Well, Awnie's was open and has great reviews, so I went for it. First impressions actually weren't that great. It's a narrow place, and old 30s-50s romantic music set the tone. As I looked at the menu, I noticed that one of the four orders at the next table over was wrong. They accepted it rather than send back, but I took note. Well, I took my chance and ordered spinach and cheese ravioli, based on the waitress saying it's both less food and more popular than the five cheese tortellini - good for my diet! I got it with a side salad to veg up, came with a nice homemade dressing and crispy (not soft) croutons. The ravioli's alfredo sauce has unmatchable homemade quality. This place cares about its food. Unfortunately, and the reason I'm taking off a star, is things seem a little aloof. We had that wrong order come out early. Then two people walked in about 10 minutes before closing and the hostess said "sorry, we're closed" and they walked back out... but apparently she got corrected, went back out after them, and brought them back in because the kitchen doesn't close until the restaurant does! I appreciate that they are willing to own their errors and do right by people, they just need to work on their consistency. And the atmosphere, but maybe that's just my opinion. Not a bad spot overall to have outlived its competition.
