed to talk to the Floor Nurse to do some research and would call me back in the afternoon. Instead she called my sister, stating I was calling with questions but my sister was listed as the primary contact. Yet, as health care Power of Attorney, I am the one that filled out all of the admission forms, including the DNR, for this stay and her previous one in January. She told my sister that mom was exhibiting behavior that we have never witnessed and is completely & totally out of character for mom. Neither one of us believe her, but I'm waiting to talk to the DON later today to hear it first hand. Here's the thing - even IF mom was exhibiting the behavior she described, we were never informed and never consented to the drug. And the dose is extreme for a woman her size. I had reservations after the first stay about sending mom back to DaySpring this time and I can tell you, we will NEVER use a CareSpring location anywhere ever again.

My Dad had a bed sore so big it was almost to the bone I still have the pictures. Sent my Dad to a Dr appointment in October in a t shirt and pajama bottoms with no coat or blanket. He was dirty and unshaven. I could go on and on. Don't send your loved one there they don't give a shit!

This facility is a better option than most when you have a family member that needs dialysis…read more However like most places they are under staffed and spread out thinly. My mother went to Arbors last Friday. She had a horrible bedsore on her bottom that required a lot of monitoring and care. One time she indicated needing to go to the bathroom. We pushed the call button and nobody came. After a half hour I went to the nurses station and said my mom needed to go to the bathroom. My mom was non mobile so needed assistance. The nurse said it would be a few minutes. After 20 minutes I went back up and saw an aide. I said my mom needs the bathroom. They did come to her room quickly but she already went in the bed. With this bedsore the last thing she needed was to be laying in urine or fecal matter. The next day when we saw her she had a bad cough that sounded like pneumonia. They said they ordered a chest X-Ray and it would be done within 4 hours. By the time we left it hadn't been done. The next day they gave her the chest X-ray and it came back negative. They brought her to dialysis and during dialysis her blood pressure dropped significantly and she was sent to the hospital where it was determined she did in fact have pneumonia. So while my mom wasn't there a long time I definitely saw issues with the staffing and response time. Unfortunately while at the hospital my mom went into sepsis shock and passed away. Today we went to the to Arbors to pick up her belongings. While there in her wing we saw no employees. She had a special blanket that disappeared after her first night that was nowhere to be found. While Arbors of Milford was not the worst facility however all of these facilities have their problems and if nursing care can be avoided I would recommend that. Keep your loved one home as long as you can because once they go into a facility they may not live much longer.

We do not need to be afraid of losing our home or our apartment due to loss of wages or benefits. We have 3 meals a day whether we like them or not. A nurse brings our meds. And we have someone get coffee, ice and pull-ups. (We need very little care ). All of our medical needs are taken care of by our nurse practitioner Alex ... our psych needs too. To sum it up... We are greatful to be able to be here at the Arbors. We have nothing to be concerned with except the day to day enjoyments... knowing we are safe and cared for. Thanks for letting me write this.
