First of all, the view from the parking area is heaven sent. If heaven looks like this, most of us are in for a treat in the afterlife. Music was heard outside and when we walked into the building we found the one serenading our arrival was a DJ - DJ Dee Zee to be specific, with literal crates of vinyl. The mood felt like my godmother's den where she had parties and socials with nibbles and glasses of wine and other adult beverages. I digress, we sat down inside and were treated with a Lovely rosé and some nibbles (chips, salted nuts, and cheese with sourdough crackers. Johnny sat us and Bella kept us company sharing the notes, nuances, and pleasure that accompanied each sip. The wine offering came with a playlist. Brilliant! We learned about the wines with a background of tunes new and unknown. Amazing. What a great why to start or end a weekend, day trip, just because ... you get the picture. Come through!!! read more

Overshine is a beautiful winery nestled in the hills of Healdsburg with stunning views, a relaxing atmosphere, and solid wine. The grounds are perfectly maintained and spacious making it the perfect backdrop for scenic photos or hosting a private event. Johnny was an excellent host, very knowledgeable and personable while guiding us through our tasting. We also got a chance to meet David, the owner, and Maryann who runs their bed and breakfast. The property has a beautiful view of the valley and we were told one of the few locations with this view. All the staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and quite welcoming. The wines on the tasting were quite enjoyable to the point of joining their wine club and taking a bottle of their Zinfandel II Campo home. We had a reservation at another spot but enjoyed the vinyl collection they were playing and they had a song pairing to each pour - cancelled the other place. read more

After visiting another winery nearby, we made a spur-of-the-moment decision to stop here...and it did not disappoint! The property is gorgeous, and the overall vibe is amazing. Our host was fantastic: laid-back, attentive, and incredibly personable. While they don't serve full meals, the wine tasting comes with a nice selection of chips, crackers, and nuts. Because we visited on a Thursday, the atmosphere was perfectly chill, complete with a great soundtrack playing exclusively from vinyl records by Black artists. To top it off, this is a Black-owned winery, and the owner actually came over to introduce himself to us. I highly recommend this spot and can't wait to return soon! read more

This place is truly a hidden gem. The property has incredible views and a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. I loved the unique concept of pairing each wine with music it was such an original touch and really elevated the entire tasting experience. This is exactly how wine tasting should be. They even served a small palate of nuts, goat cheese, and crackers to complement the tasting a thoughtful touch that made the experience feel even more welcoming and complete. As someone who used to thoroughly enjoy visiting Napa, I'm disappointed to say that the level of service at many wineries has declined. Tastings often feel rushed, and it's not uncommon to encounter unfriendly staff. Not here. From the warm hospitality to the beautiful setting and thoughtfully curated experience, everything was exceptional. Such a hidden gem in PR. The drive up to the property was beautiful as well as the view as we weee enjoying the wine. You can sit inside or outside. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the day and the breeze outside. We even saw a lizard. Even sitting outside the service was just as if you were sitting inside. I think most locals are quite aware of this winery as it has been around for quite some time. While their wine tends to be good, most of it, is not my style sadly. Again, Zin forward house with several in the lineup, so be aware of this when visiting. They do have some exclusives of course that are not pushing the Zin craze your way. Their location is stunning, so I will give them that, beautiful views outside of the valley, so it is almost worth it for that alone. Again, wine is not my cup of tea, but I have had a few over the years that I did enjoy bringing to get togethers. When it comes to the staff, they have always been great to deal with, so no issues on that front. Cost wise, expect what you'd normally pay in the valley as most wineries align on pricing based on quality of course. While I'd happily revisit, I feel like there are many other gems in the valley that I'd likely gravitate towards first sadly. read more

My wife and I just returned home from making a pilgrimage to Overshine Winery (formerly Armida). We'd been out many years ago, and wanted to go there again after a more than 20-year hiatus. And it was just as we remembered it-chill, relaxing, and offering great views. Our wine guide for the day was great to talk with, and by going at what might be an "off-time of year", he was able to spend some time with us, and really enjoy a good wine conversation. We went to buy some wine- and we did. Much to our surprise, as we were leaving, we received a present of one of Overshine's Pinot Noir wines! Totally unexpected, and we're so grateful for that gift. This was an unplanned stop en route to the next winery. Luckily the day we went they were having a anniversary event for all the wine club members that we got to be part of. Unlimited wine and a meal. Was so tipsy off the wine forgot to take pics. Poor helper moment. Tried the Chardonnay, then the Pinot noir and Zinfandel (which I think they're known for.). The wine was ok, nothing in particular stood out. But the staff there was wonderful and engaging. Had a friend introduce me to armida. Sampled some of the poizin (zinfandel) and was hooked. Staff are always gracious and super friendly. Incredible views up top of the valley. Bocce court tables. Only downside is they can get super busy and slow service. So if you're in a hurry or on a schedule, factor that in. You'll want to unwind on their patio and relax here. Plenty of parking. After a long day of work and frustrated with traffic back up on hwy 101. We decided to stop in Overshine winery on Whiteside road in Heldsburg. We were amazed at the level of kindness we were met with. Christopher and Donny went above and beyond to help us feel welcome. The wines they recommended was spectacular. The snacks they paired with the wines were delicious, especially the goat cheese. The views of the valley from the winery were second to none. Armida was perfect for our group of 7 girls celebrating a bride-to-be! Reservations were super easy to make (online or over the phone), tasting fees were reasonable, the views were spectacular, and the wine was great! The staff was also so kind and accommodating, and even let us hang out after closing to get in more photos! From the moment we arrived, everything was set up and waiting for us, and the staff was attentive and welcoming the whole time. We had a BLAST drinking, chatting, and taking soooo many pictures! Seriously, the view is just amazing. They also have cute little picnic tables out front that you can hang out in, bring food (we brought a charcuterie board), and just chat and drink the day away. We have been members here for years and don't have any complaints. We accidentally ended up in their other location in Capitola and had a great experience there as well. The wine is excellent with fun bottles and labels, I'm not a zin fan but enjoy their 2016 zin and I love their bubbly. The winery is very nice with a little pond and usually a deck you can sit out on but it's currently under construction. They are dog friendly and usually have a friendly winery cat walking around. read more

Solid pass on this winery - not our jam. Went here on a whim because it was described as family owned/operated and fit into our plans based on their location. We love smaller boutique wineries, but definitely not what this place is. If you like mediocre, budget-friendly, bedazzled skulls wine named names like Poi-Zin then this is your place. Went on a very quiet Monday and did a tasting outdoors. The pours were exceptionally small. The person hosting us was unmemorable, except that after each tiny pour he would disappear for about 20 minutes. Could be understandable if the pours were more than 2 modest sips or if they were busy, but we were the only two people there. read more

When this Winery was Armida it was great. We were members for many years. Their wine maker left a few years ago and the wine they are producing now is no where near as good. Then the owner decided to sell to a Google executive and things went downhill from there. I canceled our membership and asked for my last allotment to be shipped to me. The first box I received was full of Poizin slippers. I let them know that their shipping department had some issues. They then sent the correct box of wine. Today I received yet another box of slippers. This Winery has gone way downhill in my opinion. Why on earth did I get a second box of slippers? I will never patronize them again. read more

The stars were aligned the day we arrived here for our tasting. For one, we did not feel the gouging pain inflicted on our wallet from tasting fees, the most expensive tasting fee (choice of 2) being only $20. That is a rarity for California wine country. Many wineries in the Napa Valley, a close neighbor to Healdsburg, think they are hot stuff and know that people will pay premium for that. Gratefully, Healdsburg is not yet as snobbish as its over-hyped cousins, yet offers some great wines that can trump the competition. We did not feel the pressure of needing an appointment before we dared to cross the threshhold. Another rarity. My Yelpy friend and Healdsburg resident, Steve S, knew we would swoon, he just needed to get us there. Easy to do, he had a twinkle in his eye and a knowing nod when he spoke of Armida. The view alone was seductive, but the wine? Well.... We are big Zinfandel fans. And that is exactly what Armida does best. The Zin tasting menu included 5 wines. Not one was ordinary. I wanted to buy at least one of each, they were all that good, but we ultimately settled on: 2013 Surf Zin (the most moderately priced of the batch at $28), a playfully spicy Zin that I personally enjoyed; 2013 Tina's Block, (2 bottles) a Zin from their Maple Vineyards, Dry Creek Valley, at $40; 2013 Il Campo, (2 bottles) an Estate Field blend that sold for $48; And finally, a lovely 2014 Chardonnay from the Stuhlmuller Vineyard, Alexander Valley, at $40. With fun names, clever packaging (a bottle of their best seller, PoiZin, nestled in a snug wooden casket), a most friendly owner named Bruce who was there sipping his creations and knows he did well with his creative brainstorming on this project, and a most beautiful setting, Armida Winery surpassed my already high expectations. It was impossible to say "no" to our purchases, as well as being irresistable to join the wine club. The Zin tasting fee at $20 was waived for the two of us as well as the $10 fee for our dear guest. I'd have to say they poured some of the finest wines to pass through my lips this trip, and at a reasonable price point I was most willing to pay. read more

Made and paid for reservations 2 months in advance, arrive on time, tasted a rose in a dirty glass while waiting to be seated. Visited yesterday for the barrel tasting weekend. The winery is tucked back into the property with a long single lane road going up to it. You pass a few unnaturally blue ponds on the way up to the tasting room. It was quite chaos there yesterday with so many people tasting a queue of about 20 people that had to be guided in to the barrel room. It was already quite a wait and many of the patrons already seemed overly tipsy. We decided to just not deal with it, didn't care for the vibe and we decided to leave. So many mixed reviews! I actually agree with both sides: The GOOD: The setting was so nice! There is a large patio outside where you can sit & enjoy your wine & take in the beautiful view. It was an awesome day (thank you California weather).The day we went happened to be an event so they were serving food on the patio and the atmosphere was quite lively! My boyfriend (who generally doesn't like wine tasting) said this was his best experience at a winery. Not to mention the wine was very reasonably priced. The BAD: personally i didn't have any run-ins with rude staff members, but the staff was very vocal and seemed to be monitoring the guests very closely. I could see how you could easily get in an altercation with one of them. Also, i honestly didn't like the wine very much :( The other 3 members of my party all thought it was very good, so i guess you will have to judge for yourself!The relatively casual atmosphere was almost too casual. There were some drunk college-aged girls grabbing my friends ass and rubbing his bald head. He didn't seem to mind lol! But maybe if they discouraged this sort of rowdy clientele the staff wouldn't have to act like such douche bags. I like the marketing (brightly colored bottles, creatively named wines and coffin shaped wine boxes) and it seemed to be working - i saw a number if people buying Armida Winery Apparel in the gift shop! Fun, down to earth place where the servers are super friendly and the wines are enjoyable. It's very affordable to make it a stop on your tour, with tasting fees applied to purchases. I know I'm going to disappoint a few, but the Zins are nice but not outstanding as many seem to say. I enjoyed the PoiZin but it's NOT the end-all, be all Zin that it's made out to be. In fact, my husband and I ended up buying a couple bottles of a totally different varietal for a casual dinner. Armida has a nice property, thus the 2nd star. We were greeted ok with a decent white blend and shown to our table. Our server was nice but trying to manage a difficult table and neglected us. We got our 2nd pour after waiting 10-15 minutes without wine. It was a chardonnay that was mediocre at best. 50 minutes into our one hour tasting we had only had 2 pours, and decided their gimmicky $25 poi-zin wasnt worth waiting for. I work in the industry and recognize some things are out of a winery and servers control, but at least acknowledging the guests you have and letting them know you'll be with them soon goes a long way. That and better than grocery store wine would have helped. Maybe the rest of the wine would have been good but Im not worried about needing to find out. read more

Hey, you don't have to be young and stupid to like these wines. You don't have to be acting like fools to visit this tasting room. We went on a Tuesday afternoon and had a most pleasant lunch in their picnic area. Nice and quiet place. Got to meet the winemaker, Brandon. Young guy with a lot imagination with varietals, clearly influenced by his time in Paso Robles. The host for the tasting was a great personality from the Coachella area (well known for its lack of wine industry). He had us laughing for a good 30 minutes as we made our way through the list that day. He was attentive and actually listened to our feedback. We left with a bottle of IL Campo Field Blend (Zin and Petite Sirah). Maybe next time we visit, we will pay for the bottle. :-) 3/2014 update - On a rainy, slow, midweek day at the winery, we did barrel tasting with winemaker, Brandon and chatted with owner, Bruce Cousins. We joined the Wino club, thus being part of 4000 other Armida fans. We bought the 2011 Reserve Zinfandel and 2012 il Campo field blend because we had recently finished our one bottle of the 2010 il Campo and loved it. The selections of wines for their Wino club is definitely a reason to join as those wines are not available to the general public. 3/2016 update - We stop here every year to discover what new things Brandon is offering. The last two visit has revealed a growing amount of Pinot Noir from various vineyards. There was a 2011 Parmelee-Hill Pinot that was special. Our friends loved the Castelli Knight Ranch Pinot recently with a lunch we hosted. Also there was a Bacigalupi Vineyard Pinot from a few years that was exceptional. Now they have a 2013 Gap's Crown Vineyard Pinot which may just be the best ever. Of course the il Campo is still a big favorite of ours. read more
