You can tell this is family owned and run, with a lot of passion and hard work put into the place. The owner is lovely and brews a mean cup of delicious Kona coffee. They do get busy (was here on a Saturday at 11 am and it was packed) and make stuff to order, so be prepared for Island Time when you dine here. Even the musubi and coffee are made to order. My only quibble was that I paid for a custard filled malasada and since they don't give it to you right then and there if you are dining in with other dishes, they let me know later they actually had run out. But they are that good. Otherwise all the food was delicious and brought my husband and I back to our last vacation there. The live music made the time fly. We landed on poke nachos and a mochiko chicken/kalbi combo with fried saimin. Be sure to note that ADD fried saimin doesn't mean add. This location was closer to me than Zippy's, so I opted for Pacific Island Taste. I am not someone who usually likes mac salad, but their mac salad was pretty good. I got the kalua pig, Korean fried chicken, laulau, and poke. The poke was surprisingly good, but the meats were a little on the dry side. Since Aloha Specialties in the California Hotel closed, I came here to get my Hawaiian food fix, I was blown away by the variety on the menu: almost everyone of my favorite Hawaiian dishes were on the menu, which made it hard to choose. I still have regret that I couldn't try the oxtail soup or the sweet and sour spare ribs, but I'll be back. I got the combo plate with lau lau and Rry's fried chicken. The Lau Lau was very good: the meat was tender and I liked the taste of the Ti leaves. It was less seasoned than other Lau Lau I've had, but it's easy to add shoyu or salt to preference. The fried chicken was very good. The batter was shatteringly crispy and the meat was very juicy. To note though: it's not a Hawaiian fried chicken where it's marinated in soy/ginger first (like mochiko chicken), but more like a very good version of mainland fried chicken. Also, the Mac salad was very solid, My other regret was that they were out of malasadas. I was craving Oxtail soup and found this place on Yelp. There is nothing fancy about the restaurant inside or outside. My husband has some kind of bbq plate with short rib, chicken and beef. We also had spam masubi. Spam masubi was bomb. Chicken katsu was also very good. Every year we are here for the annual tournament and this must be a stop while here. From the outside, you might just drive by but don't, stop in and eat here. The interior is very spacious and humble and it should.not set the tone for your visit. The crew here is always friendly and helpful. The menu is great, rather eating here or getting it to go. Excellent customer service! We were greeted as soon as we walked through the door, and the gentleman assisting us was patient with us as we kept adding to our order. My family and I ordered the following plates: Cheeseburger and fries, Pit BBQ, ahi nachos, Shanghai spring rolls, Keiki bento (spam musubi, mochiko chicken, fries), Kalua krunch, and a taro milk tea. The hamburger patty is thick, juicy and homemade. The BBQ chicken and Kalbi were perfectly charred.. just enough to add flavor, and the Mac salad was not overpowered with mayo.. just the right amount. Flavors are authentic, portions are great, prices are fair, vibes are chill, ambience is laid back, and the owner herself is often found working in/around the kitchen and greeting the diners. Pacific Island Taste is located near Paradise Rd off of Sahara Rd. It is easy to locate and access and parking is plentiful. The shopping center is old and the parking lot desperately needs to be repaved. The area/ neighborhood looks sketch and I would discourage any females coming alone after dark. The interior is very spacious. They have a hang out area right by the door that reminds me of a den or small family room set up. The dining area is wide with plenty table & chair seating which is comfortably arranged without feeling cramped. The far side has a stage where they have live music on Saturday afternoons. Workers amicably greeted us as soon as we came in. We were seated right away and were given menus to look over. Orders are placed at the counter and brought to the table when ready. Today we chose the Pit BBQ Combo, the Loco Moco, and 2 BBQ chicken skewers. The Pit Combo was a very large plate with 3 different kinds of protein, rice, and mac salad. My SIL enjoyed all of his food and had enough leftover for lunch the next day. The chicken skewers were for the kids and they were delicious! Two or three of these with a side of rice would be a tasty meal! The Loco Moco was mine. The beef patty was smothered in gravy and topped with an over easy egg. It was served over rice with mac salad on the side. The serving was generous, but the meat and gravy were lacking flavor and needed to be seasoned more. While my SIL enjoyed the mac salad, I found it to be under seasoned and having too much mayo. So, mixed reviews from my party on the food. I didn't think it was terrible, just underwhelming. It is open, with plenty of seating, and even an area for live music. It is counter service and the lovely women offered me a menu, but I had checked online and knew what I was there for. I ordered a half pound of the limu poke and a side of rice. The prices are fantastic, especially for Vegas, though I would say a good deal anywhere. There were a few people at tables eating and their cooked food smelled fantastic. I got my poke to go and it was brought out quickly. The poke was phenomenal! So fresh and the quality of the tuna was excellent. It was pretty simply dressed but didn't need a thing. Some of the best poke I have had. The rice was cooked perfectly and it was a very large portion. Everything was packed up nice and tight, with chopsticks, silverware, and napkins. 10/10 would recommend. So I was ecstatic to discover that mochiko chicken is one of Pacific Island Taste's specialties. The texture and flavor were all exceptional - I finished my entire plate.
