I have had the most amazing experience with OBF Gig Harbor for my dog and my friend's dog. They are flexible, have a lot of doggie knowledge and skills, provide dog cam to watch your dog, and do all this for a reasonable price. Daycare hours are convenient for most work schedules. Absolutely love this place! They take great care of our puppy and they are constantly cleaning to ensure a clean environment for the dogs.

This facility is understaffed and has too many dogs at any one time. There is little positive stimulus, and the dogs are left to their own devices. The Purdy location has a small area that is all concrete where the dogs can go to on their own. The Gig Harbor location has a 'yard' where the dogs are taken to exercise. Not every dog is taken every day, it is the lucky ones who manage to get outside for something other than potty. There have been frequent times in the past couple of years where one location was shut down, and they funneled the dogs into the other location. I wanted to like this place, but the lack of staffing and the high number of dogs is not a productive environment. The dogs need positive stimulation, outdoor time, and better staffing. When I was picking up my dog, someone came in to get theirs, and the staff had no idea which dog it was or where it was. I am currently looking for a day care that deserves to have my dog be part of their program! read more

We have been going to Our Best Friend for two years and every employee has been nothing but professional, respectful, caring, friendly and loving toward our dog. First, to say I was disappointed is an understatement. A few weeks ago, I took a looked at the website. I liked it, so I email them from their website informing them of my interest. I requested information and a tour of the facility; no response. So I dropped in today (2 weeks later) and asked for some information and a tour. The staff person went to get the manager; unfortunately, I could hear the conversation between the two; the manager asked if I had an appointment and if not scheduled one for tomorrow it was a few other unnecessary things said but oh well. The staff person returned to relay message; I informed her that I tried contacting them for an appointment unsuccessful and I wasn't interested in returning the next day. I thanked her and then left. I'm happy to know that this is not the place for my fur-baby... so a big thanks to the oh-so busy manager! read more

Not what we expected. We were extremely surprised with the cost. For 2 small dogs for 2 3/4 days it was $300. We have done doggie boarding before and it was not quite this much. We also expected some updates either on a daily basis or at least when we picked them up and we were given nothing. We understand that the woman who checked us out when we picked them up was not who was with them for their entire stay, but a report card or something would have been awesome to hear about after not seeing our dogs for 2 days and since it was also their first time staying here. **Watch the cameras** I debated on posting a review however I feel it's important for other dog owners to know this facility uses fear based training tactics. I only used this facility 4 times. Each time my dog didn't want to go back with any of the employees. I should have known. On the last day he was there, by watching their cameras, I witnessed workers standing in the room and not engaging with the dogs. I witnessed an employee scolding two dogs, one of which was mine, telling them to get away while being affectionate towards other dogs. The final straw was when I watched an employee corner my dog for 30-40 min against a wall, refusing to allow him to move. She stood only a few inches away and any time he moved she made him sit and not move. When I called they told me it was their training tactic. They told me they were trying to calm him down so he wouldn't bark. I told them my dog appeared stressed and he barks when he is stressed. I asked why if they were trying to calm him down would they not move him to another room or a kennel. They again told me they were training him and until they saw a calming behavior they were going to make him stay there. When I asked about the length of time they had him against the wall they again said it was about being 1% ahead of the dog. I was told my dog barked excessively and when I asked why I was not told this before he didn't have an answer. The employee was rude, dismissive and sounded annoyed that I had called. It wasn't until he was picked up did they let him leave the wall. My dog was visibly stressed when he was picked up. When I called that Monday and spoke to a manager she told me again this was one of their training tactics. The manager told me when dogs run too fast it stresses out other dogs and if they bark too much it stresses out the other dogs so this is what they do to break their bad behavior. I voiced my concern about the length of time and questioned whether this type of training is even effective. The manager assured me their professional trainer also uses this method and had taught their employees. When I asked why I was not told my dog had a barking problem she didn't have an answer. The manager assured me she would review the tapes to ensure their employee was acting appropriately and would get back to me. I provided her with the date and time frame. I never heard back. I have not called to follow up as it doesn't matter. My dog will never be going back and I would never recommend this facility to anyone. I have checked in with other trainers and facilities and ALL have said that length of time was excessive and not effective after a certain point. Please beware if you bring your dog to this facility. Question why your dog may not want to go and WATCH the cameras. read more

These guys are right down the street from us, so we were very happy when our vet recommended them when we asked about kennels. We stopped by and they were great about giving us a tour and answering all questions. Well, our dog just got back from staying for 5 days and 4 nights, and he seemed to enjoy it. The staff are all very polite and all of them just really seem to love dogs. When the place is full it can be a bit chaotic, so I admire the way they keep their spirits up. Prices are a bit higher than some other places, but they have really good hours for day visits, and when I got delayed at work they were willing to let me pick up the dog as late as 11. I really appreciated that level of customer care. We have been nothing but impressed and pleased, and we will be going back. read more

We're so lucky to have them just down the street from where we live. They make taking care of your pets their top priority. From always being greeted with a smile and a pet for the dog to picking up a happy puppy, you know they're having a great time! They have very flexible hours that make it easy to fit them into your day. They are great to watch the dog for a day or for your entire vacation. You know they stand behind their services because their own dogs hang out there with them. I love that when we went on a tour, all of the dogs were just chilling on a few beds piled together. The staff also make an effort that your dog is with the group that fits him best, even if a little dog is running with the big dogs. They just look happy at the end of the day. read more

i was pleased to be able to get my very matted dog in the day I called. The groomer was very friendly and gave me back a cute, clean little mutt. She had had to take Oreo down about as short as she could, to get all the mats, but she gave her an adorable cut around the face and ears and left her lovely bushy tail looking great. I just started bringing my two dogs there last week. So far I am happy with what they provide. My older dog has some anxiety issues and they were more than happy to have her come on over. She has shown some improvement already just in the few days that she has been there. I will report back in a few more weeks to let you know how well she has done. I do love the fact that they can take your dog on short notice and are very accomodating. I have not done grooming because I have two short haired dogs that we can handle on our own. If you have a dog at home that is a little bored and needs someone to play with, you should try out doggie daycare. I was a skeptic in the beginning too! read more

Our little ones love it here .. they can't wait to arrive and once there, they can't get out of the car fast enough to get thru the doors and to the back. They are usually in the little dog room but sometimes go into the big dog room as they love being with the bigger dogs. When they stay over night they love running down the halls and between the rooms, which they usually let them do in the evenings. It's also nice that we can check in on them with the room cameras on our phones when we're out and about to make sure they're having fun. We have been taking them here since they were about 6 months old and only about 4 & 6 pounds. We were concerned because of their size, both with the other dogs and because they could sneak thru baby gates as they are "runners", however, the staff has always watched them and have been cautious of it. They are in closed half door rooms during the day and then in a back sleep room with a staff member at night so we haven't had any problems. Would recommend read more

My dog just love come here she being here when she only 10 mo old the staff there is really nice never an a problem there until just now, well with the new manager there, I called to talk to manager to se why my dog couldn't come back to daycare she told me that she need a full spay, so asked why a full spay she shot back at me saying the hormones, I tried to explain to her at I was going partial spay an why she just cut me an saying there policy require a full spay she wouldn't even listen me why I wanted partial spay nor would she explain why I couldn't do a partial spay,I had learn why from someone else that works there which I don't think it's right for the manager should had explain why not anyone else read more

We brought our bichon frise in to be groomed. My wife showed up 6 minutes late because she wasn't sure which building it was in and went into the wrong complex. The lady scolded my wife for being late saying that it messes up the whole day (this was 6 minutes not 30). She took our dog and stormed off. My wife went to pick up our dog and she had been given a buzz cut. Seriously... there was no grooming at all. I could have bought a pair of shears and done it myself. There was also an employee in the back room just screaming at a dog. Our dog was shaking and gagging for the next 24 hours. This company must realize that these are not stupid animals. They are loving family members. Needless to say we will NEVER go back! I guess I should have known why they were the only ones in town who could groom our dog with such short notice. read more

I have a pug and I travel alot so ive been looking for boarding. I have toured this place twice. The first time last year I was pretty impressed. This time recently not so much. The employees seen pretty attentive to the dogs needs. The owner seemed kind of lets say "blonde" but everyone else there seemed great. I know its a dog daycare but it does smell pretty bad. when I toured it last year I would have tried the grooming but now I dont think so. They seem to do a good job but now there are chemicals that you can plainly see in the grooming room that are within dogs reach. Also the grooming room is very crowded. Dont know how the poor girl could get any work done with so little room. I do like the hours they are available though. All in all I will keep looking but they will be my 2nd choice. read more

Took my bishon in to be groomed on recommendation of a friend. They were nice and efficient; from there on the visit was a disaster! I asked them to trim length to half of existing length and maintain a bishon cut. When I picked my dog up he was shaved to the point I could see his pink skin everywhere. More disturbing, he had three knicks that had bled, and he had a schnauzer cut...his bishon head was gone and he had a mustache! He was really not attractive, poor puppy! I was stunned, so I paid and got out as fast as I could. Recently telling this story to a friend, she told me she also had the same experience, knicks and all! Yikes, beware doggies! read more

Excellent Doggie Day Care as well as overnight care. Clean and sanitary facility with knowledgeable staff with lots of helpful training tips.
