One of the worst eye doctor my family has been to. The doctor gave us wrong prescription for which we got the frames and lenses made which of course did not work for us. We spent hundreds of $$ after our insurance. Any advice how do we handle such situation and hold them accountable? It was one of my family member. Disappointed in how my last visit went. I went into the clinic multiple times to inquire about getting new glasses/ lens. I decided to buy my own frames and just needed lens. I was quoted one thing in clinic one of the times I visited. I was told to set an appointment, at the appointment I was told it would be a lot more than I was quoted. Odd location in an office building since they have retail. I passed the place twice before realizing it's inside the building and up the stairs. I came by to see if they had a frame I've been looking for but their selection is limited and messy as well. They write all over the glasses you try on, so seeing them on my face was a smudgy mess. I thought this was suppose to be a more upscale shop. The store is dark too. The office seems very slow, I didn't see any patients and only one guy asked if I needed any help shopping. The lady at the front desk didn't even look at me when I came in. Might have been the doctor, I'm not sure. I was disappointed in their selection and having to search for the place to begin with. Yesterday was my second visit as a patient to Overlake Family Vision. I was very pleased with the care I received. I am a procrastinator, and I put off a visit to try out some new contacts for an event I'm going to attend this weekend. Now, I don't recommend procrastinating (stressful, and not fair to the people helping you), but I was pleased that Dr. Mary Baker rose to the challenge of finding some soft contacts for my "steep" (astigmatism) eyes that are comfortable! She was up for a challenge and so pleasant! She really listens and was delightful to talk to. I'll be going back to get my real Rx soon! read more

TL;DR: The state licensed optician and other staff here will lie to your face and create fake state laws to try to force you to buy expensive glasses in their store. I want to be clear before I start, that the one star review is for the optician, Chrissy (sp?) Smith, and not for the optometrist I saw, Dr. Kristin Jacob. Dr. Jacob was great and I would happily have her check my eyes again, at a different office. During my appointment I told Dr. Jacob I wanted to purchase contacts at the end of my appointment, but that I prefer to buy glasses online. She said that was fine. As I was leaving, the front desk assistant handed me the printout of my prescription. I noticed that the PD (pupillary distance) was missing. I asked for it be added since some online companies require it on the prescription. I know my PD. It's been 62 since I was a teenager. The front desk assistant asked Chrissy to come measure my PD. She refused and said she wouldn't do it unless I was buying glasses in store. I pushed back on this and she told me that it was "against the law" in Washington for her to measure my PD. I have never had an optician refuse to measure my PD and I was certain she had lied. On my drive home, I called the Department of Health to find out what law she would have violated. They needed clarification on whether or not she was an optician or an apprentice. When I called Overlake Family Vision back to get this information, the older man who answered the phone was so freaking rude. He refused to tell me Chrissy's last name or what kind of license she had. He went on a rant about how "nothing replaces a professional glasses fitting," doubled-down that it was against the law for them to measure my PD, that online retailers like Warby Parker were breaking the law, and then told me that they don't want to be liable if my prescription were wrong and I got in a car accident because of it. I've been wearing glasses for 20 years and buying online for at least 6 years. None of this made any sense. Also who would drive when they can't see properly out of their new glasses?! He finally gave me her last name and said she was a licensed optician before rudely ending the call. I have talked with the Department of Health twice now. They assured me both times that there is no law in Washington State that prohibits an optometrist or optician from writing the PD on the prescription. They also let me know that Washington law forbids them from withholding your prescription unless you buy something. I have filed a complaint with the Department of Health against this optician for lying and making up state laws. I understand that buying glasses online hurts the sales in optical offices, However, DO NOT lie to patients when you are a licensed professional. DO NOT invent fake laws to coerce patients. DO NOT try to withhold part of the prescription on the condition of buying glasses. I am very concerned for other people who visit Overlake Family Vision who may believe this optician and then are forced to buy very expensive glasses here. I browsed their limited selection myself and did not find anything that fit my face or looked good on me. I left without buying the contacts, which I actually really needed and had every intention of buying in-store. read more

I have been to many optometrists and have had varied experiences. Dr. Baker is one of the most thorough eye doctors I've seen. She is also very good at explaining what and why she doing what she's doing during the exam which provided me with a high level of confidence and understanding. After the exam I was given feedback on the best glasses for my needs and fitted by her team. They helped with the selection of the most appropriate frames for my face as well. I wrote the following review nearly five months ago when I first visited this practice. I never posted it because I'm a chronic conflict-avoider, but I really feel compelled to now. Better late than never. If someone else can avoid being treated the way I was with this review, so be it. I just hate being that person! I recently received a bill from them, which is what spurred this final action of posting my experience. I'm assuming it's not the first bill, as I've moved twice since I visited them and my forwards have been a mess, so it is now overdue. I will be paying it this week, even though the appointment they are charging me for was supposed to be a complimentary "making-up for the first bad appointment", appointment... Explanation follows: First time patient this week. I don't really know how to explain how disappointed I am. The front desk was disorganized when I got there, (the staff, and desk itself with papers strewn about). They were frantically checking one woman out, and myself in. (We were the only two patients there.) In spite of this, they checked me in and finished the initial eye tests in a timely manner. The gentleman that checked me in was wonderful. He seated me in the exam room to wait for the doctor...Who I ended up waiting for, for nearly 30 minutes. I know that doctor's offices get busy, but literally no other patients were in the office. I'm assuming the doctor was on a lunch break or something, I don't know why else they would deem it appropriate to let anyone wait that long. Regardless, when she finally arrived, (without apologizing for the wait), she asked me why I was there. (Literally, "why are you here?".) I told her I hadn't had an appointment in years, so I needed an updated scrip and was interested to see if contacts were an option for me. The exam was quick and didn't seem thorough. Even when she was switching in and out prescription powers to see what worked better, when I told her it was still fuzzy and I couldn't read comfortably she said (in a somewhat confused state because she couldn't pinpoint a good power for me), "That's weird, it should be clear. I think you'll just get used to it...". Which still strikes me as a little odd. Unfortunately, she really didn't make an impression with her knowledge, and she didn't seem to care much about my eyes or getting an accurate prescription. At the very end, she asked if I had any other questions. I said yes, "what is my prescription looking like?" She literally told me what my prescriptions were and proceeded to walk out the door. I was a little confused as we hadn't even touched the subject of contacts yet. So I asked her one last time as I got up and followed her out, "what about contacts?" And she just said- "Oh, I think they would make your vision blurry", literally as she was walking away from me, she didn't turn to face me or anything. At this point I felt like she really just wanted to be done with me. I don't like confrontation one bit, so I just decided in that moment to not push it. The next day I actually went back... ONLY because of my boss. Whom, the day before asked why I came back from my lunch so late... I had to explain how long I waited for the eye doctor, which led to the rest of the details of the appointment. My boss is a wonderful person but a FORCE to be reckoned with, and was appalled by my experience. So she called them immediately and made an appointment for me to go back and get fitted for contacts free of charge. Which I was honestly totally dreading; I really didn't want to go back but, hey... Do one thing everyday that scares you, right? (Unfortunately, now I'm being charged for that appointment.... Thanks, boss. lol) Needless to say, they were NOT happy to see me, and were not shy about it. Understandably so. But really, any business given the chance to make-up for a bad customer service experience should seriously kick it up a notch. She/They did NOT, by any means. They were all very cold towards me. I was pretty nervous about letting her poke around in my eyeballs with those contacts. I did walk away with a pair of sample contacts from her, but they are extremely ill-fitting and they're definitely not the right prescription. They actually scheduled me for a follow-up two weeks later, and told me they'd give me a call two days before to confirm, but I never got that call. I also never got a call saying I missed any appointments so I don't know what happened but I'm not complaining! I probably would have cancelled had I remembered in time to do that anyway. The whole experience was a bit startling in the respect that I've never had a bad enough experience in the healthcare industry that I felt insecure about putting my health in a professional's hands before. I'm usually trusting of doctors and their education. I really hate to write anything publicly like this, but I couldn't avoid it anymore. Hope this gives someone else a little insight that I wish I had before I walked in here. read more

Switching eye doctors since mine retired. Overlake Family Vision has invested in more modern equipment than he had, apparently, since they used machines I haven't seen before, even for a leading doctor/practice in Oregon. OFV is very professional and picked out new frames in minutes, more helpful, better selection and less expensive than the place in Bellevue Square. Even better service than Costco. If you're looking for quality at a reasonable price this is definitely the practice to visit! Mary will be my doctor for years to come. read more

Dr Baker has always been professional and compassionate. I originally went to her with an unusual eye condition. Her care was quick to help try immediate relief and when needed, referred me to a specialist. Due to her compassion and proof of eye knowledge, I now get all my eye checkups and glasses there. I feel very confident in any advice she gives me for eye care. I really like the newer location. The original was in a hospital and she now is in an office building. Her staff has always been friendly and fun to deal with also. The frame selection is fantastic. Most recently I explained I was rough on my frames. The worst staff I've ever encountered. Very rude, never accept their mistakes, their staff keep on changing and becomes worse day by day. Most of time, their doctor comes and entertains you for glasses because their front desk either left early or left them without notice. And doc knows nothing about how insurance works which I don't blame. This is my experience with them: They took more than 2 months for a pair of prescription glasses. And that's not the bad part. The bad part was at first they told me, it would arrive in a week. I waited for 3 weeks and eventually thought to give them a call to check. Surprisingly, they lost the order but didn't care to call and inform. Nevertheless, I dropped by again to re-order and make them understand what pair I want, they took the order again and told me I would be getting a discount and order would arrive in few days. Even though my pair was covered by insurance. But still, felt good. Two weeks gone by, I landed up to check for the glasses. What I get is that the lady that took my order left without giving notice. so, now they don't know what i want as the lady didn't leave any note. So, told them again. Now, the lady went back to check with my insurance and come back saying the glass would cost $200 more than what i was quoted. Huuh, I felt cheated and annoyed. So, i told them what the other lady quoted me. And also all other site has the same price. She told me that's what we get it for. Although when i was working with the other lady before, I selected the glasses at their site and saw the price too. So, after much arguments, she said, they'll do it one time as I was promised and made it sounded like they're obliging me. Now after waiting for another two weeks, when i called up again to inquire, they said they would call me back. And end of the day, when they called up, they said we wont be able to complete the order as you were rude to our staff. I was like okay, didn't say a word as I was also done with them and their pathetic service. Just wanted to share my worst experience ever. Probably will benefit few people. read more

We moved to Bellevue in November of 2012. Upon getting our house in order, we sought family eye care. Overlake was very close by so we decided to try them. The experience was initially outstanding! The service we have now found out was tied to one individual her name is Crystal. Since moving up on Bel-Red Rd. and with Crystal leaving, customer service has suffered drastically. Recently, I took my son in for his annual eye exam and order contacts. Because of travel constraints an schedule, I asked if his contacts could be mailed to my home. The first response I received was No we don't mail contacts because some people have indicated they never received their product. Really???? I succumbed to this answer until the next day and called back. The second answer I got was, yes, we can mail if you pay postage. I live about 3 miles for their office and asked how much for shipping? Keep in mind I had only ordered one box for each eye. I was quoted a shipping fee of $6. Really??? I can ship merchandize via UPS two day for that volume of merchandize. I then requested a refund and indicated I would order them via 800- contacts. I was told I would have to wait 5 days before a refund could be issued because only the doctor could authorize this and she was out till then. Really??? I was cornered. My son needed them within the next two days yet they couldn't mail until 5 days out. I am really disappointed in the follow up and customer care. They should of accommodated the request and given the ongoing patronage of our family of four. We have spent roughly 3k over the last two years in eye care including sunglasses, reading glasses, contacts etc. The 'nickel and dime' approach and poor customer care was a turn off. We are moving our family eye care elsewhere. read more
