She was great too. They played the music I selected and allowed me to decorate and it looked beautiful! 50 people attended. Outstanding food, everyone raved about it. I've been to Calaroso quite a few times but stopped going after they cut back on the bands. So, I went for dinner last weekend and noticed a slight change to the menu. I went there as I had a craving for my favorite dish "Blackened Basher Alfredo". They changed the name and the pasta type. But it was still pretty good. Our server was super friendly and checked in on us often. The place still looks great and clean. Everything was fresh. It's still a great place to go. We stopped in for lunch and were seated immediately. They have seating outdoors, at the bar and in a dining room. The staff was really nice and helpful. For our lunch I ordered the meatball parmigiana and my girlfriend had the chicken parmigiana. Both sandwiches were rather large, that was good. The sandwiches were ok, mine came with a salad and my girlfriend had the fries. For dessert we had the fried dough with sugar. Unfortunately, I did not like it. It was a bit on the greasy side and the dough did not seem right. I really liked the decor and the staff was helpful. read more

Maybe you've had a similar experience... You're in those very early stages of "tomber amoureux" and want to impress your (potential) partner. You're going to cook them a romantic dinner but don't know your 'fricassee' from your 'flambée', your 'tempura' from your 'tempering'. The dinner turns out to be a bust. But many years after the fact you're able to look back on it with a laugh. "Hey, you remember when you tried that weird peach-cheese-soup recipe you found in the New York Times all those years ago?" That's what I kept thinking about after our visit here. So much potential... The two levels of outdoor seating. The basement 'lounge'. The live music (on the night we swung by the guy on the mic was an impressive guitar player even if his singing wasn't as strong). The bar (loaded with local patrons). The various 'theme nights' ("Endless Wings", etc.) And that ambitious menu. "French onion fettuccine" to "blackened basher alfredo" - weird and curious creations I've never seen in my neck of the woods. Unfortunately none of us really enjoyed our meals. My 'veggie wrap' didn't work. (Fried eggplant and cucumbers weren't pairing up very well and the burrata should've been creamy and luscious but instead was bland and hard.) The beet-kale salad was... strange. After a few bites one kid couldn't continue with his pasta dish. His brother did enjoy the pulled pork platter. Even my (unsweetened) iced tea was... odd. Very nice staff. Parking lot (as well as street parking). Pricing and portions were legit, all things considered. After driving over two hours with two more to go - we needed a rest stop and took a shot coming here but it was disappointing. (And, yes, that soup disaster was something that happened when I was trying to woo the Mrs. Thankfully she didn't kick me to the curb after that major fail decades ago.) read more

The outside is simply stunning! Unmatchable friendly, family and fun atmosphere. The Prime rib was melt in your mouth delicious with the perfect amount of seasoning. My husband had the brick oven pizza with ricotta. I have never seen him eat a whole pie in one sitting. I had a pistachio martini that was out of this world! Our server was so attentive and friendly. In the past week, I've attended two repast's here and I have been blown away by the respect, compassion, and professionalism from all of the staff. Went here for a bridal shower brunch. Sat in the covered porch with overhead heaters. Blazing hot. Asked several times to lower the temperature before they finally did anything. We were seated a half hour with no offer of any beverage. Finally flagged down a server for a glass of water (we were all parched from being under the heaters). Each guest had to flag down a server for water....and coffee....and anything else we needed. They couldn't bring a pitcher of water and glasses to the table? The buffet food was cold and greasy. The breads were stale. The cook at the omelette station was inexperienced and nervous. Ended up burning the eggs. Won't be back. read more

Came here for late lunch/early dinner with friends yesterday (Weds, Sept. 17, 2025) and couldn't have been happier. Food, service, EVERYTHING was excellent. Tried their wood-fired pizza (had had their gas oven pizza before - great) for the first time and was so happy that I did - delicious! They even happily accommodated our vegan friend who has multiple food allergies - he, too, loved his meal. Cannot say enough about this place. Thank you so much. The service was excellent we were greeted right at the door, the setting was extremely nice on the outside and I'm going to say inside was OK very acceptable. The food was where it was kind of a miss, I'm going to call it average. I expected a little bit more from them as far as the quality of the food. Have never been here and it comes highly recommended by everyone in town. The menu is a classic Italian trattoria. I had the lasagna and my wife the Alfredo. Both were excellent and exactly what you would expect. The real attraction is the atmosphere and options. You can eat outside , inside, upstairs, downstairs, bar or restaurant. Normally, I'm not a negative person, but I was extremely disappointed, what attracted us to go to the restaurant was it is magnificently lit up outdoor, porch up stairs and down was very nicely done, we figured out how could we go wrong? I had stuff soup which was somewhat tasty, but not impressive, I think if they had put mashed potatoes in with it along with the spinach, it would've been a Homerun, my wife on the other hand, ordered a pizza that was so hard she was worried about actually cracking her tooth, I ordered an old-fashioned and my wife ordered juice. The absolute worst dining experience I have had in years. Came in on a Monday night. Place wasn't too busy, many open tables. They said they were having a fundraiser that night but it wasn't jam packed or anything. Our overall dining experience took 2.5 hours. It took us an hour just to get bread and the two beers we ordered. 15 minutes more for salad. Apps took another 30 minutes after that. And the meals came out close to 2.5 hours after we ordered. Our waitress was not even the slightest bit apologetic. She was absent for most of the night. Our food finally came 15 more minutes after we spoke to the manager. When it did finally come it was not prepared well (such as the pancetta in the carbonara wasn't even cooked; sauces were watery; no mushrooms on burger as requested). The food was barely mediocre and the portion sizes were so small, looked more like lunch portions than dinner. It was such a disappointing night, especially since we were there to celebrate a birthday. Definitely not the fun and festive evening we expected to have. By the disappointed looks on the faces of the other patrons, they were all having somewhat similar experiences to ours. There are so many other good businesses in the area that I'd rather give my money to, and we'll be going there instead in the future. read more

My mom brought me here and it exceeded my expectations. Shelton is one of the most depressing places in the world to me but Verace is a highlight where I will gladly stop again to have some homemade pasta with friendly service. I'm a local and frequent this place pretty often for the past 4-5 years and this is always my immediate spot to head to. Best pizza around Shelton (and debatably CT). It's fresh on a wood fired oven and the crust is perfect around the edges. Great sandwiches for lunch and great appetizers to split. Plenty of TV's and sitting room for watching games and drinking a few rounds of beer. Has a great restaurant and bar vibe. Everything is reasonably priced plus the food and service is excellent. In all, it's perfect for whatever the occasion may be; catching up with a friend, going out with a group of people, a special family event or watching a big sports game. Caloroso has it all! read more
