While down in Nashville my mom has been trying for over a year to eat here. Well, yesterday was the day!! It's located in the heart of Nashville. Once you step inside the door and head down the stairs you will see a huge Bobby Knight mural. I've seen the sign for this place over the years but never realized it was Bobby Knight and Indiana Basketball themed. It's awesome!!! Bobby Knight would come here and eat as he didn't live far from here. I never knew Bobby Knight played for Ohio State! They have a picture of him in his OSU jersey. Know that this place isn't that big but it's worth the visit. The food was so good!! Service was good also! Ambiance was what Hoosier Hysteria is all about. We dined here during Covid. If you're an IU/Bobby Knight fan, this is your place! I had the vegan cauliflower and bean soup, which was quite tasty. This is the "sandwich place" - I would love to see them add a vegetarian sandwich to their menu. But this soup was quite good and filling! My companion had the chicken salad sandwich, served on grilled wheat bread. The chicken salad was yummy, it tasted like it was made with fresh white meat. The sandwich was paired with a side salad, especially nice size and homemade dressing too! We like supporting local places, and this one is a winner. (Go, Big Red!) read more

Food was ok, i had a black and bleu burger, nothing that i would go out of my way for but still had good flavor. Service was fine, just everything is such a weird price structure. Drinks come in cans with ice and no free refills. I do still love all the old IU stuff on the walls from the original owners though! It may not look like much and isn't flashy or fancy - the mashup of IU (specifically Bobby Knight era IU) memorabilia makes it clear it's not trying to be either of those things. But it's darn good food. For such a small place, I thought the prices were a little steep at first -- until the food came out. These are some pretty hefty portions, so the price is absolutely justified. Also an interesting little tidbit - they have both Coke and Pepsi products - but they just bring out a can and a cup of ice. Wasn't expecting that. Not necessarily a downside, but if you're expecting a true fountain drink with refills, you may be surprised. (I didn't drink enough to get a refill, so not sure if that's just the price of another drink, but I'd assume it is so you may ration that out if you're thirsty.) I'm struggling because I think the owner and family want to continue the tradition of this fun, hole in the wall restaurant, but the rigid rules and weird payment structure take any fun and nostalgia out of the visit. I immediately noticed the sign on the door warning customers that the restaurant cannot accommodate parties over six. This is understandable to a point, most of the seating in this small space is built-in booths for four. There are some tables that could be moved together. When I made a comment to my family of five about not being able to eat there with the grandparents, the owner's daughter (the one expediting, waitressing, checking customers out) overheard and said they tell bigger parties to go someplace else because the cannot move tables together. Groups can be split up into separate tables but absolutely no moving tables together. The menu has your standard sandwich shop fare, however the kids menu is really small with no sandwiches. $8 for either a 5 piece mini corn dog entree or a hot dog (the same adult size (jumbo) hot dog), with either fries, applesauce, or Mac and cheese. The portions are huge, which is great for adults but absolutely intimidating for kids. Drinks are not included. Let's talk about drinks. The pricing is so bizarre. Soda (unrefrigerated cans) are $2, "refills" are $1. Lemonade is $3.25 with 1 free refill. Unsweet iced tea is $2.25 with unlimited free refills. I didn't catch the cost of the lemonade so essentially we paid $11.25 each for our three kids meals, that they didn't eat. Overhearing what other people were ordering, I caught on that each ingredient is nickel and dimed. Ghost pepper cheese will cost you .50 cents more. Tomatoes cost .25 cents per slice. I get a la carte pricing but the sandwiches are already priced pretty high. There's one cook in the back and so more rules apply. No carry out on the weekends, no ordering appetizers separately from ordering your main meal, limited party sizes. It's just off-putting to hear/read so many rules even before ordering. The owner's daughter was doing a great job keeping up with the tables, the place was clean, food was coming out piping hot and pretty quickly. But after paying $71.00 + 20% tip for 3 "kids meals" and two adult meals, we'll probably take our business elsewhere next time. read more

Bait and switch on a Memorial Day breakfast. I ride a motorcycle through Nashville about 4 times a week. I went for a ride in brown county and was starving. I parked on Main Street and was checking out who was open and noticed this joint was. Walked in and as the waitress /owner ran by I asked if breakfast was still being served. She yelled back you got 10 minutes. I'll be there in a minute. As I waited I noticed she had seated a couple and was tending to them. They ordered a drink. She sat me next to them. I heard her ask for food order. Well they ordered a burger off the lunch menu. And asked for the .25 cent tomato slice which she verified. And placed their order. She came to my table as I was looking for breakfast items but had given me lunch menu and got me a breakfast menu. As I was looking at the offers. I heard her come back to the other people and tell them it would be 10 minutes or so for a burger as breakfast wasn't completed. I heard her tell them if they wanted to leave it was ok she wouldn't charge them for the drink on the table. Well.... About 60 seconds later a folded bill was placed on my table and I was told when done with my 12 dollar eggs and water to pay at the register. As I finished my meal I noticed the bill was folded and thought it was unusual. But I failed to look at it. I finished my eggs and water grabbed the bill headed to register. She rang me up turned the iPad towards me and asked to approve and or give a tip. I gave an extra 2.15 said thank you to no response as she told another patron she was the owner. I grabbed my receipt and left. Well when I got back to Bloomington and empty pockets I looked at the receipt I had been given as the bill came to 17 dollars and change. My brain went hey I only had the 12 dollar eggs and water and left a 2.15 tip how did it go up to 17+... Well..... She gave me the other tables bill which was the burger plus the extra tomato and drink. So guess who paid for the extra tomato and the no charge drink??? ME I'll post images of the receipt folded so it wasn't readily readable. And what it actually was for. This was my first and last trip to this joint. Like Carnies at the fair thinking she would never see me again. So rip the Rube off.. What is the most upsetting is a gave her 2.15 to screw me out of 1.75.. WELL DONE... Response: The other party left when you told them they had to wait until kitchen changed. They never paid you anything. So not sure who you're refunding. read more

Really nice little restaurant in Nashville, In. We purchased a BLT, a Turkey Club and a pulled pork bbq. All were reasonably priced and well prepared. The turkey was fresh turkey, not deli-sliced. The BLT was well loaded with the bacon crisp just the way I like it. The Pull Pork was a generous portion and delicious. The fries were served hot and crisp. There are a lot of places to grab a sandwich and side in Nashville. You should come to this one if you like delightfully odd Bobby Knight memorabilia or delicious homemade ice cream. Honestly, the food would've earned this review 2 or 3 stars until that ice cream. It's homemade by the owner and when I say homemade, I mean you order it and she goes back and makes some. I had the honey lavender. This doesn't look like the kind of place where you can order honey lavender ice cream. In addition, the service was great - we were there not long before they closed, but all the staff seemed cheery and not crabby that we had potentially prolonged their work hours. Everyone was so nice. And the decor is seriously amazing. It's like the Museum of Bobby Knight Oddities. When you first walk in, it seems like an average IU bar. But as you look closer, you'll see artistic gems such as "The Chair Heard 'Round the World" - a depiction of a chair, presumably thrown by Bobby Knight, orbiting the Earth as starry eyed children look on. Or the subtlety of the piece depicting Bobby Knight as God, with the word "God" underneath. And also, the ice cream. The food was okay. Not the best chicken salad ever, but fine. But...that ice cream. I took a lot of pictures of the memorabilia, but by the time my ice cream arrived I was eating that and wrestling a wriggly baby so, no pics of the ice cream. read more

This is one of our favorite Nashville, Indiana, casual restaurants. We've enjoyed salads, soup and sandwiches there (the breaded cod sandwich is my husband's favorite!); all of this is complemented by the friendliness of the staff and superb service. This family-run and family-staffed restaurant is a true labor of love. That love includes regularly creating new homemade dishes as well as making tasty menu staples. The love also extends to the cute, quaint town of Nashville itself as well as Indiana basketball legend Bobby Knight. Decked out in red and white with wall-to-wall posters, photos, banners, memorabilia and the occasional bobble head, the decor is a tribute to IU basketball and the famous winning coach. Saving the best for last, you mustn't leave without experiencing one of Cheryl the proprietor's outstanding, unique ice cream, sherbet and sorbet creations. Along with the more predictable Chocolate Brownie Bit and Raspberry ice creams and Lemon sorbet, the more adventurous (like we are) can marvel at the deliciousness of Sweet Basil or Mint Matcha ice creams, Cilantro Lime sherbet (oh, the tanginess!) or Cucumber-White Wine-Mint sorbet (yes, I did, and it was amazing!) among MANY others. The food was okay, but 3 people for lunch cost 60 dollars. All we had were burgers and fries and no refills on drinks. charged a dollar for refills. I could have gone to a steak house and got dinners with salads and one side for 3 people for that price with refills on drinks and free rolls. I know times are tough, but goodness. offer some combos for lunch for families and reduce the amount of food you give by offering smaller portions. Make it affordable for people to eat out. That is why you are losing your businesses. Be innovative and think of your customers and give them options. I like your place but will not eat there again. I didn't expect much out of this place...after all, not much can operate in Nashville when the town is empty for large portions of the year. This place has pretty good service, but if you want to be watched by 30 unique effigies of Bob Knight while you eat, this is the place for you! The decorations are a little over-the-top here. It's all IU...nothing else. There's something IU related on every inch of the walls. The food was nothing special. For a place that specializes in sandwiches, this wasn't too impressive. It wasn't BAD, it just wasn't good. The hot ham and cheese was kinda greasy. They gave way too many fries...they were alright, but together with the sandwich they managed to leave my throat dry, scratchy, AND greasy. I also felt like I'd just consumed a vat of lard. My family and I really like this place! Every time we go to Brown County we always stop in here for lunch, kinda like a traditional thing! My favorite sandwich to get is the Junk Hunter's Grilled Ham & Cheese Platte, get it every time we stop in! The owner and his family seem to run the place and are very friendly people! For anyone that has never been here while in Nashville, you should give it a try if you're not looking for a big meal! The only thing that isn't the greatest is how small a place it is, but in all is what I really like about it! Prices are reasonable and service is good. If you are a Bobby Knight fan you will love it here. I believe the restaurant holds the largest Bobby Knight memorabilia collection. Oh boy. Could have been a nice lunch, but it's hard to enjoy yourself when everything was wrong. Waited to sit, but I was ok with that. Sat at a tiny table at the entrance of the kitchen. I was willing to deal with that because of the wait. Everyone, I mean everyone who worked there, including the owners, went in and out of the entrance and no one, not one person stopped to take our order for 20min. I wanted to leave, but my husband convinced me to stay. 3 tables seated after us were waited on first. When We were finally waited on the waitress was unapologetic. A simple "I'm sorry you had to wait" would have smoothed it out. Ordered the turkey club and specifically requested it cold, but it came out hot. It was not what I was expecting to eat, but luckily it was flavorful. Waitress never came back to check on us and we had to go to the register to get our own check. To say that this place is an experience would be an incredible understatement. After my boyfriend and I visited today, we went on Yelp to see if anyone had the same thoughts that we had about the place. It now seems as though we need to tell our story. Upon arrival, we had to wait for about ten minutes due to the restaurant only having a couple of people working. I would also like to note that there may have been a sixty year age gap between to two main workers, but both were very nice. After seeing the extreme amount of interesting Bobby Knight memorabilia, we were seated under more Bobby Knight memorabilia. One chair was three inches taller than the other chair so if one member of your party is self-conscious about height, I would not recommend the table next to the door to the bathroom which maybe 15 people questioned even though there is a sign on the door giving explicit directions to the bathroom. From our table, we could see both multiple raggedy Ann dolls of schools in the Midwest hung up on pillars and the thermostat which was set to a brisk 56 degrees. These things were questioned. When we attempted to order our food with our drinks, we were told that there were other tables ahead of us so we ordered our drinks only. They were pretty busy, so we understood. Our waitress then came back with two cans of coke which you got to pour yourself, which is kinda a fun hands on experience. There may have also been an urn looking thing on our table. The menu- expensive for what it is. A bologna and cheese sandwich was $10. There was a note that sometimes you don't get avocado. Other oddities were found on the menu. Reader, I know you're asking: why 3 stars? Here's the thing. The food was actually really good, the decorations gave you something to talk about, and the old woman doing every single job was so kindhearted that the experience was so wholesome. They were very bland and not a lot of sausage. I also got the bear claw. I was hopping for something made there. It tasted like something out of a box... Costco maybe. I also got the sausage patty. Dropped by here for lunch on what was not a busy weekend in Nashville. I've seen it much more packed, although it was still busy. If you are a Purdue fan (like me) you might not want to eat here. The owner is a huge IU and Bobby Knight fan, but to his credit, he has an awesome collection he's acquired over many many years, and I have to give him due respect for his collection. The service was not that great but it was busy. We had to wait in the stairwell outside (the restaurant is in a lower level basement although there are windows). There is no other waiting area. The food is OK, nothing spectacular, but it is reasonably priced. I doubt that I would go back here and not because of the IU decor. Well, maybe if I wore a Purdue shirt I might just to cause a ruckus. read more

We enjoyed breakfast at The Sandwich Shop. The Owner has chosen to decorate in IU memorabilia. Our waitress kept pouring coffee from the time we entered until we left. The sausage portion was huge. The eggs and biscuits and gravy were fair. It wasn't southern cooking after all as it was across the Ohio! . The staff was very friendly and aimed to please. This restaurant is clean and cozy. We will return when we visit Brown County again. My only problem with our second visit was a large table of young adults who left their children unattended and allowed them to be extremely noisy. This was one of the recommended spot in this quaint little town. The location is in the basement of the corner building. The only sign that a restaurant exist is a little board out from with "Our sandwich place" outside. The server was very nice! The restaurant is fairly new. It opened 1 year ago and they have changed the menu 3 times already so they are still working on perfecting it! The entire inside is decorated with IU memorabilia and Bob Knight pictures. Definitely a touristy location! The food came out super quick and extra hot! We tried the tenderloin, mac n cheese, fries, Reuben sandwich and ambrosia. The tenderloin was delicious! You can definitely tell it was hand breaded. The Reuben sandwich was also very good and melted in your mouth! The mac n cheese was decent, if I could go back I would order chips with it instead. I never had ambrosia so I thought I would try it out. It was definitely not my cup of tea. But overall it is a great lunch spot that you should most definitely try at least once! read more

I can't say enough about this place! I found That Sandwich Place on accident the first time I was is town on vacation, and was in love instantly. The breakfasts are awesome! I got pecan pancakes and home fries, and was immediately impressed by the uniqueness of the venue and the deliciousness of the food. The restaurant itself is pretty small, and is located in the heart of town. The prices are much lower than I'm used to in Northern Virginia and every time I've been back I've been greeted by the same friendly wait staff. I make a point to go here when I visit Nashville and have recommended it to friends who pass through the area. read more
