Nice small restaurant with friendly service. The Don Katsu was huge and sauce on it was delicious!

Bap Zip by Piggy's has been open for a while now, but this was my first time visiting. We stopped by around 5:45 p.m. as a group of four and were actually the first dine-in guests of the evening, though the kitchen was already busy preparing a takeout order. We were greeted immediately and seated at a table that was already set with cutlery and napkins, then offered both tea and water. They provide one physical menu per table, but there are also QR codes if you prefer viewing the menu digitally. Just a heads-up that the QR code is for browsing only, not online ordering. We ended up ordering the King Katsu, Rose Tteokbokki, Eggplant Dolsot, and a coffee. The King Katsu was absolutely massive, yet pounded thin enough to stay tender, with a beautifully light and flaky crust. The Rose Tteokbokki had the perfect level of spice balanced by a distinct sweetness. I would have loved to add cheese, but the $5.50 surcharge felt difficult to justify. The Eggplant Dolsot was another enjoyable dish, and the $3 coffee surprisingly reminded me of dalgona coffee, being bold, creamy, and quite sweet, like a dessert to finish off the meal. The restaurant itself has a unique, modern aesthetic that makes the space feel warm and inviting. The staff were friendly throughout our visit and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. As a nice bonus, they offer a 5% discount when paying with cash. Overall, the prices are on the higher end for Korean food, but the generous portions, quality dishes, and pleasant dining experience made it an enjoyable visit. read more

Went for lunch around an hour after their open time and got seated right away. It is not a large restaurant though (can seat maybe 24 depending on group sizes). Since the weather was so warm, we wanted something refreshing and not too heavy, so ordered 물냉면 (Cold Noodles) and 산채비빔밥 (Wild Vegetable Bibimbap). Each of our dishes came with their own servings of 반찬 (banchan side dishes): 잡채 japchae noodles, 깍두기 kkakdugi diced radish kimchi, and cabbage salad. Both mains tasted exactly how we were expected them to, neither with overpowering flavours, saltiness -- balanced well. Server came around mid-meal to ask if everything was good and if we needed any refills of the banchan. There's a 5% discount if you pay with cash, but they do accept card payment as well. Parking spot was very easy to find at that time, but even if at a busier time, you can still find parking in the plaza. read more

Korean food that warms the soul. We were excited to visit Bap.Zip in Richmond Hill on a frigid cold day. They feature a simple menu of typical Korean food from hot soup to bibimbap, Korean fried chicken and charcoal grill. The shared meal options are a bit limited but each individual portion comes with a set of different banchan side dishes on a meal tray. The flavours were a tad mild in the donkatsu and the potato in pork bone soup, in contrast to the in-you-face seasoning that I'm used to in Korean food. Pork bone soup ($19.50) was piled high with a sizzling hot broth and 3 sides that surprisingly didn't include kimchi cabbage. King donkatsu ($23.50) featured fried pork cutlet in a truly huge wingspan topped with an aromatic curry sauce; a portion that was enough for two meals. Since one menu item is required per guest, we also had the Kids Special ($14.50) with katsu & bulgogi served in a fun toy car. The dining interior vibes were decent with tables spaced out along each side wall. But the corridor to the restroom and the rooms themselves were messy and dirty which detract from the vibes. Service was friendly with occasional follow-ups and the place got busy during the latter part of our weekend lunch meal. Skip it or hit it? It's good Korean fare in the area. Just note pricing is higher than I'm used to elsewhere albeit with good portions that made up for it. read more

The perfect soup on a super chilly day! We got the hangover soup (my go-to) and blood sausage soup, along with the pork tonkatsu and fried rice cake appetizers. Both soup were piking hot, so it was extra soothing for the winter weather. The tonkatsu came with an apple sauce? and the rice cake was chewy topped with a sweet and spicy sauce. Service was great and the side dishes were so delicious especially the eggplants. They take card, but cash discount is 5%. read more

It gets busy here at dinnertime as the restaurant is not that big. The food is pretty good and the portions are generous. The dolsot bibimbaps seem to be the most popular items here, but my favourite part is actually that they have a mini size option for their fried chicken. The green onion chicken is yummy! Their "spicy" items are actually quite mild and I would say more on the sweet side, which is good for sensitive stomachs but some people may prefer more heat. Overall would recommend :) read more

Good food with cozy pub vibes Atmosphere: The restaurant is quite small, with a few rows of tables along either end, and a few tables in the middle. It's decorated like a bar or pub, with a darker interior and is good for small groups, and is very casual. Food: The portion was a bit on the smaller side given the price, especially for the Korean glass noodles. The flavour was very nice, with it being on the sweeter side. The traditional dolsot was made with fresh ingredients and was very colourful, tasting as it should. The dumplings lacked on flavour, and relied heavily on the sauce which was still quite mild (imparting them with a hint of spice). The fried chicken was very nicely done, with a crispy batter and a lot of green onion on top to brighten up the dish, and you could tell the oil was hot and fresh as well. Would have loved to see larger portions for the sides and the banchan that is served typically at other Korean restaurants with the meal. Service: The server was very friendly and the food came fairly quickly, with the Korean glass noodles coming first and everything else following together. They were out of the way unless you asked for something and required their attention. Came here on a Friday evening a group of 3. Dinner time was busy with a small wait at the door (but moves fast). Tucked away in small plaza, this Korean restaurant serves up some authentic Korean food. Come check it out! Food- ordered ttebbokki & some soy garlic KFC. For 3 people, we were stuffed. The KFC was yummy and hit the spot. We even went home with leftovers and more!! The chicken was yummy, crispy, meaty, sauce was flavourful, subtle, sweet and umami and so so worth it. Overall would come back and bring perhaps an extra body or two to finish the chicken, or .... Simply have takeout as well. New location for Bap.Zip 2 in Richmond hill. It is a cozy place with limited seating space, bigger groups recommend to call ahead to reserve. The menu items are not too many, easier for someone like me to make decisions. They offer very good small side dishes, including cabbage salad, which is very fresh. A small but busy place for Korean fried chicken, stone pot rice and pork cutlet The stone pot rice with beef $23 is our favorite, the beef is so tender and tasty No 2 on the menu us the one with eggplant at $19, a little spicy though. The pork cutlet king $23 is huge with 3 big pieces which feed three people. Their fried chicken is juicy and flavorful as well. We always order the 7 pieces with green onion, very consistent and solid every time. The space is very small, can fit in 8-9 tables, so get there early to avoid line up. The atmosphere is like small bar, with open kitchen, very welcoming and upscale. The service is good, but can be more consistent. My friends and I came for dinner on a Friday night around 7:30pm and were seated right away. Bap Zip took over this space from Hoolala Chicken so you can still see remnants of Hoolala's interior and details. I suspect this may been a rebrand over new owners. We were given cold water and hot barley tea when seated. Our servers were nice and checked in on us throughout the night. What we got: - Spicy Squid Bibimbap - Soy Shrimp Bibimbap - Seafood Soft Tofu Stew - Special Sauce Small Fried Chicken - Green Onion Small Fried Chicken Final thoughts: Each of our entrees came with some side dishes (black sesame salad, radish kimchi, seaweed salad). The bibimbaps came with some soup and my stew had a raw egg for you to crack into the boiling soup. The soy shrimp was not for me, but my friend enjoyed it. It's my first time here. Upon arrival, wonderful servers greeted us and food came out in a very timely manner. The interior is so comfortable, and the lighting is warm and great. Bap zip or should I say, Bap Sip 2 (because they have Bap Zip 1 in North York), is a Korean restaurant that replaced the previous tenant Hoolala chicken. I'm really not sure whether it got replaced or rebranded since the wifi of the current restaurant still says Hoolala. Regardless of which way things swung, all I can tell you is the dining experience got worst. The ambience at Hoolala used to have a young and upbeat vibe. Now, it's just a typical place where they try to be a bit cute with a few cartoon pig stickers. Food wise, nothing really stuck out. For example the pork bone soup , the quality of meat/bones was meh.... But my biggest problem with the business was their lack of follow through and there seems to be some attempt to shortchange the customers. For example, my kids ordered items off of the kids menu which promised a soup and a drink. The soup never came and only when we asked them towards the end of the meal, they mentioned how they are no longer including the soup. If that were the case, wipe that off the menu. No apology was provided. To compound the problem, the cup of apple juice was contained in a kids IKEA cup that was only half filled. I understand that they may not want to fill it up to the brim since kids are generally accident prone, but half? If this is how they treat their customers then I can generally see their mentality towards the ingredients they use in their food and how much (or the lack there of) care they put in making their food. I have no desire to try Bap Zip one nor return to Bap Zip two. read more

This restaurant replaced the now-closed Hoolala Chicken. They use the same phone number, too. I know because I called Hoolala Chicken and the person said they're Bap.zip. Anyway, found out Bap.zip had another location in Thornhill with good reviews so I felt it trustworthy enough to give this place a try. I must say, their fried chicken is super juicy, crispy, and delicious. One of the best in RH. I want to come back again for it. The restaurant itself is aesthetically pleasing.
