Outline Sour Candy is a neighborhood candy store with a story and a mission. I had awaited its opening for 2025, and I'm pleased to say they opened this past December. They offered a candy experience that was unlike any I had before and reminded me to measure my sugar by the gram.
All your purchases are cents by the gram, a measurement not based on a king's hand or a ruler's foot. You may roughly pay in calories four times what you pay in cents. (1g sugar =4kCal) You won't break your budget, however, since there's a variety of sweets here besides the hallmark of sour candy in the name.
The title comes from the proprietor, which covers only the "Outline" he and his family have traveled. In this way, Outline delivers more than a classic candy store feel, as turning behind you to check your numeric menu will let you glimpse timeless technology, testimonies, and truths. Newspaper clippings, photos, quotes, and more match the fresh paint and care put into the decor. Outline is a neighborhood candy store, with touches of museum, and a social club.
I would advise the store staff to offer 100g within a matching container next to each of their 99 options, as I was first measuring 100 grams of my candies at a time to get a sense of my budgeting for each choice. 100g of Malted milk balls looked sparse for what were really large double-coated milk balls. I think a few favorites for me might be their candy lego-lookalikes, as I can see regularly purchasing them on trips. Not all candy is by the gram, like Airheads, or "Toxic Waste". I would have liked to see more cinnamon options, but I'm grateful they had such a selection. Nearly one hundred kinds of varieties means that you might want to visit with your friends and see where you all line up, like sharing a pizza based on toppings. (Pizza is next door, at Primo's, though!)
When I stopped by, I couldn't glimpse everything that the proprietor and his staff placed out, but I hope they may have labels, or a photo accompanying the decor that lays out each item. I saw a rotary phone, very familiar to me as an elder millennial, but I would have enjoyed asking some staff more if they were dedicated to more behind the counter. There was plenty to catch my eye on their side, like a talented dancer in the family? read more
