I ordered a steak pho for pick up, and asked to make it large as I was sharing with my daughter. The server told me they don't make large sizes to go, but I could add on extra beef and noodles. He also never mentioned the price (he just told me it'd be ready in 10minutes). I said okay, and when I went to pick it up (thinking there'd be a small up charge), they charged me $24.75 (the price of two entire pho bowls, but only the broth for one). I think it would've made more sense for them to either package another container with broth, or mention that adding extra beef & noodles would be the same price and 2 entrees. The food is usually excellent, and that's why we keep coming back. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was disappointing due to the service. The server wearing the black mask was very rude and made us feel unwelcome throughout our meal. At one point, it seemed like she wanted us to be kicked out rather than helping resolve the situation. Customer service is just as important as the food, and this experience left a negative impression on our visit. So i had to come back to update my review because today i went inside and sat down to dine in and i must say i was a little disappointed. The first thing that i noticed as soon as we sat down and received our menus was that there was a big price difference in the prices that was shown on the online menu to the price that they are currently charging. Ex. The dumplings said $3.99 online , in store they were $8. Most of there drinks were high prices to me ( with a big emphasis on the me part ) they were mostly $7 but i will say they do have tea or soda for cheaper. Now for the food and maybe it is because i have since been to pho 43 going back here and tasting their broth it was very bland. I usually get a large bowl so me and my little one can share but they only had one size pho bowl. They gave very little veggies, had to ask for cilantro which has been a very common veggie that comes with the pho soup bowls. As well as they were very skimpy with the meat. I ordered a number 1 which comes with all 4 meats, i did ask for no meat balls but even if i had them it would not have changed the small amount of the other meat that comes with it. I don't like to take stars away but i do feel the need to be honest because for a person like me that base where i eat very much on the honesty of the reviews that come from my fellow reviewers. The service was ok she was nice but not too attentive so if we needed something we had to call her. The ambiance, well there really wasn't one to me. The humble interior is just like one of the Vietnamese restaurants I went to growing up. You know the food is going to be good and authentic! I've eaten at almost every pho place in Phoenix. This by far has the best pho. This place is my 92-year-old Vietnamese grandma's favorite place for Pho as well. Super flavorful and actually uses the thinly sliced ribeye instead of thick chewy pieces of meat. My personal favorite is the stir fried thinly sliced beef with lemon grass. We had been passing through this restaurant on 43rd many times a week for over two years. The signage used to be all in red but recently they updated the restaurant sign. It has about 5-6 booths and plenty of tables, looks clean inside. When we walked in, the place was not busy around 1pm , there were only 2 customers inside which was better for us and the environment was more relaxed. A lady seated us who I assumed was the owner and took our orders, there was a young man in the register whom we taught was the son served our food later. Seems to me it is a family run business. After 10-15mins our delicious looking and tasty food came; it tasted authentic to us and we will definitely come back. The price was reasonable for the amount of food that we got. Everyone in my crew liked their food. Overall, the service is great. The man owner who we think was the cook even came out later. My youngest asked him why the name UK and the owner shared a short story about the place UK definitely does not mean "United Kingdom " instead it was the husband and wife's initials for their first name and that the restaurant's name used to be long, they decided to cut it shorter We gave it a 4 stars coz we think the bathroom and the curtains in the front window needs some updating. Instead of beef I got shrimp (blanched unseasoned) which my husband ate since I have a mild shellfish allergy and he said they tasted off. Excellent pho! Probably one of the best broths I have had in Phoenix. Loved the banh mi and their overall menu is pretty extensive. It's a tiny spot that's easy to pass but definitely worth a trip. Portions are a good size and they give a good amount of veggies with the pho which is nice. I wasn't crazy about their cha gio but since that was my grandpa's speciality item I tend to be really picky about them. They weren't terrible but definitely not the best. The seat kinda have oil on it and all the bottle of sauce feels sticky. We ordered the egg rolls, bun thit nuong cha gio and mi kho. I've never seen bun thit nuong cha gio have more veggies than noodles. I feel like I just eat a bunch of veggies and I got sick of it. The meat was ok, lack of seasoning and I feel that the egg rolls have no meat in it besides carrots and noodles. The mi kho looks good when she brought it out but it tasted bland. Overall, I think the presentation of the dish looks good for pictures but the food and the restaurant need some work. I won't come back again because it doesn't make us feel welcome. read more
