We had a mixed experience at the Outback Steakhouse on West Broad Street. On the one hand, the staff were friendly, attentive, and just wonderful. On the other hand, the food was a mixed bag. I had the kids' meal Chicken on the Barbie. The chicken was dry and lacked any seasoning, while the broccoli had the opposite problem and was overly salted. My buddy had his steak cooked medium rare, but it came out well done. One of the kids had a cheeseburger that was dry, and the bun tasted stale. Another of the kids had the chicken nuggets. They were fine, although there was a lot of breading and not a lot of chicken inside. The fries were fine. Another problem we had was the table ordering system, which had food residue on it. I recently learned via Tik Tok That Outback had wings. So like any other human I had to try them! It was a rainy night so I ordered online. There are special prices and combos if you order via the app versus just the site so I downloaded the app and ordered the wing special that came with a side; a roll and veggies and ranch. I chose a baked potato as the side and added the mozzarella sticks. The pickup process was seamless and super convenient. The app sent me a a text when my order was almost complete and when I arrived there was a very well lit side of the parking lot for to go orders. Once you add in your spot number two minutes later a bubbly personality appeared with my hot order and went over everything in the bag with me. I went with my family for dinner. While eating my food I found a hair in the meat. I told the waitress who then got, who identified himself as the manager. I tried to be discreet hoping it was an isolated incident. He offered to "make it right". How he made it right was charging me again for the meal, then removing it as a "courtesy". We always share sides, if not entrees, so we both had bites of each. It was ALL GOOD! He is not even a fan of soup OR onions but liked the onion soup, bloomin onions and his bloomin onion burger! I was utterly impressed by the hamburger steak. I like a good diner-style chuckwagon and this hit the spot. It was thick and meaty, seasoned well, and did not even need the gravy, although that was good too. The waitress double checked that I wanted it medium citing that some people order it not knowing that it comes out pink. I like mine that way, and it was cooked just right. We required no additional condiments or seasonings. Our waitress was attentive and the only thing missed was the lemon in my water, but when I asked again, I was brought a little bowl full and it was quite nice having my little lemon pile to add to my water refills. We both misunderstood the bundle meal we got thinking that it was supposed to come with a slice of cheesecake. It never got offered to us but we did get 2 sides instead of one. I don't know if the menu was printed wrong, the waitress didn't know the bundle well, or if I misread. I kept waiting for the cheesecake and it never came. Then I realized we each had 2 sides and figured it was some secret option LoL We didn't bring it up because we were satisfied with our meal. Maybe next time! Oh! So when we pulled in, parking was full. We got the very last spot available. It was in the rear of the building by the dumpster and it smelled awful. But not like garbage, like sewage. At first I thought it was the trash but we smelled it all the way into, and out of, the restaurant. I don't know if it was a local sewage leak or what but it almost made us leave before we even got out of the truck. And the windows are very dirty. I didn't even know Outback Steakhouse still existed. I've only eaten here like twice because I always forget about it! My friend was really wanting a Blooming Onion and so we went for that. I got to try the Blooming Onion and it was delicious! I also go the Blooming Burger and it was delicious. We also got a Carmel cookie skillet and it was delicious. Fast forward to my recent visit, I think, "Okay, let's try the 16 oz outback style prime rib." Guess what? Same story - half-inch thick and as unseared as ever. It really gets under my skin that a so-called "steakhouse" can serve up these paper-thin steaks. You can't sear something that thin, and it's a total letdown in both presentation and flavor. He said it would take 5-10 minutes to bring to my car. Well...twenty minutes went by so I got out of my car to go get. There was another 10-15 minute wait. Brown lettuce was on the bottom of the side. Way to go cooks. The Health Department needs to come to see you ASAP. The food was ice cold like it came out of the refrigerator. Because some smart person microwaved the butter in the container, the sweet potato, salmon, and lobster were swimming in butter. The other sweet potato with the meal was charred so black that it was not edible. Maybe your cooks like their food ice cold and swimming in butter, but I don't. Money wasted. What a disappointment! $60 wasted as if I flushed it down the toilet. Surely, you can't expect me to come back.
