I ordered flowers to be delivered to friends in New York as Ovando came recommended to me by these friends. I ordered lilies to be sent as a loose English garden arrangement, not tight and structured. The arrangement cost a total of $435 and legit looks like it came from my local grocery store. It was hideous, and looked like tall soldiers with ugly greenery around you would find in an arrangement pre-made at the store. The recipients were not happy either. Just overall disappointed and would not use Ovando again when sending flowers in New York. Only giving two stars because the person who took my order was really helpful and nice. I asked for a partial refund and they gave me $54, laughable. I could have made a better arrangement myself from Trader Joe's lilies. Do not use Ovando, you're better off visiting your local grocery store. Wasn't planning on writing this review but dealing with them after the fact and receiving that refund is insulting. read more

Based on the quality and workmanship of this arrangement, it should have lasted more than 2 days. You know this place is legit when almost every person stops right in front of the store to take a instagram photo and #ovando. The store itself is pretty small but the arrangements and and cacti are all real. So I can't even comment on the beauty of an arrangement, because I was cut off and hung up on before I could even place the order. Let me explain: I tried to order a few arrangements and had asked if they could waive the delivery fee. I was told no and I could pick up the arrangements myself. I always dislike writing a bad review, but it is unfortunate when florists take advantage of customers by using less expensive flowers when more expensive ones were paid for. For my birthday, my parents sent me a bouquet of flowers, which I took a picture of and emailed to them to say thank you. Immediately thereafter my mother called and asked whether there were any orchids in the bouquet because she didn't see any in the photo. The bouquet was put together beautifully, but it was 95% colored carnations- there were about 3-4 purple orchid flowers in the whole arrangement. My mother, who lives out of state, was upset because she paid $175 for a "bouquet of orchids" only to have a bunch of colored carnations delivered. Needless to say we won't be using Ovando in the future. read more

Ovando did the flowers for our wedding at the end of March. We choose them because we loved the flowers in their retail store - and were willing to pay top dollar to get the same for our wedding. That proved to be the wrong move. Not only were there flowers expensive to begin with, when we went back for our sample closer to the wedding they tried to upsell us more than 50% more than our original quote. We were taken aback and was not the first time in the process that we had communication issues with them. But we were willing to deal with some of the back office challenges IF the flowers on the day of the wedding were amazing. But they weren't close to that. Our Chupah was smaller than what we were promised, and some of the other centerpieces underwhelmed too but the worst problem was the white cherry blossoms started dying. In fact, we had to have them come back and add new ones to our Chupah before the ceremony - which fortunately they did. But the centerpieces suffered from the same problem of dying in the middle of the party - and that was coupled with the sloppy glue work which made the vase look cheap and unprofessional. I brought all of this up to them after the event and offered to show them pictures, but the response I got showed their lack of concern. I would not recommend Ovando for your special event. read more

Phenomenal. My boyfriend more than surprised me by having an arrangement from Ovando delivered to my job. The first thing I noticed: this is no ordinary flower arrangement. Wavy, spring green willow branches filled a very tall and narrow rectangular glass column. Four perfect ladyslipper orchids floated on top. The second thing I noticed: the weight of the arrangement. The vase was thick and heavy, not the cheap throwaway vases used by most floral shops. I have never seen anything this beautiful in my life. It puts all other floral arrangements to shame. Needless to say, I have received gasps, stares, amazed looks, and every type of compliment about the exotic, architectural arrangement on my desk. Shame on me. 1. I called to make sure the flowers would arrive before 6PM. The flowers arrived 5 minutes before 7PM. C'mon this was not a same day order and you had the ENTIRE DAY to deliver! This was enough to get me seething when we left to go out at 630PM and my girlfriend still didn't receive the surprise I planned for her special day. 2. I typed my card text correctly on the website and even called in when it looked messed up in the confirmation email. I was assured by someone that it would be fixed. Once again, come on, is anyone even paying attention to these?! I appreciate the handwritten touch, but some excerpts: "Happy birth" (I had explicitly told them birthday!) and "Let's make other." Full stop. Period. (It was supposed to be a complete sentence.) In sum, I'm disappointed by the poor customer service and sloppiness. We have had Ovando's exquisite floral arrangements at a wedding reception at The Central Park Boathouse, and also at our annual Christmas party at home. I am a Marine... just putting that out there because we generally do not express ourselves with flowers, or words... or any form of emotion. Strong silent types... that's us. I am sitting in California and I find out that some classmates are doing a two-person show (really a one-person show and the other friend is playing the piano as an accompanist) in just a day or two... I could go into detail.. like how I just told him what colors that I wanted... and he created an award winning bouquet... or that I had a short note that I wrote that he was able to get incorporated into the bouquet flawlessly.... or that within two hours, the two had already posted pictures of themselves with the bouquet on Facebook with a huge gushing thank you note for the lovely bouquet and note.... but all of those details are just an average day in the life of this phenomenal florist... I can't tell you how much I appreciated his flawless efforts and the experience that he was responsible for crafting from thousands of miles away... it means the world to me to know that I have someone I that I have never met that does beautiful work that makes that much of a difference to the people I wanted to share esteem with. My wife works in the catering business and at times the client had retained Ovando for the floral arrangements. She has always been extremely impressed with their creativity and design, quality of construction, and friendly demeanor. On Thursday she received an email announcing that Ovando has a limited edition Dia De Los Muertos terrarium available. Knowing I love live plants and flowers in the apartment, she sent it to me and I fell in love. I quickly called and ordered the terrarium to be delivered the next day and it arrived last night. There is no need to rave over the terrarium because the photos I attach will be far more impactful than what I can describe. Needless to say it is awesome and the calavera is ridiculously cool. In honor of Dia De Los Muertos, may we all remember those who have gone before us. Thank you Ovando. It's a boutique with an eye for minimalist, colorful, and inventive arrangements. Only complaint I have is that I went in on a Sunday morning and the flowers were droopy. The staff is very helpful and will go out of their way to make sure you have the best looking flowers. I rented Ovando's beautiful space for a party to celebrate the birth of my daughter. We had 60 people for a cocktail style event, and it was the absolute PERFECT space. The floral arrangements and interior design are gorgeous and set an elegant tone for an intimate party. All our guests commented on how beautiful it was. Working with Nikki was an absolute pleasure - she could not have been more accommodating in the days leading up to the event and especially on the day of the event. So let me get this out of the way, I have nothing negative to say about the flower arrangements. They are always beautiful, that is if you are lucky enough to get them, because they are overpriced and you don't want to by them for yourself. I have bought flowers from Ovando for valentines day probably 5 times, of which my wife actually only received the flowers three times. Why is that? Because this place is run like a disorganized mess at best. Three years ago the flowers never arrived even though I followed up with them numerous times during the day. My wife was disappointed to say the least, but I forgave them and actually was stupid enough to use them again this year. Guess what the flowers didn't show up again. This time I also called and followed up numerous times, and I actually thought I had it under control. First they told me that the flowers would be at my wife's office within the hour that was at 2:00 pm, then after speaking to them three times, they told me at 5 o'clock they would send the flowers to my house. When I got home at 8 o'clock guess what no flowers, and disappointed wife. When I called them, they apologized and told me that they would cancel the order. Thanks that's great customer service, here is a hint maybe offer a discount on the flowers and still send them to the customer, that is one way to keep your customers from walking away for good. I assume the flowers are being dumped in the garbage anyway. Well its too late to lecture them on how to run a business, maybe they can buy a book to help them with that. I think the how to run a business for dummies would work best. Bottom line I am never using Ovando again. read more

I was lucky enough to score a Groupon to Ovando and cashed it in for a beautiiful orchid plant (that I'm justifiably scared I will kill) and a $20 bouquet filled with fragrant hot pink and purple flowers. My boyfriend surprised me with a delivery of a gorgeous orchid duo arrangement to my office. The arrangement was beautiful - so unique and gorgeous as they bloomed. However, they didn't give me the correct care instructions for the orchid. The instructions were for regular flowers. This was not super problematic as I called and someone emailed me instructions right away. However, the orchid died after its month of blooming and the leaves died, too. I'm not really sure what happened, but for the leaves to completely die is a little unusual. I stopped by in person for some advice (I live nearby) and the salesperson couldn't provide any further care instruction. I don't think it will rebloom but I'll hold out hope. Not sure where the negativity comes from with the other reviews. The shop has consistently blown me away with their designs and their customer service. Not only are they on point, but they are sooo helpful. Originally I was supposed to pick up the flowers I ordered for a friend's birthday from the Madison location, but when work ran late and they saw I was running behind, they promptly delivered the arrangement for me at 6:00pm at night after they were closing! Always helpful and always nice, the prices are a bit steep but it's well worth it for this service. I adore Setsuko (the senior designer at Madison). She always makes the most gorgeous pieces.
