I bought the fireplace from Treat's in Auburn in 2016 and after contacting them, I was told I am out of their service area (yeah, I know - we'll sell you the fireplace but we can't service it). Anyway, they recommended Stan so I called him. Stan didn't know me from Adam, I have never used him before and as I said, I didn't buy the fireplace from him. He spent 30 minutes on the phone with me saying "send me a picture of the stove, the remote, the underneath after you pull the panel off". Then, " get the owner's manual and send it to me". He had me go through this process and checking this and that while still on the phone with him. After all of this guidance, he walked me through the problem why the fan wasn't engaging and I fixed the problem: a switch got turned off no doubt by me while vacuuming underneath. While this is an admittedly an odd review given that Stan never came out to service the fireplace, he fixed it for me. All the time while on the phone. For me, he's the first guy I will reach out to if I ever have a "real" problem I can't fix. Just simply outstanding customer awareness on that call with me today. If you are in need of any service in this area, just call the guy - he really gets what it takes to build loyal customers.

Our fireplace is older and had a crack in the bottom of the metal. I'll be honest, this is not what I expected at all. I'm a pretty handy person but I've never had a…read morechimney before and just bought a house with one. The secondary air tube is visibly significantly bowed, the firebricks are destroyed or missing, the ceramic baffles aren't even there anymore. I requested a fireplace inspection and chimney cleaning and got told 9am-noon. The inspector showed up at noon, took a picture up the insert with the flash on and told me it was rusty. Didn't go on the roof to inspect the chimney cap or flashing, didn't offer to scope the insert to see if it was deteriorated, didn't even turn the blower on to see if it worked. Then I pull the outside cover of the firebox off myself and find the flue isn't even attached to the firebox. Once I show him and he tells me he can put some high heat duct tape on it instead of mechanically securing it first. I explain that I'm not looking for a temporary fix and he says it will work fine, it's an old stove. At this point I just want to pay him so he can leave so I can google the obvious issues myself. If you can't physically buy $50 of chimney sweep tools and clean it yourself and would rather pay someone $400 (I talked him down to $350) to do it then go for it. If you're looking for a professional to do professional work then look elsewhere.

From the first call I was hooked and confident, we'd made the right decision. Randy showed up right on time and he truly looked like what I'd imagine a chimney sweep might dress like! (My only vision of a chimney sweep was Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins). Randy was kind enough to let me take his picture. Come on yelp, let us post pics! Fast Service and easy accommodating scheduling. October 2010 Originally scheduled Randy for a fireplace inspection of our Oil Furnace and Fireplace Full inspection and cleaning of your fireplace, hearth, chimney, and flue system. Randy had identified safety issues with our existing wood stove. Primarily a faulty flue open /close mechanism and it's configuration so we'd agreed to re-schedule the cleaning portion for a later date. He'd reviewed the efficiency of our existing wood stove. Made some suggestions about other wood stove options that might be better for our space. Also referred us to another company for the wood stove options. Randy was patient and taking the time to answer all of my questions being a new home owner. Very knowledgeable about codes and what we'd need to modify to bring the existing system up to code. August 2011 Knew we'd need to schedule Randy to come out for the cleaning and spaced it out two weeks ahead of our desired schedule date. Given the convenience in scheduling back in October, was confident we could get something scheduled even with my lack of advanced notice. We'd phoned Randy again last week to schedule the chimney cleaning for the fireplace and oil boiler chimney. We were replacing the wood stove with a gas insert. The contractor's replacing the boiler and installing the gas insert removed the old wood stove so we could prep for the new install of liners with clean chimneys. Once the wood stove was fully pulled out and the surround removed, there was a good 12" of soot and debris sitting on both sides of the wood stove in the fireplace. The top of the firebox /wood stove had a good 9" of soot stacked on the top of the unit. Thought this was going to be a HUGE mess. No way anyone's going to be able to remove this without it scattering throughout the house. Sure enough, Randy had it all tidy like it'd never been dirty. I should've watched how it was done as I still can't believe it. Looking at his website information now, it shouldn't have been a surprise with their Clean House Guarantee. Apparently the stove's vent wasn't lined up with the flue to vent the smoke and had been circulating in the vacant space behind the stove's surround. This was all accumulating from the previous owner's use of the stove. The air quality wasn't a concern for us as Randy had identified the safety issues with us in October. We'd wisely heeded his recommendations and hadn't ever used the wood stove. Thank you Randy for your fast service, easy scheduling and clean house guarantee. This project went so much smoother with your assistance. Can't imagine what our indoor air quality would've been like if we'd been burning that wood stove from October 2010 to February 2011. Had we tried to clean the chimney and fireplace ourselves, suspect we'd still be trying to clean up soot for years to come.

Turns out the portion of the chimney from our wood burning stove was built upside down. He fixed that, cleaned all the rest of the stuff, gave some advice on how to keep it clean and was on his way.
