I used to love coming to this market... And would get prepared meals at least 2 to 3 times a week. Lately the food doesn't even look appetizing... And they make the same thing over and over. I've been coming to this market for nearly 20 years, and it has always been special to me. I moved to the community in 2008 and I split my time between the different grocers, but I have been a daily shopper now for almost a year. Their hot trays always have my curiosity and lately I've become obsessed with their creative deli items and sandwiches. It's easy to grab a soup, salad or sandwich premade in the cooler in front of the deli or you can choose from one of their many delicious sandwiches that are, so far, unmatched in Sebastopol. The staff are so friendly and the manager is always on the floor helping. They are in good hands. I actually look forward to shopping there. It's become part of my daily routine. (And I just discovered chowders from Bodega Bay this morning!) I am so proud of what they've done with this store in the last couple of years. It's a neighborhood gem. read more

I asked the kind lady behind the bakery counter about blueberry scones for my mom. Pretty soon there were three employees helping me with my problem.. which was solved. This is why I don't go to Safeway. Every time I am in Pacific market, I have had at least one really good experience! It's usually with the girl who works in the evening with the vitamins or maybe, I t's the manager. The goofy bagger, the butcher who trimmed a TRI TIP on Christmas Eve for me. This is an excellent and my newest favorite go to grocery store, their deli is unbelievably delicious! Hot bar is always on par and the selections are perfection! The people here are wonderful, it feels good to shop here. I do wish they had a larger organic selection in produce, but I think it may have to do with the season? That's what I imagine anyway...they keep lots of locally sourced produce and grocery items available!!! Their bakery even has some local delish! Yes, please!!! This place is a high end grocery that has an enormous diversity of ingredients, the most of any grocery in town. It's expensive. Some prices are outrageous, however if you go for the sale items, then you can save money. If you want a one stop shop then this is worth your time--and depending on your (lack of) budget--and your money. If your looking for something specific, you have a better chance of finding it here than anywhere else in town. Just be cognizant of the cost of what you buy here compared to other places. Some things are 2.5 times the cost at other groceries. I guess you pay for convenience, and to support a local shop. Staff and customers alike were all very nice. I'd shop here more often if only all their products didn't cost several dollars more than they do anywhere else in town. I love their bakery section--awesome bagels and cookies! I'm a big market sandwich guy so it's sandwich making is really Important. The deli really knows how to make them. They don't skimp on ingredients, or quality. Each sandwich comes with a free Andes chocolate. Now most people would scoff at that, but In the age of getting less and less for your money like Safeway, for me that is a big deal. The prices are pretty high at pacific market so I don't shop for everything there, but I try to support local places like this. Consolidation of everything seems to make our lives worse so I try not to support large super markets. On another note this location has a real problem with making sure food that is past its expiration date is not on the shelves. There were at least three times that I purchased something that was bad: nuts, chocolate, and hummus. I would recommend that management stays on top of that. read more

Cheese Master I'm not sure of the fellows name who mans the cheese department at Sebastapol Pacific market, but when I ask for a recommendation the last two times he has been 100% right on. I did not immediately take to his polite encouragement the first few times I passed by, but I have learned that I may have been missing something. I mentioned Gouda, and he presented creamy or sharp? I mentioned blue, and a variety of incredible makers were quickly referred to. We always think we are so smart, until we talk to the cheese master! read more

I don't live in Sebastopol so I wasn't aware of this amazing market. But I was in the area doing some Christmas shopping and stopped in. I was pleasantly surprised to hear Carolers in the store, it was such a lovely surprise. The staff was super friendly and the vibe of the store was very positive. I have since gone back (I don't live too far and it's worth the drive) when I needed a big grocery haul and was very pleased with the locally organic produce and grass fed meat. And the service was still just as friendly! I definitely recommend Pacific Market! read more

For a local market they do a great job. A bit pricey but fine. Most staff are very nice and helpful. I'm compelled to write this review as two days in a row the young people in the deli and meat section are not wearing masks. Regardless of the law, it doesn't instill confidence in hygiene and safety when the two departments with exposed products are being served by those not covering their face. I own a food business and we are sick of masks but the safety of our customers and my crew come before laws and political statements. I have not seen this at other local markets yet. I would like to continue to shop here but at the moment I'll have to pass. read more

We used to shop here because of the organic vegetables, the friendly and efficient guys at the meat counter, and also the pastries: danish, macaroons, etc. However, we soon found out that you get the same quality elsewhere for 10-20% cheaper. Examples are dairy, cheeses (way overpriced), cereal (e.g., Heritage Heirloom Whole Grain), and some fruits (organic bananas and Fuji apples). We had some bad experience at the Sushi counter: uncooked rice, soggy maki sushi. We spend about $600 a month on groceries and shop now at the lighter and brighter and cheaper Oliver's Market and get nuts and some raw food at Andy's. We like cute neighborhood stores; but Pacific hasn't kept up (it's also too narrow and small), and we save about $60 to $100 a month shopping elsewhere. read more

The market is okay but a checker named Tena Raftery is amazing. She is so cheerful and happy and really seemed like she cared about how I was. She has been at this market for over 20 years and I applaud her for loving a job so much to stay that long. That sure doesn't happen these days. She knows all the ins and outs of this store and is by far the most knowledgeable person in this store. It's worth waiting to stand in her line just to be treated so well and feel so welcome. I only wandered in to get ice because I'd stopped to try some meh pizza a few doors down. Wow! I was impressed by the salad bar. But there is so much more; Asian food, fried foods, comfort food, all kept warm under sneeze quards, on watertables. You pay by the pound, and I thought some of the prices were a bit off the chart for what they appeared to be. But the selection was great. There is a great cheese section. Really pretty, fresh fruit. It's a smaller store, so you won't find the selection you'd find down the street at the larger, more well known supermarkets. And the staff was nice and courteous. read more

Today went into pacific mrkt to get 2 sandwiches in the deli. There was 1 clerk working in front filling a call-in order. She waited on me & took my order but I had to wait till she finished the order she was working on. I must have waited 20 min. In the meantime, there were app. 7 to 8 people in the back room talking & not paying any attention to what was going on in front. I have worked deli for 30 yrs. and never ever would have put up with this. I have been to this deli a few times now and ALWAYS have to wait. I doubt I will ever go back. This store deserves negative stars if only Yelp had them. It is a dirty, low vibration place staffed by rude and extremely unprofessional staff. Any level of basic customer service is shockingly non-existent. I've unfortunately shopped here many times due to location, so here is my short report. Personal example of how they treat their customers: I was waiting in line while checker is having long personal conversation with customer. Another checker opens her line finally but takes the last people in my line (the ones waiting the shortest, not the longest).I finally go to the other check stand line as my line is going nowhere. The people who were in line behind me are long gone. I start to make a very short comment about how In the future it may be good to take the person who is next in line, before I can say it, the checker cuts me off and starts to loudly defend herself and then loudly mock me to the people behind me in line "Do you see her?! you can't please everyone! what is wrong with some people?" I ran out of the store humiliated for speaking up. I spoke later to the cowardly owner who apologized. Apparently she was a manager(!) nothing had changed in the years since then. Another example is just the last time I was there and the checker commented on the food I was buying, pointing out the ice cream and saying I was going to have a good time tonight. I have never felt shame in buying any ice cream (I have a family who eats most of it), but suddenly I realized he was implying I was going to go home and eat the carton all by myself that very night! Even though I had a child standing there with me, he insinuated I was obviously buying it just for myself. I could see the line behind me and their eyes on the ice cream and on me, and I felt I was being portrayed as a gluttonous, furtive ice cream eating pig. I was speechless and left. Filthiness: I've bought meat there from the meat counter twice and got sick both times. I've bought deli food from their refrigerated case and it was spoiled immediately after purchase. Their fruit selection is the worst -- unripe and very little organic fruits. They also try to sell off old fruit that is going bad. A worker there told my friend they use old food for the deli. A friend tells me they do deliveries all night long with out care as to how that affects the residential community around them. I've also heard them doing middle of the night deliveries as if it were the middle of the day. Outside: the side and backside of the store is messy and filthy and smells bad. To walk to the store from the side street is always walking through streams of unknown liquid coming out of the store. Considering the awfulness of this store, everything is overpriced by far. Obviously the people who own and work in this store have little to no respect for themselves so subsequently, they have little to no respect for their customers. Every time I've gone it was a negative shopping experience and even though I try to have no interaction with the staff, I still have to occasionally ask a question or get through that check stand. I kept going because the location is convenient but it's not worth it and I don't plan on going back again. I recommend ANY other grocery in Sebastopol-- close by is Andys which is 3 minutes away north and is marvelous; Luckys is the next shopping center north; Safeway and Whole Foods are 3 minutes away south: and Fircrest is 5 min away south. read more

Sometimes, I can be a pretty lazy person. There are days where I'd rather not lift a finger; I just want food. Pacific offers a variety of prepared dishes (hot/cold). I love this little market for its offerings. You can pick up noodles, shrimp, chicken skewers and other cold salads. The hot bar is pretty awesome too! This is another place in sebastopol that we don't frequent too often. We don't buy much here at all, unless were out of something we need & can't find it anywhere else. Everything here is overpriced unless it's on sale, like most stores & businesses in town. The serve yourself entrees look good, but we've never tried any of them. Why should we have to pay tourist prices everywhere we go here when we're locals? This is just another overpriced 'convenience' store, for people who are too lazy to leave town in order to get more reasonable prices. Disappointed again. Have a cold went there to get some soupin a can. I could not find any soup in a can so I asked a woman who did not know where the soup was so she asked a man who also worked there who was walking by if he knew where the soup was and he said to follow him he said he did not know where the soup was he took me to an aisle and said here's your best bet and then walked away. There are things I like about this store: they have foods that I can't get at other stores in town and most of the checkers are really nice and friendly, although one recently mocked me for using a coupon that no one knew how to ring up. But I have sworn off the food bar. Some of the things that taste good give me stomach trouble, and the chow mein I just bought was positively inedible, so much so that no amount of soy sauce could possibly make it endurable. It is very expensive and has a limited selection. Also, I bought pringles and a brownie today, and the pringles were expired(8/7/2020) and smelled, tasted like paint thinner. On the flip side, there was a hair in the brownie which I know isn't mine because I have box braids and my hair was up while eating the brownie. read more

Two stars because the food is usually pretty high quality, but the service is so bad it's hard to believe. If you go to the deli counter, you better bring a lunch (ironic, I know) because you will wait an absurdly long time to get waited on. My husband works for Pacific Market. My dad just passed away and we were so touched by all the kindness from all of his co workers. The owner, Vasu and manager, Al told him to take time off. He recived lots of texts from his co workers, cards signed by everyone. We were so touched by Al showing up at our house delivering a whole spread of food from appetizers to desserts. When I arrived at Sebastopol Pacific Market today, I realized I forgot my wallet. I was so tired and hungry, I thought maybe worth a try to go inside and ask if I could just pick up a couple of things and call them with my credit card number as soon as I got home. So I went inside and asked Roland who was behind the register and he said "sure!". So I picked up my items returned to Roland, he rang up my things and pulled cash out of his own wallet to cover my bill! I was astounded! I assumed that I would pay the store with a credit card later. Roland assured me it was OK and that he wanted to do it. WOW! I am awestruck by Roland's caring, generosity and trust in me!!! So rare are the likes of Roland! Then I saw Al, the Store Director walking in the parking lot on my way to my car and I told him what Roland did. Al said "Great, I am so glad to hear, thanks for telling me, I will go inside right now and give Roland a big hug and buy him lunch tomorrow!" From the bottom up and the top down Sebastopol Pacific Market is PURE GOODNESS!! I am so appreciative and grateful to Roland, and I am heart touched to be met with such trust and generosity! We live in Maui. My father-in-law lives there so we vacation there now. So we tried all the markets to find what we were used to at home. This place we love! We were there at Christmas and I wanted to cook foods for my father n law to freeze but he didn't have a big enough pot. So I asked this gal Who works in the liquor department by any chance do you know where I can buy a pot so I can make some food for my 88-year-old father-in-law? She said let me go check I think I can give you one of our pots as long as you promise to bring it back! Crazy who does that, that was so nice her name is Christy. We love the salad bar they had a San Pellegrino that we couldn't find anywhere, people were super nice! check out people were so nice. The meat department was awesome and answered everyone of our questions and gave us the best meat for Christmas! We are coming back in March and can't wait to go there again to see this store and the kind people that work there! read more

My go to market. I am picky, about cleanliness, freshness, pricing and service. Pacific Market checks all the boxes. In particular, the service is off the chart. Just last week I came in to finish my Thanksgiving shopping and needed help finding a couple of things. This is the closest market to my house and I want to love it. The store is clean and pretty well stocked. The deli is nice, the bakery pretty good. But I usually find the employees totally indifferent to customers. Some of the checkout people (like Pixie) are too busy yakking with their co-workers to say hello or thank you to customers. It's very off-putting. I've even contacted the owner to say that it wouldn't take all that much to be more like Olivers....really tuned in to good customer service. He seemed like he heard the criticism but I find little difference in the store. So, I'll continue to go to Fircrest and Olivers and Andy's unless I'm desperate. read more

I've held off on writing this because I'd simply decided not to shop there anymore. But today I had to stop and was met with the same horribly rude customer service, and so I figured I might as well review. I've had bad service here several times, always from the cashiers- the people in the deli & meat departments are actually very helpful with large special orders. But I want to relay the worst experience I've had, which was several months ago. I had bought a lunch salad from their make-it-yourself salad bar. That day I'd added some marinated mushrooms, which I hadn't noticed before. I thought, 'eh, that looks good.' Then I got up to the counter, and the young girl told me that the mushrooms were from a 'special' section that cost $2.00 more a pound than everything else, then just looked at me. I told her I had not realized that, and would be more aware in the future. She turned to an older woman who was also cashiering, and asked what she should do. The older cashier told her to charge me at the higher price for my entire salad. Um, no. The most basic concept of customer service would've been to charge me at the lower price and remind me to be more aware next time- which I would've been. Literally- it was THREE SMALL MUSHROOMS on the top of a large salad. I told the young girl I was not going to pay the higher price, and she looked at the older cashier, who then said I could pick them off. I can't make this up. Seriously, the young girl handed me a napkin and- remember, this is at the cash register- I picked off the mushrooms, which they then threw away. (Of course- I didn't expect them to return them to the salad bar. But it just boggled my mind that tossing them was preferable to the customer service route I'd explained above.) Oh, and there was a large line forming behind me. So not only was I being shamed because apparently I wasn't careful enough in reading my salad bar signage, but I got to be humiliated in front of several other customers. Like I said, today was the first time I've been back to the store, and it was only because I am feeling unwell and was desperate for a ginger ale, and they were close to where I already was. Unfortunately, the same older cashier from my earlier encounter was the only one available; I learned they call her Pixy. And again, today, she was rude. There was a problem, (big surprise) and I tried to make a small joke at it and laughed a bit. She just looked at me deadpan and said there was still a problem and added "bet it's not so funny now." Just... wow. There are SO many good places to shop in Sebastopol- Andy's, Community Market, Safeway, Whole Foods, Fircrest... in the future I'll happily drive further and pay more for the same goods elsewhere. read more

Sebastopol is lucky to have a great market like this! Quality of the food is high. A lot of organic. They have local meat, eggs, milk, cheese, etc. The store costs more than Safeway and is way better! One place the store could improve is with the deli, I wish people would understand what thin means! This note is for all delis in stores, first cuts should aways be thrown away, if thin is requested the server should show the customer and get approval, gloves are not there to protect the server, but to keep dirty hands from touching the food. Worse still is when people clean areas and touch buttons and then cut meat. Don't get me wrong, this place is way better than Whole Foods when it comes to their deli. These guys even have some vey nice tequila selections. Meat options are good, with Marin Farms, Meyers beef, other grass fed, Panizzera bacon, Marys to name a few great products from butcher. Kale is good too. And as a bonus they share the shopping center with Sebastopol Hardware, another must have! read more

I should write a book about Best Food Bars at Grocery stores. Pacific Market would earn a Michelin Star. For example: this week in sebastopol is the Gravenstein Apple fair. From the food bar today I had a pork chop with Gravenstein apples, potatoe salad with Gravenstein apples and Apple Crisp with... Yep ... Gravenstein Apples. I was quite impressed that the staff made these as well as other tasty selections based on the local Apple fair. They always seem to have a good seafood selection also, like ;salmon, crab or shrimp dishes. Add this to the favorites like Chicken Fingers ( some of the best around ), BBQ ribs and grilled vegetables. On weekends they always have the BBQ going with chicken and ribs and other goodies. The aroma alone is worth it. And their breakfasts are wonderful and inexpensive. So if your traveling through and want a better than average selection at a price substantially lower than any restaurant, you should consider this store. read more
