While the depot's lone staff member provides friendly and helpful service, travelers should note that there are no indoor facilities at this location. During our visit, when faced with 35 degree weather and a delayed train, we found a perfect solution at the Embassy Suites across the street. The hotel provided a comfortable indoor space where we could use the restrooms and enjoy a drink while waiting. Despite the lack of indoor facilities at the depot itself, the combination of affordable transportation options and nearby amenities made for a positive experience.

Sometimes, I prefer to leave the airport at SEA and take a train south instead of making a connection to PDX. I am a person who likes train travel. One warning is that a taxi driver at SeaTac had NO IDEA where the Amtrak station was. He tried to google it while driving; I thought we would have an accident! If I go direct from airport to station, I use Lyft or Uber now instead. More often, if I stop at SEA, it's because I'm arriving at an ugly hour, so I stay at a hotel. The Marriott across the street is within easy walking distance to the Amtrak station, and they've got a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel for overnight guests. There are no employees to assist passengers, but there is a notice posted in the covered shelter on each of the two platforms indicating the typical track for every Amtrak service that passes thru. As of 2023, there is also an Amtrak app that gives status updates and includes notices about track changes. Here's a tip: if riding in coach, you'll probably board in the center of the train, so stand near the middle of the platform. Business class boards at the front of the train, which is the end furthest away from the raised wheelchair platform (which I have not seen used at Tukwila Station myself.) The shelters will keep the rain off, but they don't have doors that close, so it can be a chilly wait. Everything seems in good repair, though, and I didn't feel uncomfortable waiting on the platform as a woman alone around noon. I have no data points for later trains.

Located in the heart of downtown Bellevue, this outdoor transit center (basically a series of…read moreberths where different bus numbers come and go) can be used to go to SeaTac airport in about 45 minutes. It also has local buses going throughout Bellevue, which can be used as connectors. The lightrail does not connect through Bellevue. There is a lot of construction next to the transit station (building some sort of high rise). I-405 is what connects Bellevue to the airport, and the bus takes it most of the way. It is just a standard bus, so doesn't have luggage racks nor empty spaces where bulky luggage can be placed. Works if you have one piece of luggage and the bus isn't too full. Bus driver was super friendly, and the fare one-way is $2.75 if using the mobile app that lets you buy the ticket on-line (you have 2 hours of unlimited uses once you activate it...so free transfers).

If you go wait at the bus stop super early like 10-15 minutes to prepare for the buses that come too early but it's delayed, you will end up waiting 20-50 minutes in total just standing in the blazing sun or cold rain. But if you try to go on time with a few extra minutes early, there are days buses will be 8-10 minutes early so you will miss it and with my luck the next bus will be delayed. Today I went out at 1:10PM for a bus and it was super early so I waited for the next one and it was delayed. Now I will arrive somewhere around 2:30PM for a place that takes 10 minutes to drive to.
