Everyone likes otto's. I especially enjoy there happy hour special (if you don't know what it is, investigate for yourself). The scallion, bacon, and mashed potato slice tastes like a baked potato, super impressive. A fave of ours is the ricotta and mushroom. Would recommend to anyone! read more

It's okay. Haven't had it in a while. But it's been burnt/over cooked a lot. A half cheese half pepperoni pizza was too much to ask for. I think it used to be better, but since they have made a name for themselves they don't care as much, for to go that is anyway. But the different varieties and creativeness of styles of pizzas is great.. And eating in has always been a good experience. I just feel they are inconsistent, and if they wanna be more than just a hippie version of Bills Pizza they need to care more. read more

Whafts of charred crisp crust and salty melty cheese billowed onto Congress Street while Dave and I were en route to Port City Music Hall from dinner. And then when we saw a bar on the Otto side of the venue, we were hooked! We only meant to have a beer. But the delicious smells and unique menu won us over and we shared a slice of cheese. The crust was charred just-so. And the cheese was laid on thick (mozz) but sprinkled with flecks of asiago (cha-ching!!) The venue, so cute and tiny. I love it. And clearly peeps love it too. So much, that they've expanded to Boston after just a year in service. You go, Otto! Fill that small space that was probably someone's bathroom not so long ago. And then expand it and serve us beer. Sweet. But I'm torn... because Dave and I went back the next morning and the crust. was. different!! Chewy... not crisp. I will pretend that the goodness of the crust must come with oven heating time. So by the end of the night, that thing is roaring!! But in the morning...well...not so much. Must try again. I've had OTTO Pizza in Boston and honestly, I wasn't impressed. Frankly speaking, I wondered why they even bothered exporting the brand from Portland. After experiencing true OTTO Pizza, I fully understand. These pizzas are unique and quite good. The slices you order can be a bit less fresh as expected, but are otherwise very tasty. I only wish you could order split pizzas. Also, we walked into the bar section of the restaurant and I really do wish the bartender clarified that the restaurant section was next door. I'm going to preface this review by saying this is completely about the experience, not the food. My fiancé and I go to Otto all the time, and love the food. However, today we were seated and then forgotten about for 20 minutes. When we made eye contact and motioned to our server, he never came over. After twenty minutes without even water, we got up to leave. As we got up, he spotted us leaving and did nothing to rectify his mistake. I've eaten Otto's pizza at LEAST 6 or 7 times, and every single time has been amazing. I've gotten their pizza to go, had pizza delivered, and eaten inside the restaurant. Cons: most flavorless, watery, completely unappetizing pizza I've ever eaten in my life (except maybe a doughy, half-cooked plasticy cheese one in Madrid, Spain). I got the spinach, white bean, and roasted garlic, and added roasted cauliflower. Nothing was seasoned... Not even the marinara. Even the garlic somehow managed to be tasteless, like they boiled it or something. Otto's from the outside looks like a small cute boutique type eatery. We got there around midnight, and a line had started to form out the door behind us. There's not much room inside, so I saw many people take their pizzas to go/eat outside. (I do believe there is a separate room during certain hours that is open where you can sit and eat.) With about 10+ different types of pizza on the menu and about 6-7 fresh and ready to choose from, it was hard to decide! There were so many interesting variations ranging from three cheese tortellini, butternut squash, ricotta & cranberry (which I heard tastes like Thanksgiving!?) and pulled pork & mango to name a few, each at $3.50 a slice. Had the Mashed Potato pizza and it was absolutely DELICIOUS. The crust was thin and crusty. The toppings of potatoes, scallions and bacon complimented each other perfectly. One wasn't too overpowering than the next. Assuming the toppings, I thought there would be a bit of oil on there... but NOT. AT. ALL and I was so surprised by that! Otto's has definitely raised and surpassed my standard of pizza and I would totally go there every week if we had one closer than it's sister chain in Boston. read more

We shared two small pizzas -a butternut squash, ricotta and cranberry pizza (with white sauce) and a tortellini pizza with red sauce. Both were tasty but the butternut squash was the clear winner. You heard it right -- it's hard to put into words just how great that is! Otto has superb pizza. It is flat and can be folded, not too greasy, and the sauce is delicious. Great place to stop in to get a quick slice for lunch or for your pizza cravings later at night (this is Maine, so 10pm slices are considered late night food). The guy at the counter was very friendly. They have many different varieties of pizza, and they change all the time. I went with cheese and it was great-- the dough and the sauce compliment each other perfectly. It's also in a great location. Yum, just yum. I knew I was going to be in Portland last Sunday, so I did some research on yelp. Otto had such great reviews that I had to try it. I was not disappointed! My bf and I ordered slices of the mashed potato, bacon and scallion in Otto then walked into Enzo (it's the same doorway.) There we ordered beer and waited while the pizza was heated. Been coming here for years. I highly recommend the mashed potato pizza and anything they've got with ricotta cheese. Ottos and Portland Pie make the best pizzas in town. If you want the intricate delicatessen slice with unique toppings and new flavors, try Ottos. If you want the meaty, tasty, flavored crust, go to Portland Pie. Can't go wrong with either of these two joints. Ottos has done incredibly well in Portland and I wish them further luck as they expand out of the state. The establishment was small on the inside but for a late lunch (1pm) there wasn't anyone else in there. There's a bar with some nice beers, and they have a good pizza selection, either by the slice or by the pie. I got the pulled pork and mango slice and a mashed potato, bacon, scallion slice. They were both delicious, I liked the potato one a little better because those ingredients were a little more unusual, you can put pulled pork on just about anything and it will taste good. My only issue with the pulled pork was that I would have liked a little more pork on the pizza, it seemed a bit skimpy. The pizza was a bit on the cooler side of warm but I liked this better because I usually end up getting pizzas that are too hot to eat. The dough was thin and sturdy, not soggy or greasy at all. I've been to Otto's at least 3 times and figured it was just like any other place to get pizza when inebriated....lines out the door, decent pizza, nothin special. My last visit changed my mind. I went on a Thursday night at about 10...it wasn't crowded or loud. I got a slice with chicken and basil while my friend got a slice with butternut squash, cranberries and ricotta. We sat in the adjoining restaurant which was cozy and perfect. Cute small bar, clean, nice decor. My slice could have used a little bit more chicken but my friend's slice was out of this world. Otto's USED TO BE the best pizza in Portland. Then for some reason, they started pouring half a jar of black pepper on every pie - now all you taste in every slice is a mouthful of black pepper. If they're even using any other spices any more, you can't taste them. Forget about tasting the tomato or the cheese - it's just black pepper pie. I've gone back multiple times, hoping they'd gone back to their old way of making their pizzas, but alas, it appears that Otto's is now just staffed by people who think black pepper is the only spice out there and every pie needs to be smothered in it. Not to sound snobby or anything but I think New Yorkers have a pretty high standard of pizzas because the market is pretty saturated with decent to good pizzas. With that being said, Portland's Otto Pizza definitely gets a thumbs up from me as a New Yorker. I thought it was unique how Otto served some interesting pizza choices.
