I had a teeth cleaning and xrays here under OHP, and Dr. Young was so great. He was kind, thorough, and asked about my concerns regarding my teeth. He was gentle throughout, and was sure to be careful around some sensitive parts of my teeth that I had mentioned. I left with a referral for my wisdom teeth to a place covered under my insurance. Which was the main point of my visit. I've had some doctors in the past ignore requests or info I had written on my documents but he made sure I got everything I needed before leaving. I will definitely be coming back. Its not a flashy dentist and could use a spruce, but it was quality service that was covered by my insurance. :) read more

I get a nervous pit in my stomach when I think of the dentist and Dr Young has been so calm, caring and thoughtful as he brought me through the process of under going a root canal. Their services are great they seem to be use to being quick and efficient. Everyone is very nice! This is a great place to go if you don't struggle with anxiety around the experience. I have very specific anxiety-related needs and this place and employees do not seem to really understand that or cater to it. Which is just good to know for anyone with high anxiety around the dentist or any appointments. It's a five star review because there is literally nothing wrong here, but I wanted to leave a review because this is a review I would like to have been able to read before going. I also think my cleaning was pretty aggressive. I'd had a cleaning in June somewhere else before coming here in December of the same year, so I don't think my teeth/gums were just super in need of cleaning I am pretty sure Dr Young was just super aggressive. My anxiety disorder makes it hard to be truthful when I am in pain so that is why I cannot return. I was literally in shock as to how painful this cleaning was I'd never experienced anything like it. The aggressiveness and honestly just the feeling of a general lack of thought and care towards those who suffer from what is sometimes referred to as "invisible" mental health disorders was pretty strong here and no amount of me saying that to staff would be helpful- I need people who understand things like disabling anxiety disorders right from the brink, to be who I receive care from. read more

Dr. Young is kind, gentle, professional, and technically skilled. This practice is no-frills but provides quality care. I walk out each time feeling confident that I got the best advice and treatment. I trust Dr. Young. His staff is great, too. I just had a tooth extracted and his assistant held my hand! Dr Young as awesome. When I first went to see a dentist here in Portland all I had done was a cleaning, they charged me over $600 way more than what my insurance would cover. I later found DR Young. When I first went to get my teeth cleaned, he took xrays of my entire mouth, he measured each and every tooth, then he cleaned my teeth and all within budget of my insurance. I have major dentist phobia and he is always so patient and gentle with me asking if I am doing alright. I would highly recommend him to anyone read more

I went here for a cleaning before I moved and came back a week later with inflamed gums under a previous root canal and the dentist said I might need a deep cleaning and it should go down. I actually have a fractured root and a pretty significant infection and need the tooth extracted. Take what these folks say with a grain of salt. read more

I am retired and have no dental insurance. My previous dentist retired several years ago and I had an dental emergency (broken tooth) one morning so I called Pacific Dental because it was nearby. Dr. Franklin was able to see me within an hour of my call because of a cancellation. Within ten days I had a new crown which fit my mouth even better than the old tooth had. I was pleasantly surprised when the charges were much less than what I had recently paid another dentist for services for my adult grandson. Dr Young and his family/team are top notch. They all made me feel as comfortable as one can get in a dentist chair. I am pretty picky about my dentists. In fact, before finding Dr Young, I started the new-patient process with two other dentists in the area, but never had more than the initial x-rays before declining further services. Aside from a long-overdue cleaning, I also had to color-match a lifelong front tooth filling. I had been told by previous dentists that the the best course of action was to have caps or crowns made for both front teeth as color-matching would be next to impossible. Dr Young convinced me otherwise; that he would be able to color-match the filling to my other front tooth (thus saving me thousands of dollars for caps/crowns or other alternatives). Not only did he do an incredible job, but he insisted on re-doing the original work that I was satisfied with, but he was not (free of charge). And yes, it did turn out even better than the first attempt. How does one accidentally find a low-cost, nice, honest, perfectionist dentist? Luck, I suppose.... or maybe Yelp reviews... read more

This place is really great. It appears to be a little run down from the outside, but they are very professional and the staff is always so friendly. I get really nervous about going to the dentist, so when I needed some work done I was very skeptical. Dr. Young was so gentle and very considerate of how I was feeling. He didn't hurt me once! I joined Yelp just to warn people not to go here. My partner and I both recently visited Dr. Young and we both had terrible experiences. He's a nice enough dentist, but he's excessively brutal and his tools and technique all seem cribbed from some sort of torture-by-dentistry manual from the 1980s. I was scheduled for a regular cleaning (which he insisted would have to be a two-part "deep" cleaning") but his first priority seemed to be causing me to almost gag and/or kick my feet up in the air reflexively in pain. For what it's worth, I'm no dental wimp and have a fairly high pain threshold. Also, they won't cover tooth extractions with OHP apparently (though even the Multnomah County clinic will do extractions no problem), which is probably just as well, considering the service we received for a basic cleaning. Excellent Service and Friendly, Respectful Staff! I've had horrible teeth all my life, and spent many more hours in dentists' offices than I would ever wish on anyone. I'd put off seeing a dentist for years - to the point of being embarrassed - but Dr. Young's staff were welcoming and non-judgemental. As it became clear I needed extensive work, including partial dentures, the Doctor and his staff worked with me to build a care plan that accomodated my work schedule, my insurance plan, and my tolerance for time in the dentist chair. My dental work was time-consuming and painful, but Dr. Young and his assistants have consistently been patient and sensitive. Pacific Dental is my dentist for life. They are awesome here. Dr Young is a fabulous and caring dentist and his technicians are very good. They did a complicated root canal for me which required me to stay until almost 7PM until it was done and a crown that required many modifications. He is extremely professional and a has great "bedside manor". His receptionist is wonderful and I actually enjoy going to the dentist, for almost 3 years now. read more
