If you're looking for a Cesar salad that's not really a Cesar salad this is the place for you!! I ordered the Cesar salad with chicken. While the salad was absolutely delish it did not taste like a Cesar salad. That is what calls for the poor review. It had more of a spicy dressing taste. Too much pepper. Also for the price there was hardly any chicken. Maybe like half a chicken. Anyways the salad was good and I ate it all but it wasn't a Cesar salad I enjoyed the croutons too they we're garlicky and delicious. For being a chain restaurant, its pretty damn good. Prices are fair, atmosphere is warm, and their victorian center cuts are phenomenal. The bloomin onion definately lives up to the height, and the sheer side of "The Melbourne" is just a 22 oz piece of awesomeness. read more

Went to Outback in Shelton this evening and was very happy with the service and the food. When we arrived at 6:00pm, we were quoted an hour wait. Went to the bar area and sat immediately. Our waitress took our order very quickly and all food and drinks were served without a problem. My 10oz filet and my wife's strip steak were cooked perfect. Very happy repeat customers. read more

We asked servers 3 times for bread which never came. I asked for a medium cooked steak and it was literally raw. We waited 20 minutes for drink refills. The desert that was included with the special never came out. After spending over an hour waiting for our meal I couldn't wait to leave. I used to like this place. My family has been to almost every restaurant in Newington and we still haven't found "that favorite place" to go to every weekend. Our friends had been talking about this place called The Outback. But we never even heard of it, yet seen it on the roads. Therefore we decided to look it up on the Internet to find a menu and sure enough, just by making the first click, we knew it was the restaurant for us. Of course, we weren't physically at the restaurant, but it felt as if we were sitting right there at a booth, wafting in all the heavenly smells wavering off the food. After we were done looking at the website, we had to remind ourselves to head back down to planet Earth. And when we did come back to earth, we realized with mouths watering, we were STARVING! So we jumped in the car, sped off down the road, and before we knew it, we were right there in the parking lot... Before I even made it to the door I caught faint smells of the most heavenly food on earth. I can almost taste the gooey cheesiness of their cheese fries. I can almost smell the peppery scent of their "cooked just right" steak. Oh wait! I can smell it! When I finally walked in the door, a waitress greeted my family whole-heartedly in a sweet, cheerful voice and I knew from that moment on, it was going to be quite a dinner. She led us to a window booth right near a cozy, warm heater. So even though it may have been almost below freezing outside, my family and I defrosted within seconds. The second my bottom hit the seat I was instantly overly comfortable. And even though I may not have said it aloud, I know my family (especially my sister) agreed because she was bouncing on the seat faster than a dog chasing after a frightened cat. Not only was the booth roomy, warm, and comfortable, the lighting made me want to drift off into peaceful dreams. Unlike some restaurants, there wasn't fluorescent lighting; it was calming, peaceful, and reassuring that we were definitely at the right place. And did I mention the music? Soft, calming, and peacefully playing with my ears, my family and I couldn't wait for our food to come. When our waitress took our order, she was genuinely happy and sweet; we knew from the first word out of her mouth she was getting a good tip. Unlike most restaurants, our food came quickly. And when it came.... Well, you should have seen the priceless glowing smiles on our faces! We each took a bite at the same exact time and as if in melody let out a, "mhhhhmmm," The steak was absolutely perfect. Not too rare, or too well done. As Goldie locks would say, "Just right!" The cheese fries I ordered were beyond fabulous, and not only did they look like they were from a magazine cover, they tasted out of this world! They were obviously not stingy with the cheese! My parents' dishes were just as fantastic as mine. They loved their food so much, they wouldn't even let me try a bite! (I snuck a bite anyway and trust me, it was totally fabu!) Yes, we were stuffed from our overly enjoyed entrée, but we just had to have some dessert. Everything on the menu looked tasty, but we decided to go with something chocolate (Of course!), When our triple chocolate layer cake came, we all nearly pushed each other down trying to grab a bite before it was all gone. This chocolate cake wasn't just chocolate cake, it was a life saver, a bite of heaven, and of course from now on, my best friend! I honestly cannot think of any cake in the world I'd rather eat! Even though the entrée was beyond imaginable, the cake was by far, the BEST part of my dinner. We knew our wonderful journey of gobbling up food was over when the waitress glided over to our table and gently set the bill on the table. And OMG! There were these cute little mints tucked away into the pockets! Been a while since visiting this particular Outback. The service was good, but a few things bothered me. The food was just ok. I can't get over why everything was served on such small plates. Is this a lame attempt to make you think you are getting more? I ordered 1/2 order of ribs with fries. I could barely touch the ribs without knocking fries onto the table. I don't like to eat anything that slides off the plate because I don't trust how well the tables are cleaned. Why are they serving dinner entrees on lunch size plates? a neighboring restaurant messed up our reservation for a dozen people today. and, made no effort to rectify it. so, we merely walked into this nearby Outback, were promptly seated and served. even as a vegan, i had plenty of delicious choices served. they saved our day! read more

Worst Experience at a restaurant I have ever had at the Shelton CT Outback. My girlfriend and I went in for dinner on March 29,2014. We order a 26oz porterhouse with mashed potato's and asparagus. We ordered the steak medium well...came to the table blood raw in the center! Mashed Potato's were ice cold! and so was the asparagus! I brought this to the waiters attention, he touch the food and confirmed it was ice cold. They took the food back...literally 4 minutes later they bring the food back...COMPLETELY BURNED. It was the same steak the waiter touched reheated! soooo gross! and same with the potato's and asparagus. The Asparagus was black to the point where it was uneatable. The owner was a complete jerk and refused to take care of anything or make us a new steak. Told us to have a nice night! didn't even care! Terrible experience. Sunday afternoon late lunch. We took a seat in the bar area because there were tables available (although it didn't look that busy). Server spoke very fast and couldn't get away from us fast enough. Mediocre salad. Ordered surf and turf and both were very under-cooked and luke-warm. Ordered steak medium rare and it came out blood red in the middle.Couldn't find our server to send it back. Had to ask someone else for water and steak sauce. The manager wandered in and headed to the bar to talk with a couple, and seemed oblivious to what was going on He stood about 5 feet from us with his back turned to our table, never once turning around to make eye contact or ask if we had everything we needed.Too busy chatting up old friends at the bar. I could have called him over but at that point was eager to leave the premises. $65 for two plus tip for lousy meals. read more

Went here on a Saturday night, knowing it would be busy. Used call ahead seating so our wait was only 15-20 minutes. Food was fine, server was an odd duck, and they did not honor a discount card I had that they had honored previously. Forgot basked potato toppings....had to ask for bread refill. Lobster tacos were okay.....veggies a bit bitter and while the small freshly fried pieces of "lobster" were moist and had a lobster-like flavor to them, it was not true New England lobster....likely a mix with fish or warm water lobster, which to a true New Englander, is NOT lobster. read more

Had lunch today at out back, and it was terrible.I will not go back. $40.00 for 2 lunches, that were dried out, and chicken tenders, garlic mashed potatoes, that would choke you from dryness. Definitely NOT my favorite restaurant. Service was lousy. Went in to eat for four of us. Waiter never brought out the bread until we mentioned it. Out of the four orders, only one was right. Two were wrong, and my youngest daughter's order was never put in. Jim (the manager) came to our table and apologized. Said he would take care of it. Brought out my youngest's order first and said it was on him. Nice gesture, but we regularly go to Outback, she always gets the Lamb, so we know what it's supposed to be. This was half an order made to look like a full one. Maybe Jim thought since she was 11 years old it wouldn't matter. Next, my wife's order arrived. Jim said he would only charge us half the price. Not bad since it looked like she got half a steak. Finally the next order arrived with "cold" mashed potatoes. We didn't make a fuss. We just agreed to deal with it and never come back. The waiter was nonexistent. Kept waiting to get reorders on drinks. Not a pleasant experience at all. If you like lousy service and an unpleasant experience when dining, THIS IS THE PLACE. Like I said. Definitely NOT my favorite restaurant. Will NEVER go to this Outback ever again. Maybe I'll avoid ALL Outbacks altogether and go to Longhorn's instead. read more

I dined at Outback in Manchester, CT several years ago, and it was just ok. I haven't been back to any other location for several years. Then I just recently went to the one in Southington, CT. I ordered a 6 oz. sirloin to cook medium-well with fries. It came to me almost fully cooked, bland flavor, a bit dry and chewy. The fries were super soggy and greasy. Quite disgusting. The food is of poor quality, and it's obvious they don't pay attention to the way a customer wants their food cooked. I will never go to any Outback steakhouse again. So I have never understood why having big knives was a draw for any restaurant. I have eaten at Outbacks all over the country and while not being outstanding the staff is always well trained and the food reliably acceptable. Until tonight. First they tried to squeeze seven people into a booth clearly intended for 4. At first we thought the waitress was swamped because of the poor service, but there were four manager types who contributed nothing more than open the door for departing guests. It took 10minutes for our drink order to be served which was nothing more than beer and lemonade. We had to ask for the bread . The waitress took one appetizer order and then went on to the next person before the first order was completed. The server, who was not the waitress, could not tell the difference between a sirloin and a filet. Same sever could not identify which salad was which and asked one of us to stick a finger in the dressing and taste it to assist her. Waitress still among the missing.and never bothered to check if our orders were delivered as expected. I don't know why they ask you what degree of doneness you expect cause you get what you get. And why ask what flavor sauce you want on your cheesecake when you intend to serve it plain anyway. I've lost interest before I have run out of complaints read more

Sat there for about 20 min. The waiter walked by 5 different times didn't even look at us as we were looking around for our waiter/waitress. We pulled over another waitress who apologized and sent that waiter over. He said he didn't know it was his table and apologized. He took our order. Our appetizer look like it was sitting. It was soggy and greasy. The mgr came over to apologize for us sitting for a long time and said "he would do something for us." We thanked him. We said to each other we weren't looking for a comped bill or item but appreciated the thought." The hostess also came over to apologize as my boyfriend eats there frequently. The bill came and nothing was taken off. If you're the mgr don't bother to apologize and offer something if you don't follow through. The hostess and other mgr offered something as we were leaving as I told them the other mgr never took anything off the bill. At that point I just wanted out of there. Gave it 2 stars for the waitress Dana who helped us first and sent our waiter over and the hostess was nice. read more

Outback had been a favorite of mine for over 20 years. You just had to admire the way these places were managed. Not so much anymore. Stopped in for lunch today. The iced tea and coke arrived with no lemon. They're out of it. Huh? We're one of the first tables of the day and no one can run out to the store nearby to grab some lemons? You had to have been out of them since last night! Then we had to ask for sugar since they hide those so they won't get stolen. Well, she didn't bring it until we reminded her again. She asked if we wanted bread and we answered yes. After awhile our salads arrived. No bread. No waitress. We finished the salads and had to remind her yet again to bring bread. Then the entrees arrived. Rib-eye steak was raw and loaded with grizzle. Bland. The prime rib sandwich however, was excellent. Luckily, it came with plenty of au jus so my wife could dip her rib-eye to give it some semblance of taste. Just when we hoped things were starting to look up, we had to wait and wait for the check. Then we had to wait 20 minutes more until she told us that the manager had to ring it up and he was nowhere to be found. Good Lord. I think we finally uncovered where the breakdown is..... This is about the tenth time I've been to different Outback's over the years. Usually going back for convenience of location or a gift card to get rid of. The food is fair, the portions are small and the beer selection is poor. They usually cook the steak to how you asked for it. Which they should be able to, being a steak house. Again this time the wait person seemed very confused when asked questions and had to go check multiple times.I am assuming the bread is baked from frozen partially cooked dough. As there was a wait for it and then it was hot on the outside and cold in the center. It is the the type of bread you can squish to nothing. That is sweet and comes with whipped butter. I wanted to see if I could use all the butter on the whole loaf. Then stuff the whole loaf in my mouth in one bite. While being videoed, but no one wanted me to. I still think I can, maybe next time if I ever go back. Just another chain that spend too much on advertising and not enough on the actual food.
