Although the doctors at Retina Center NW are outstanding, the apparent "triage" service is not!…read moreToday I contacted the Silverdale Retina Center because two days ago I had a retinal bleed in my left eye; I was hoping to make an appointment with Dr O'Malley who has been treating my diabetic retinopathy condition for many years. When I called to make the appointment, the woman at the front desk said I would first need to speak with a "triage" before she could make an appointment. She said the traige would call me back soon to further discuss my bleed & possibly make an appointment? Well, this day has passed, and I've heard nothing from the triage? Unfortunately, I've had a few quite negative exchanges in the past with the triages, when calling to schedule an appointment if I've had an eye bleed. On one occasion, the triage curtly stated, "didn't I know the bleed will clear in a few weeks"! Which is often incorrect because I've had bleeds that have not cleared for 21/2 months! What's more, you just don't speak to a long time patient like that, particularly given the recurrence of my retinal bleeds. The triages need proper training in dealing with patients thoughtfully & empathetically. I certainly hope this issue will be addressed for the benefit of all patients current & future at the Retina Center Northwest in Silverdale?

Meaning, when i called to make the appointment: i was "screened" to make sure i wasn't wasting my money. Day of appointment, empty waiting room, minimal wait time. I traversed through a 3 rooms (stations), 2 for assessments. First room : medical history, glaucoma test, eye dial action, and eye chart reading. Second room: my retina was images on 2 different machines. Third room - Dr O'Malley provided assessment. He has a thorough and sequential (apparent) first visit routine. Stepping through some basic eye physiology as a basis for explains the images and results. i'm normally a guy who likes to skip through the introduction and jump right to the end, but this tune i but my tongue and listened and went along for the ride. I'm glad i did. It's obvious Dr O'Malley read my induct form, and in a honest, direct and plain spoken manner, addressed things he saw - effects of genetics and efficacy of vitamins. In parting, he said i didn't need to see a specialist (like him) for a follow up in a couple of years. Meaning. he focused on the level of care i needed, not generating more patients (and money) for his practice. I went to a gucci (say Ferrari for car buffs like me) Doctor, so i could create a baseline to track any changes, so my next appointment is in 2 years.

I am so grateful for Dr Spinak and everyone at Retina Center. Sequim is lucky to have you. Thank…read moreyou
