The guy at the front desk was friendly and efficient. Then I got to the room. At first glance looked OK. But the details are the story. In the bathroom the toilet seat lid was up. The wallpaper was peeling from the wall near the tub. The tub had rust (?) stains covering the bottom. Each pillow on the bed was a different lumpy shape. (I ended up getting a blanket from my car and sleeping under that.) I couldn't get the refrigerator door open. So jammed shut it almost tipped over the cabinet it was in. There is a desk facing the bed, the side of the desk was covered in some sort of splatter. On the desk top were oily palm prints. I always carry Clorox wipes, so because I was tired and didn't want to go through the hassle of changing rooms, I wiped down the surfaces myself. Yeah I should have complained, but...On the plus side it was quiet, and the breakfast was delicious.

This hotel was fantastic! Besides the small garage which obviously fills up quickly for hotel guests, we have no complaints. First off, the hotel staff could not be friendlier. Although we did not have the best first impression with the lack of parking, it had nothing to do with the staff or actual lodging. We were warmly welcomed and were told all the important deets of our stay. At the hotel lobby is free Caffe Vita coffee and Smith tea for guests, along with filtered water. Heck yeah! They also have this really good coffee and tea in the hotel room, which was a win because we're a fan of both of these products from the Pacific Northwest! We had a room with a king size bed and it was very large and spacious. When booking, we also specifically looked for a dog-friendly hotel in the area, which Hotel Leo is. So yes, an automatic win. We saw a bunch of doggy guests here, and they have a designated dog relief area with poop bags. We had everything we needed, including AC and WiFi. The location cannot be beat as we were walking distance to everything being in downtown Bellingham, and it made for a great base for when we hiked around the area. I also love the historic building, and they show the old photos of the hotel when it first opened in the lobby. I highly recommend staying at Hotel Leo if you're in need of accommodations in Bellingham.

The shower head is also low. A handheld would make things easier. Wi-Fi and tv worked well. More than enough hangars. Soap, conditioner and shampoo dispensers. I usually loathe these things, but they were very lightly scented and seemed to be a good product. Good ice machine. Coin Op washer/dryer available. A small notepad and pen would have been appreciated and would be a small expenditure but a good reminder to use and take home. We were half a mile from the marina and the BC Border. We won't hesitate to stay here again.
