This Thai place was recommended to me by several people. It's got good vibes and the staff is friendly. There could be a wait. The menu is a little different than a traditional Thai place. It's got some interesting choices. We couldn't decide, so we did the chef's menu. It might have had a different name, but essentially we got a few different dishes in a set. There was a noodle dish and rice dish, along with a few other items. All of the items were tasty and complex. It was a perfect amount for the three of us. Overall, we were happy with the meal. The wings were an umami explosion in the mouth so we had to order another one! The ambiance was very casual and quite loud so I had to speak pretty loudly to order our food. Every dish was tasty and packed with flavor but I particularly liked the steak salad and crab fried rice. I crab fried rice was very, very fragrant not like anywhere else I've had it before. The steak salad had a good combo of sweet, spicy, savory and umami flavor from the fish sauce. The papaya salad was ok, but I've had better. Eggplant was pretty average as well. The pork jowl was very tender and the dipping sauce was delicious. There are a couple of things to be aware of though. Once you sit down, you only have your table for 90 mins and it's street parking only so very busy on the weekends. I don't think we will come back. We went on a Saturday night around 6-6:30PM. We were sat outside and it took 15 minutes for the waiter to greet us, the waiter was pleasant. We placed an order for two drinks, an appetizer and our two entrees all at the same time given how long it took the server to greet us. No words can express how AMAZING this place is. We stumbled on Paadee looking for Thai in/around Portland. From the moment we walked in, for some reason I was happy. Can't explain it and not being dramatic lol. The service, 10 /10, the food, sigh...10/10, atmosphere, 10/10 and Mai 11/10. She is great at drink recommendations based on what you like and is so knowledgeable about the menu. This place nails everything. Service, flavor, freshness and quality. Severely disappointed. Ordered a noodle soup and it came with ramen style type noodles. I almost thought I was in a Japanese restaurant. Had a soft boiled egg with that and it was more on the raw side. Kinda tasted how bleach smells. Ordered another dish that was sickingly sweet. Thai tea was meh. Very diluted. Service was alright. The Vegan Massaman Curry was absolutely amazing and a must try. It is unique and very flavorful - you really don't feel like you're missing out on anything being a Vegan Dish and definitely worth the experience. The Pad Thai wasn't bad, but it lacked the tamarind/semi-sweet aftermath that you'd expect from a traditional Pad Thai. The spice for both were mild. They don't allow you to increase the spice level and even charged for Sambaal and Chili oil, which I've not seen a Thai restaurant do before. They also lack other pure vegetarian and vegan options. All the other curries come with fish sauce that they're not able to remove, and same for most of the other dishes. Even with this in mind, the Massaman curry was an absolute savior and if you are looking to try something this is definitely the one. read more

There was the right tang of sourness for the flavor. Our server was such a sweet person. This place left me my first positive memory of Portland, Oregon. Paadee reliably provides delicious Thai food in an upscale atmosphere. The flavors excite, the service delights, and the drinks--with or without alcohol--are outta sight! Rhyming aside, Paadee is an absolute gem of a place if you're looking for a fancier Thai food experience than many others in town. Don't get me wrong: I also love some of the more casual Thai places in town (of which there are tons), but sometimes I want to be a little more elegant and have some excellent specialty drinks, too, and this is a fabulous place to do that. They have a lot of gluten-free, vegan, non-dairy, etc. options (including desserts which is a rare treat), so don't be afraid to bring your fancy friends with dietary restrictions. You'll all have a special meal here. I've tried quite a bit of the menu over several visits and I haven't had a single thing that fell short of awesome. Everything is always cooked perfectly: impeccable crisp cod in the Black Cod Curry; the pork belly in the Muu Grob is somehow both beautifully crunchy and melt-in-your-mouth smooth; the curries are an explosion of complex and fantastic flavors. My only warning is that I'm not the only one who knows how good this place is, so it's a good idea to make a reservation, or you might end up waiting for a table, especially at peak times. But even if you don't have a reservation, I promise it will be worth the wait. read more

Went here for the first time and will definitely come back again! The whole restaurant was furnished and decorated so nicely with a lovely ambiance. We ordered cocktails and they were presented so nicely and tasted good. We ordered 3 types of curry dishes and they were all so delicious! The pork belly fried rice is a must try. We were a party of 4 (may have ordered too many food) but at one point we were needing to hold our rice bowls while eating since the table was too small. I know Portland has some amazing food, but the more spots like Paadee I try, the more depressed I become about not living in Portland. Paadee is another delightful dining experience on 28th Ave where the staff know you are about to be viciously assaulted with flavor and good service yet give no warnings and look at you with a compassionate and completely unapologetic stare as you experience the next dimension of flavor and question if you really ever truly been happy before. The Kanom Gui Chai are a bold mix of textures that are more stimulating to the human brain than trying to visually conceptualize the fourth dimension by staring at a tesseract. Crispy with a gooey interior that I mistook for cheese at first because of how creamy and gooey it was. Do not even get me started on the sauce they ladle over the top making every bite a deadly umami bomb that will leave you questioning whatever higher power you believe in. The duck curry is not spicy, but may give an untrained palate the illusion of spicy due to the amount of flavor they have developed in this curry from the wizards in the kitchen. All while maintaining a beautiful aroma of duck that does not get lost, but even if you do loose it there is a giant duck leg that is cooked to perfection that you can eat to have moments of beautiful fatty, meaty, gaminess that all well prepared duck should have. The Gai Grop Sam Yan is an experience that one needs to prepare for through intense meditation beforehand. Crispy and ever so slightly sweet, with spice and a beautiful hint of cashew in the sauce that reminds you these pieces of chicken and cashew did not shower after their amazing wok orgy that I only wish I could have experienced with them. Love was made here this wasn't at all a pure pleasure wok orgy, but you can tell they started to fall in love with one another through the process. The papaya salad is delightfully refreshing acting as a wonderful palate cleanser to have between each dish. Crunchy, slightly sweet, slightly sour, with a hint of acidity from the lime. The satay chicken and pickled veggies are delicious, so too is the jasmine rice and sticky rice they serve with the main courses. If you are reading slowly starting to ask "geez did this person eat everything on the menu?" I would like to remind you to mind your own business. The pork belly fried rice was incredible with a great pork flavor throughout the rice which I assume they got through using the fat from the pork belly to cook the rice in. Lastly the Pad See Ew, which might garner some Ewwwws from those who have a problem with vegetables, but do not judge based on appearances you a$$. The Chinese broccoli is cooked beautifully and the stems are crunchy yet not tough, which to be honest, I'm still perplexed on how they were able to do that. It's the equivalent of trying to remain loose and tight at the same time, like what people yell at me every time I go snowboarding and right before I face plant on the slope. Food was really delicious and unique from all other Thai I've ever had, and I've had A LOT- in the US and in Thailand. I didn't have to ask for my food at a certain spice level because they brought sauces and chiles with each dish so you can spice it up how you want. We had the Khao Soi and it was probably the best I've ever had. We also had the Red Crab Fried Rice and it was super tasty with large chunks of fresh crab and a delectable sauce on the side. I love Paadee. I've never had a bad meal or experience here. It's a great go to if you're going to see a movie at laurelhurst or just want some tasty quick Thai food in the area. Their drink menu is lovely. Service is always very friendly and helpful. Inside is lovely and they have outdoor seating most of the year as well. I typically get a noodle dish (pad see ew, pad Thai, Khao soi, etc) but I've tried several of their appetizers (papaya salad, chicken wings, laab, satay) as well. Paadee was one of our favorite restaurants that we were able to eat dinner at as we visited Portland by way of Austin, TX. Did you know that "paa dee" means to "bring good things" and is a famous Thai phrase? The food, the service, and the ambiance continually did that - it brought many good things to our bellies and our taste buds! We started with the chicken satay on a stick under the menu items of "Snacks" and it did not disappoint. The peanut curry dipping sauce was delicious and started out of meal on a perfect note. Since it was a little chilly, at least for us Texans in September, we followed up with a Tom Kha Gai soup that rounded out our palettes with the added in makrut lime flavored leaves and the delicious and tender mushrooms and chicken. When we saw Paadee offered Dungeness crab fried rice we had to order it! They give you a large portion where I was able to take some back to our spot and have for a late snack later. It was too good to leave behind. For our main meal we ended up getting Pad See Ew with chicken which was tasty as heck! The fact that they have a gluten-free option for their noodles was great to read on the menu. We ended up being super full by the time our entrée came out! We opted to sit inside since the ambiance and the mood lighting really called my name. I love all of the REAL and healthy plants around the dining areas. It really made me feel like I was visiting someone's home. The outside seating is also cute as well and have separated partitions for COVID safety and privacy. Mixed feelings would be the summary of my experience here the other day. First off, the ambiance. Very very cute place but we opted to sit inside because of how cold it was outside only to find out that they had their windows open. We were first sat at a booth next to the window but it was freezing so we asked to be moved. When we moved, we noticed the amount of flies coming in from the open window and getting near our food. We had to ask them to close the window, they did but why they thought it was appropriate to keep the window open at 47 degrees is beyond me especially without a screen to keep bugs away from their food establishment.. Now the food. We ordered quite a bit of variety here. We got Thai Iced Tea, chicken wings with the tamarind on the side, papaya salad, Pad Se Ew and the Green Chicken curry. Thai Iced Tea had wonderful taste but they pretty much gave us a cup of ice with about 4oz of liquid. If you look at my picture, the ice goes from the bottom of the cup to the top of the tea. We felt ripped off. Chicken wings were good. We opted to get the tamarind sauce on the side and it's a good thing. We dipped the wings in the sauce and it was extremely sour and salty. I usually like tamarind flavored things but it seemed like too much? Papaya Salad was a favorite for my mom. I'm allergic to shrimp so I only tried the papaya and just note, it is SPICY. Pad Se Ew was my favorite of the night! Full of veggies and the noodles were cooked perfectly. Loved every bite of it. Green Curry was also very very spicy! We like spice so we could handle it but it's good to warn others who may not be. The curry had excellent flavor, chicken was moist and the rice that accompanied it was the right portion. All in all, I would say this place was an average thai restaurant but with hipster vibe pricing. I likely wouldn't come here again but I wouldn't deter anyone from coming. I loved my visit to Paadee - we went toward the end of the night and were able to get a table quickly. The staff was extra attentive, quick to grab our orders and the food came out without much wait. The outdoor seating area was a bit cramped, but it was nice to be outside in the perfect weather. There were a few fans that were circulating the air, too, which kept the temperature tolerable. Our meals were incredible. The noodles and sauce were perfect - I'm fairly certain I've never had anything better. I wish I lived closer so I could get back and try everything on the menu. From the atmosphere to the food I was sincerely impressed. The wait staff was incredible friendly, and service was fast despite being very busy. I loved hearing Thai being yelled in the kitchen. It really feels like you are in a restaurant in Thailand. The pad Thai and Pad Khee Mao were superb. I'm very critical of Thai food as my grandma is from Thailand and I have high standards. I grew up on grandmas thai cooking. The pad thai had the perfect flavor and ratio of noodles, meat, veggies. Probably the best Pad Thai I have found in Oregon so far. It took forever to be ready after 20 mins. after driving half an hour home, we saw that they forgot a whole pad Thai dish and wings on the order. We called them to try to resolve the issue since there was no way we could go back now. After asking the employee on the phone, he was like as very unhelpful and no sympathy. We had to argue with the employee to get a refund and right when he said he would give a refund, he hung up and ignored our calls when we tried to get back in touch.
