I had just bought a 1979 C3 Corvette and needed to get the carb tuned and rebuilt to pass smog. They took my car in same day whilst busy. Finished the rebuild and got it back to my a couple hours later. He didn't have to fit me in and get me back on the road. He chose to help me and fit me into there busy schedule for the day. I have never been here before, but they earned new business from me. I work on cars myself but don't have the time with my work schedule. He did a great job and price was fair. I brought in a carb to be sand blasted and he said he could do that. He was high on his price but said he would do a very nice job. When I picked it up, it was the worst job I'd ever seen, dirty marks everywhere, places he didn't blast to clean, even some grease on the bottom. Just a quicky job, nothing like he said he would do, so he's a liar. He didn't care because when I said something about it, he said pay the man and walked away. Why he did this, I don't know, but I would never go back to have him work on anything of mine. I wonder, they work on cars too????? I've been coming to P&J since 2005. They've serviced 6 different cars I've owned. They're reliable and honest but not the cheapest. He won't start doing anything to the cars until you agree with what is agreed upon, which I appreciate. The only thing is that I don't like he's hours of operation but he'll work something out if you can't make it. Highly recommend this shop. read more

I highly recommend. I was having problems with a car and took it to P& J for a second opinion. Fred's Automotive just did not seem to be able to fix the problem. Instead of doing work and charging me, Pete told me to take it back to Fred's because the problem part was under warranty. This happened a few times with Fred's. I greatly appreciate their honesty. He could have done some work and charged me. I never did get Fred's to fix the warranty problem. My mom bought my daughter another car as an early graduation present. I eventually sold the car. I when to p&j to get my carburetor adjusted and fix the timing, i spoke to Pete and he said he will take care of it , well that when south, as he was adjusting the distributor he advanced it so much that my rocker arms broke 3 studs and bend 3 pushrods, he never admitted it was his fault He just said ill charged me $ 600 to fix the problem After he fix the problem 2 of the pushrod bend on the other side now and it looked like he did it on purpose because theres no way that that could of happened while the truck was idling, this guy Pete just wanted more money but after i told him i had NO MORE MONEY TO GIVE HIM he put the truck back together and left 3 of my valves loose so that i had problems down the road ‍ i can't believe this guy, SO DONT GO TO P&J automotive read more

Pete the owner took my phone call and gave me multiple options. I opted to take my carb in for them to rebuild. It was rebuilt in 4 hours and I had it installed. Them took it back for an adjustment. I absolutely hate taking my cars to a mechanic. Its the absolute last thing ill do. This is the only shop Ill recommend to anyone. The guys know their carbs! He always makes the most efficient recommendations, not just the cheapest. Ive been there three times for three cars and always left happy. Oh and they are fast! To the previous review that said PJ couldnt guarantee he would pass smog, nobody can, and if they do they are trying to just get your service or they have a smog hook up. You shouldnt give a bad review if you dont know what your talking about. There are so many other factors that affect you ability to pass smog besides a good running carb. read more

I took my 64 Impala in to have my rear brakes worked on. My worst nightmare. They had my car for almost a week and a half. My husband did the running around to get the parts that were needed. They broke my knock off from my rims because they couldn't take off my cap. Than they finally finished my car and when it came to paying I asked for a warranty and the owner stated that there was no warranty in the karts my husband picked up because that was their policy. Well that didn't sit well. So than they give me this outrageous amount that I needed to pay. I said wait I payed for the parts and now it's almost 750 for labor. Than he says ok give me 620 fir the work. There is nothing posted stating the hourly rate for labor. Than he Aude I wS complaining he says here's your money. I did t want the money I was just not happy on what he charged. Than I take my car home and tell me why I took it out for a drive and it kept locking up on me. My husband calls and lets them know whAt is going on and they say they have no room to check it. When my car was brought home after them having it I notice a dent on the drivers side rear fender near where they were working. Of course they denied it and hung up on me. Well to tell you I had 2 different guys check the car and what was it that they found. Well one my brake lines were barely hanging on which was what they worked on. 2 my back brakes were never adjusted I wAx driving my car with solely front brakes and therefore that is why my brakes kept locking up. Brought my Dodge van here to get my carb rebuilt because of an engine miss. He gives it back saying theres still a miss. I go home and find he didnt plug any vacuum lines back in. I hooked them up and it smoothed out but still missing. I took it to Craigs and the found out the carburetor will not adjust on one side and thats the source of the problem. I don't really blame the others for inaccurate reviews, not everyone knows about what a great mechanic does. I went there today to get an estimate on my carburetor being adjusted, guy told me it needed to be rebuilt without even looking at it. Told me $50 to test and $290 for rebuild, and the $50 wouldn't go towards the price, horrible pricing. He also told me he could not guarantee his work being able to help me pass smog. These guys always think all young kids don't know what's up, but I do and I know that's a burn. I'm now at carburetor center on peck rd and they're taking great care of me. $65 for adjustment and they have test machines for carbon and oxygen levels. They know they're stuff and how to maintain a great business. This place is a waste of time. If you want to be taken care of don't go here. read more

Had to go in to get my carb rebuilt and I was dreading going to a new mechanic. Pulled into a typical hole-in-the-wall mechanic shop with a crowded and tiny parking lot and 2 of the guys here greeted me and one walked with me to the counter. Gave me an upfront quote (which was exactly how much I paid at the end, no surprises!!) and told me how long (they said 5 hrs, finished in 4). I also got a call from them alerting me that my belts needed replaced (which they actually did, they saved the parts to prove they were bad!) and they did it all for a great price! It's not often I've found a competent AND honest mechanic shop. But here one is. They've got a customer as long as their doors stay open! read more

If I could give a zero minus I would. These guys rebuilt the master cylinder on our 51 Chevy & put a different bolt on the pedal & it was too short. We went for a Sunday cruise down Whittier Blvd when the brake pedal became loose, we couldn't stop & almost hit 2 pedestrians. Had to have the car towed to a friend's house, when I confronted Pete he acted very sincere & stated he used the same bolt that was already there... BIG FAT LIE THE BOLT THAT WAS PLACED BY THEM WAS BRAND NEW.. I hope this place gets what they have coming to them. Lucky for them we didn't hit those pedestrians.. BIG FAT LAWSUIT read more

Pete and Joel are not only the kindest people I have come across but very good at what they do. They are very honest and fair. This is a fantastic shop. I have an old car with dual carburetors that are very difficult to tune and balance. Other shops I had been to needed the manual for the car. When I spoke to one of the owners (P and J stands for Pete and Joel) he knew what was under the hood of my car without even opening it. The car runs better now than it has in years. If your anything like me, you don't jump for joy, when the D.M.V wants your vehicle smog tested. Why, because my 1983 vehicle has that evil invention known as a carburetor, and it never passes the smog test. But thanks to P&J Carburetor they made the process easy. The first thing you do, if you have a vehicle with a carburetor, and you don't think it will pass the smog test, is take the vehicle to a smog test only station, and have the vehicle tested only, then if it fails, you won't be labeled a gross polluter, by the D.M.V. Then take the test results and the vehicle to P&J Carburetor, they analyze the test results and fix the problem, which 9 out of 10 times is the carburetor. Also out of the many auto repair shops in LA County, that I have gone to, P&J Carburetor gets 5 stars. read more
