Oops! My mouth ate before my camera this time! Popcorn chicken with dark meat
    Susan L.

No doubt in response to the large community of Taiwanese now in north Phoenix, Owl Owl Boba Chick is a lovely new addition to the Taiwanese food scene in Phoenix! They've only been open for 5 months and having intelligently kept the menu tight so they can execute every item well. On this visit, we were welcomed with a warm hello! We decided to order the popcorn chicken with Thai basil, Gua Bao (now called Bao Buns on the or newest menu), spicy wontons, and green milk tea w/boba. While we were waiting, a group of Taiwanese customers entered the cafe and their conversation instantly warmed my heart. To hear Taiwanese mandarin like this was not something I had expected when I moved from SoCal to Phoenix 18 years ago. Onto the food: perfect popcorn chicken with DARK meat! Well seasoned, and not overly battered. The Gua Baos were the STARS of this visit. Soft and warm steamed bread encased perfectly braised thick pork belly slices. The addition of pickled veggies and sugared peanut powder told me the owners are DEFINITELY Taiwanese. Every bite was perfectly balanced with salty, sweety, umami flavors. The spicy wontons were good as well, although the skins seemed a little thicker than I am used to. The sauce was garlicky deliciousness. Their green milk tea was flavorful and perfect at 50% sweet, with light ice. The boba was on the larger side and probably had been sitting for a while, as they weren't as chewy they should be. Next time, will try their custard pudding add-on! I'm so happy to have stumbled upon a gathering place for Taiwanese nationals in Phoenix! So grateful for Owl Owl's presence and I hope they continue to expand their menu and keep their standards high. Looking forward to our next visit, where we'll try their heartier fare, like the bowls and beef noodle soup!

I heard about this Taiwanese spot on the west side, Owl Owl Boba x Chick, which has a 4.8 on Google, so I had to check it out. It's a small, cozy place with a fast-food vibe and cute owl decor--seriously, owls everywhere. There are only a few tables, and you order at the counter. I grabbed takeout and got a Citrus Green Tea, Popcorn Chicken, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, and Braised Pork Belly with Rice. The Citrus Green Tea was super refreshing--I liked that you could taste the green tea. The beef noodle soup was good, with chewy noodles and tender beef, though the broth was a little sweeter than I expected. For $14.99, I kinda wished there were more noodles. The braised pork belly was tasty, and the Popcorn Chicken was decent for the price--probably would've been better fresh at the restaurant. The cashier was friendly, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, it's a cool little spot with solid food. I'd definitely go back to try more from their menu!

if you're looking for authentic taiwanese food and great tea in the upper west side, this is the spot for you! we were recommended this place by a taiwanese friend and decided to check it out since we were in the area. there's ample parking, and although the shop itself is quite small, it wasn't busy so we found seats easily. it definitely feels more like a boba shop that happens to sell food, but that's nice and casual. the dumplings were great! i loved the spicy marinade, and you could tell the dough was handmade. the soup was delightful- tender beef with perfectly crisp bok choy, and a mild soup base that brought the whole thing together. the food came out super quick and tasted fresh. to me, the tea was the star of the meal (although i am definitely biased because i love a yummy bev), it was not too sweet, and honestly the perfect amount of tart! 10/10 experience here and i am so glad i was recommended it!

Had a Thai tea & brown sugar milk tea and they were soooooo good the boba was the perfect texture and the drinks were the perfect amount of sweetness, and the music the shop played was top tier Chill atmosphere.

Brother Wen (owner) decorated the place nicely and tonight the restaurant was packed with people! There was red everywhere! Food tonight was special for Lunar New Year and the sesame oil chicken soup was set up for each table! This is one of the dishes they excel at and you have to call ahead a few days to have this dish ready when you come. We also had Chinese sea bass tonight and that is one of my favorite Chinese dishes. I love fresh fish cooked well and this place does a really great job! We also tonight had Buddha Jumping Over Wall dish and I enjoyed the many Chinese veggies in the dish including bamboo shoots. There was also a nice sautéed cauliflower dish, just like the way my mom cooks it. I even tonight for special occasion had a Taiwan beer, it's been a long time since I had one and being in a Taiwanese restaurant, it felt appropriate. A really fun evening tonight and Brother Wen even went around to every table to wish everyone a very Happy Lunar New Year! I just wished we had gotten the karaoke machine going, that would have been so much fun! Happy Lunar New Year of the Snake. May you have good health, wealth and happiness (and yummy food in your tummy)!

You walk in get seated. Then that is really the last time you talk to someone. You scan the menu and order from your phone. I think this cuts out any confusion. You then have someone bring your food and drinks to your table. They do walk around and offer your more broth as there is a lot of food in those bowls. And when you add the dry noodles you need more broth. I think that is cool. They do drop off the check midway through. It does get busy around 7pm we got there just before 6 so got in no problem.

When we got a table, we ordered using the QR code. It took a bit of time for our food and drinks to come. But the spot was pretty busy. Only saw the server when they brought our drink and our food, and when we ordered additional drinks. This is not like the typically hot pot spots where they bring you the broth and meats/veggies separately to cook yourself. You pick a "soup" premade and it comes to your table in a hot clay pot. It's a bit heavier broth. Definitely not what my taste buds enjoy. However my husband liked it. I don't think I'll dine here again only because I prefer the cook myself experience, simple ingredients, and lighter broth.

Most of the drinks are not very good, especially for how overpriced everything is. I have recommended this place to others, and they have said the same thing. Many of them chose not to return. The biggest issue is the service. It is consistently unprofessional. There have been times where I was the only person waiting, and it still took a long time just to order because the worker stayed in the back and only came out when he felt like it. On multiple visits, the worker has also sighed heavily, taken a deep breath, and rolled his eyes while I was ordering, even when the order was simple. Other people I know have experienced the same thing. It creates an uncomfortable environment and makes customers feel like an inconvenience just for ordering. The wait times are excessive. It can take up to 30 minutes just to place an order and close to an hour to receive a drink. Having only one person running the shop is clearly not working. At this point, the pricing, service, and wait times do not match the experience being provided. After multiple visits, nothing has improved, and there is no reason to continue coming back.

If you enjoyed the Chimoy trend you may enjoy this! It was not for me, the balance between spicy, savory, and sweet was off. The restaurant was average! Great to pickup a quick treat but the design is basic. Plenty of seating, but not somewhere I'd stay for long. All in all, I'd come back to try more drinks they look cool for sure, but the customer service needs work and the design of the restaurant is up to the creativity of the owners.

A few people were dining in when I stopped by and I was greeted by a friendly young employee. Initially, I was just going to get a drink but I perused the menu and decided to get an appetizer as a late lunch/dinner. I ordered their Goi Cuon Tom Thit Nuong - Grilled Pork & Shrimp Spring Rolls (2): fresh vegetables, rice vermicelli, grilled pork & shrimp wrapped in rice paper & served with peanut sauce ($6). HOWEVER, since I do not eat pork, I asked if they could only include the shrimp and leave out the pork, and that wasn't a problem at all. Score! For my drink, I went with a classic black milk tea with boba, light ice. I asked about adjusting the sweetness level, and she said they could do more black tea than half & half, and I said that would be good. Price for the drink was $6.50 for a large, and I think the boba was included but otherwise it was $0.50. It didn't take long for my items to be ready and I was on my way. My rolls were packaged nicely and they even included hot sauce in addition to the peanut sauce that comes with. The rolls were delicious; they were a good size and tasted light and refreshing. I loved the peanut sauce and the hot sauce, the latter of which had a nice sour zing to it. My drink was good; it was on the sweeter side but the boba was cooked nicely. I did get some black tea leaves which I wasn't expecting, but at least I know they use real tea and nothing powdered. Great customer service and tasty food and drink items, I'd recommend this spot.
