I had MK Home Services come and look at our fireplace. Overall I was dissatisfied with the level of expertise and the cost associated. I was charged $100 for essentially a 5 minute look at our fireplace. The rep then said the fireplace was too old, and needed to be replaced. They quoted me $3,000 for a whole new fireplace set up. We opted not to go that route. Fast forward a few months and PSE comes out to the fireplace after we thought we smelled gas in our house. The PSE rep took the time to look at the fireplace and thoroughly inspect it. He was able to diagnose the real issue, which was a missing $15 part. Ultimately MK home services did not bring the expertise, nor the desire to truly fix and understand things like I was expecting. This is especially true for the cost. read more

I just moved to the area a few months ago. My home has two gas fireplaces, which I'm not very familiar with. I was having LOTS of trouble working them, and reached out to MK Home Services for help. Ben arrived exactly when he was expected, very professional, very charming. He got right to work on the first fireplace - seeing there was a definite problem with one of the controls. But before addressing it - he wanted to check the second fireplace. Again - a few issues with the controls, but nothing extreme. He worked with them a few minutes, resulting in the second fireplace working perfectly. Ben showed me how to work the controls, and explained how to use the system. Back to the first fireplace, one of the controls was frozen in place - and couldn't be turned. He advised that he was going to try to loosen it up and get it working - but that it might result in a broken control, which would then need replacing. I understood and agreed to him moving forward. Five minutes later - he had the control working, and again, showed me how to use this fireplace (as it's different than the other), and made sure I was comfortable with the system. Within 20 minutes, he had both systems working, a very nervous customer fully trained on the use of the gas fireplace, and a new loyal customer created. I called MK Home Services based on the many positive reviews here. They were easy to schedule and came for a free estimate within a couple days. The quote provided for chimney cleaning was about 40% higher than other estimates I received and included some items that other companies told me were not applicable to my chimney. I also received a $400 quote from MK Home for repairing cracks inside the base of the chimney that I was quoted $100 elsewhere. Finally, they didn't go on the roof to check the chimney crown, which other companies did and showed me photos of large cracks that need to be repaired. I can't speak to the quality of MK Home's work, but I am sharing my honest experience here to encourage others to get a second and third opinion if the quote seems high to you. read more

Had MK out to clean our fully operational gas fireplace and chimney. Tech said only the fireplace needed cleaning and we could skip the chimney. After the cleaning, the ignitor for the fireplace was no longer working. Tech proceeded to suss out the issue only to repeatedly tell me it was "not the cleaning that broke it, just bad timing" and that we're "lucky he's here so he can offer us a good deal on a new ignitor." My gas fireplace stopped working in the middle of the evening for no reason I tried to light it up with videos I saw on YouTube but didn't success. We bought a 1906 home which was in dire need of masonry/ chimney repair. Knowing nothing about this, we got 3 businesses to quote and were BY FAR most impressed with Benjamin and MK Home Services. They were; - The quickest to reply and to come out (from our initial enquiry). - They brought a drone to assess the job and NO ONE else did this (the other companies just looked at the job from the ground). - Ben was the only person to suggest we didn't have 'caps' on our chimney (we are Australian and know NOTHING about chimneys!!!). Caps seem important. - The quote from MK was the cheapest by $10,000 on the other 2 quotes we received... Which was a FANTASTIC price I think. One company even suggested to needed to take the chimney down to 1/2 way and rebuild from there up!!!!
