As per our tradition of more than 10 years, we selected Outback as last dinner restaurant on our last day. We were fortunate to be seated right away. There was some confusion because reception forgot to inform our waitress of our arrival. As soon as she noticed us, she apologized profusely and took our drinks order. For main I ordered the classic prime beef medium rare, sweet potato and Caesar salad, I was told that they were out of the sweet potatoes. How can they run out of that staples at almost the beginning of dinner service. Inventory management was definitely lacking. Food Lion had their special of 4 sweep potatoes for $2.00 haha. I had to choose the regular baked potato. My daughter chose skewers with buttered baked potato. Service was fast and food was tasty with the quality we are expecting from that restaurant. On the other hand, my potato was dry even if loaded. My prime was a 12 oz but it seemed that 3 ounces were fat. She have changed the menu and taken off, changed the names of and cuts of many of the items for which we always went to Outback for. "Rockhampton" ribeye which sounds fancy but is bigger and more costly cut than the 10 ounce ribeye which was always tender and flavorful. The Rockhampton was neither. I had it twice and it was tough and cost more. All the steaks cost more. Also, half the restaurant was empty and we had "call ahead seating" yet had to wait because they did not have enough wait staff. Our waiter was awesome and he worked like eight tables all at once. Not sure why this Outback has a 2.8 star rating. Maybe some past poor management issues. Our meal tonight was excellent and service was fantastic. Cindy did a great as our server. We started with Aussie cheese fries and they were hot and cheesy. My wife ordered the 6 oz sirloin with broccoli. I ordered the sirloin and grilled shrimp with asparagus. One of the main chain restaurants in OBX, it has been consistent quality after multiple visits to this location; however, this visit was just OK. She made us wait for over an hour because she said she didn't have a table for the whole family, when that was a lie. They have very bad service, and the hostess doesn't have customer service. We came for dinner and were seated at a table in the bar area by the manager. The restaurant was more than half full, and staff seemed a bit harried. Our server was the bartender, Dusty, who by himself had to make all drinks for the restaurant as well as be the bartender for a half dozen guests and server three tables in the bar area. Still, he did a great job and was friendly. The boomerang cocktail flight was well worth the $7 for four drink samplers. The $22 6 oz filet mignon was okay, just not flavorful, but the temperature was fine. The Parmesan-encrusted chicken sandwich was a hit--super delicious and full of flavor with sizzling hot melted cheese smothered over the juicy chicken breast. The Bloomin' onion was greasy and delicious but such a large size, we couldn't eat more than a quarter of it. Presentation and taste were excellent. A great value at $9. Toward the end of the meal two male teens (who had been rude and unreasonably demanding to their server throughout their meal) skipped out on the bill and the manager went chasing them, but they got away. read more

We sat in bar area tables and was serviced by the bartender name Chris. He was on his game and was very polite and respectful to say the least. The food was pretty standard across the board with their restaurants. I do have to say that their coconut shrimp had shrunk down a few sizes.the steak and cheese dip was pretty much cheese dip and did not look like the menu photo. But their prime rib was pretty good and the shrimp and steak tip pasta in Alfredo sauce was pretty good as well. They had seared ahi tuna on the menu which surprisingly was really good as well. Save your money. We went here for a girls dinner on july 24th 2025 on our vacation and this was the worst experience ever. We had 5 people and all ordered steak. Our food came out 1.25 hours after it was sent in. After cutting into the steaks, we had to send them all back because every single one of them was cooked horribly wrong and looked like they were charred and forgotten on the grill. After this, we learned that the table next to us and our checks got mixed up and we had to wait to get that figured out before our steaks came back out. At this point we'd been here for more than 2 hours. Our steaks came out and they were cooked much better but the manager Rebecca still haden't talked to us or even apologized. She had walked by us about 5 times and was even looking at us from across the restaurant. No sympathy or respect. Not to mention this was on a Thursday night and was not busy at all... 5 tables in total. Just crazy and so unprofessional. We were there 3.25 hours (more than 3 hours just waiting). Don't come. We are on a family vacation in the Outer Banks and decided to try Outback Steakhouse in Nags Head for dinner. Since we were coming in with a larger party, including 5 kids, we called ahead in the afternoon to reserve a table for dinner. When we arrived, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess, but unfortunately there was a small mix up with our reservation. The manager, Sam D. was very quick to step in and help accommodate our large party, making sure we were all seated comfortably. The staff even went out of their way to locate a large box of crayons to keep our kids occupied! We got started with a blooming onion, mac and cheese bites and loaded cheese fries. All the appetizers came out quickly, were fresh, hot and delicious! Our server, Katie C. was exceptional! Although clearly busy, she was extremely attentive to our needs, kept our drinks filled and was very personable and friendly. She gave us great recommendations from the menu and was great with our large party and kids! Our dinners all came out in a timely manner, and like the appetizers, were fresh, hot and delicious. Portion sizes were large and we all had leftovers to bring home! We then ordered dessert which was delicious as well. Throughout the meal, the manager, Sam D. came over to check on us numerous times. Picked up dinner here after a few other restaurants were closed (we are here during off season). Food was exactly how you expect Outback to taste. The loss of star was for the pickup service and wait time. The woman running the area clearly needed help and was a bit overworked and impatient. With the number of people picking up they could use 2-3 people like my Outback at home. They clearly need a sign to tell people to stay in their cars as this slowed her down and 2 people waited at the door and in her way. So we went there the 1st night we arrived. The waitress was amazing! But the food was horrible. How do you go to a steak house and get an overcooked steak! 3 steaks were ordered. All 3 steaks had the same results. One ribeye. Which was over cooked. We couldn't even eat that one. 2nd was a sirloin medium rare. Came out medium well. 3 rd steak medium rare. We stopped in between events at OBX and my order was messed up- I ordered Alice Springs Chicken baked potato and mixed veggies. Our food is brought out I have veggies and no Chicken? Waitress makes her rounds I explain I'm missing my chicken she was like grilled chicken I knew she was clueless. I said I ordered Alice Springs Chicken - she then goes and puts in the order she said would you love me that in a to go box? WTH ‍ WTH no I would like it with my veggies. So she brings out my bill and says I only charged you for chicken...
