I held off writing a review here, but after shopping here for a couple years since I literally lived behind it, I can't take it anymore as I have consistently bought food that was spoiled or stale right off the shelf. One time- no big deal. Two times - a little annoying. Three times- what's going on here? Four times - just gross. Five? forget it...I even bought a package of pens here once and not even half of them worked! Old food and as others have mentioned, overpriced. Why bother? Why is it that every time I go in here the hand basket holder is always empty. I always have to go around the registers and find my own basket to go shopping. Don't these ever get put back when used? Prices are vastly overpriced. Need to watch expiration dates as I bought 2 items in Deli. That were expired . The quality has declined and the prices have gone up. Shop with caution at Pacific Market. Yes, you definitely need to take the time and check expiration dates. I never do much shopping here---WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! But I knew they carried this gelato that I had bought once before at Oliver's and I thought since it's Friday, let's have a treat! Even though it's expensive at $6.99 it was delicious...from Oliver's. The pint I bought from Pacific was VERY Stale! When I looked at the date on the container it was stamped 7-28-14! Last Friday was 2-20-15! That does it for me--not going to waste my time shopping here anymore Who wants to get sick from bad food? It's got a few things that need improving. 1. I don't want to wait 10 minutes at the sandwich/deli counter before anyone asks me what I want 2. Most of the deli food is soaked in oil or mayo 3. Never any baskets when I walk in, have to go find them 4. Overpriced, even more than Wholefoods at times 5. Always freezing in this store 6. Last time I was in there the lady at the cheese counter knew little to nothing about cheeses 7. Given its in Sebastopol, little more veggie and vegan options wouldn't hurt. 8. Customer service is non existent. It's not what you say to a customer, but how you say it. I bought some barbecue oysters on sale and when I got to the counter I noticed the package had been marked with the regular price. Pixie insisted in a very rude way I was wrong and it was the small oysters that were on sale. She proceeded to pull the ad and sure enough both oysters were on sale. We were spending time with friends just outside of Occidental. Looking for supplies for paella for dinner, and discovered this local market. Nice vibe. Wine snob from Idaho, lamented the lack of tempranillo, but walked out with 4 bottles of wine anyway. Chocolate snob from Idaho, found her fave chocolate bar: Chocolovexxo. I found a variety of soymilk, almond milk, coconut milk, hempmilk, and rice milk, and even my favorite: hazelnut milk. Would return next time we are in the area. read more

This is my favorite store in town. The produce is good, the meat is very good, I love the cheese selection and the craft beer area is excellent. Very nice wine selection and always have a beautiful bouquet of flowers to take home to your better half. It is easy to find things in this store because it is not an overgrown warehouse. Finally the people who work and shop here are the real locals, friendly, and not judging your food selections like some other stores in town. Feel free to buy meat here. read more

I have eating lots of breakfast food , this place has mastered the art , the quality surpasses any I mean any ! Restraint. You get your box and serve up a healthy helping it's less expensive than any restaurant . Potatoes with red n yellow bells peppers cubed potatoes n onions my fav! The bacon was thick and no fat ! The most wonderful local market! Please give them your business. I have been going there for over 20 years and have always received such personalized, warm and the extra mile kind of service. I forgot my credit card once and they let me go hoe with $200 worth of groceries and call with it when I got home. They are anxious to order items you like, always friendly, have a better organic food selection in some areas than Whole Foods, its just a great place to shop. I just visited this market for the first time and was so totally impressed that I plan to make it my regular shopping destination. The term "market" is misleading... Pacific Market has the products and customer service of a local market but the size and selection of a large grocery store. The delightful folks in the cheese and wine departments helped me put together a basket of locally produced goodies for my company that will be visiting from out of town. Then I just wandered through a wide selection of everything a market should have. I loved the unusual to go items that were prepared on site and the area of homemade gifts. Regarding the comment that you'll pay a few extra dollars, that's just true of any local market that specializes in unique, local products. You can always shop at the chain stores and save a few bucks, but you'll get what you pay for in most departments. read more

I've tried supporting this store since it's local over the years but gave up after too many mistakes with our office's lunch. I was in the parking lot at the bank and decided to give them another try after a 6-month hiatus of avoiding it (i didn't want to drive to Community Market). I'm a fool for thinking anything good has changed Your store has the worst deli department in all of Sonoma County, it is staffed with incompetent cretins that can't follow a simple sandwich order. It took 6 people 30 minutes to make 3 wrong sandwiches. If the owners are reading this you need to hire better people and pay them a better wage to attract better workers. The prices you are charging for anything in your store is a premium and your clients expect premium service from those prices. If your employees cannot read a simple sandwich order form they have no business working. I should not have to tell the lady FOUR separate times no mustard along with writing it on the bag "no mustard" and she still puts mustard on it. We bought 3 sandwiches on Saturday and not a single one was correct even after catching some of their mistakes they still do it anyways. After this trip, I will never buy another product from your store after your deli's complete incompetence. read more

If you like to treat your body to healthy options and you like to treat yourself and your family and friends to options that are fresh and naturally tasty this is your market. This lovely market seems to cater to my every desire. I love the wines Christie carries. They have a rich selection of both local and imported top shelf wines at reasonable pricing. Also if they don't have it she has ordered it for me! What great service. I always impress my company when I serve Pacific market cheeses, nuts, crackers, fruits and dried meats. I am constantly being inspired with a party theme when I visit the cheese bar. The sea food and meat counter is ethical and reasonable. They offer competitive organic humanely raised meats and wild line caught fish. Some of the older staff at the butcher counter have really improved my knowledge in terms of cuts of meats, what to use and how to prepare various dishes. I feel really comfortable asking them for advice. Terry runs the natural medicinal product section and she is an absolute gem. She takes the time to help explain options for treating a tummy aches to addressing dry skin. The hot foods and salad bar is great for those times when you don't have time or even feel like cooking at home or making a mess. It is faster than "fast food" and tastes great and is very satisfying in the way a greasy drive thru meal in a bag just 'isn't. If you don't already know the staff get to know them they are on a first name bases with their customers (I don't think it is just me) and they will treat you like family! read more

This is a store for quality local and specialty products. If the prices are a factor, come on Super Saturday (first Saturday of each month) for a 10% discount on everything. And seniors get a 10%discount every Tuesday. I was shopping with my 5 yr old and 2 yr old and we had gone into your store in Sebastopol for a chocolate muffin the evening of May 18th. That's the only thing we had planned to buy and it was the only thing we bought. As me and the kids were bagging the muffin, which I was letting my 5 yr old daughter help me with, one of your employees and a customer she knew by name came up to me and complained my kids had coughed three times on the muffins. I grew ABSOLUTELY irate and told them to mind their own business! I ripped into them and let them know that all I wanted was a chocolate muffin for my kids and that they needed to mind their own business. I don't like people addressing me in public about my kids and how they act, I'm assuming this is pretty normal for most parents! When it come to my kids, my paternal instinct will kick in, they're off limits and I will raise hell about it. It doesn't matter how angry I get no matter what the subject is, that's not something I should or have to worry about when dressed down by another person when it pertains to my kids! Your employee and the customer she knew by name, then proceeded to publicly shame me that there were social norms and that I was a bad parent and example to my kids due to my daughter coughing on the muffins and my anger. They tried to explain there were social norms and that coughing on the muffins was not ok. This I totally agree with, coughing on the muffins is definitely not OK. But, I did not see my kids cough on the muffins. We even used the little plastic sheet because we would never touch a muffin in the case with our hands! Growing even more angrier as you employee and her friend kept talking to me; your employee then said I was a bad example to my kids with my anger. I told them to mind their own business and that I didn't even notice my kid had coughed on the muffins, which I honestly didn't notice with two kids who were very excited to get a chocolate muffin. Imagine, we are all in the muffin section as this is going down with a kid in my arm and the other clutching a muffin! Honestly, even if my kids coughed on the muffins, if this the fight your staff want to pick with everything else going on in their day? Whether they did cough or not, that's not the point. Your employee helped another customer engage me in a public shaming and dressing down in front of other customers and my kids. Your employee also tried to dress me down and asked me if I understood what social norms were, that's the biggest thorn I have in my side. Nothing against grocery store staff but I do not want or expect a grocery store employee dressing me down about what social norms are! It's obvious your staff aren't well trained in customer service and how to engage customers. Your employee will argue differently as she repeated said I was out of line. She even said I acted like I had dipped my fingers into the hot bar! If she argues against this statement I really want to know! Your employee did not get the full picture and decided on her own what was right and wrong based on her own idea of what social norms are. As far as I'm concerned, my kids never coughed on the muffins. I didn't see it. So, is your employee calling me a liar? If she is, I'd like to get it on record. As a customer, at the end of the day you're a grocery store. We go there to buy good healthy food and go home happy. We don't go there because you are the local standard bearers of social norms. I understand you sell yourself as an alternative hippie store, but enough is enough. You're a grocery store at the end of the day and we don't care what your employees think about social norms. Even if my kid coughed on the muffins, I'm so sorry, she's 5 and he's 2. It happens, deal with it. Your employee and staff obviously don't know how to manage customer expectations because she did a really great job of pissing me off! Why would you confront a customer with two small kids in such a weird way? When I got mad and explosive, your employee said I didn't handle it well! Why should I need to meet your employee's expectations on how I should act and handle a public dressing down in front of my kids? I was still very upset at the check-out and asked to speak to a manger. The checkout clerk summoned a manager and the same women who engaged me came up and said she was the manager. I told her there was no way I was going to talk to her and asked to speak with her supervisor. That's when Zack showed up. The woman then said she was going to stay for the conversation, that's how combative she was! I found it very interesting that I was going to file a complaint onsite and the person I've been arguing with has told me she was going to be in the complaint conversation with her manager. Recently moved from San Francisco and found that for the most part, Pacific Market gives me everything I could find in SF. I have found the meat and poultry department the equal to my market in SF and dairy, vegetables to be absolutely fine as well. My experience with the staff has been very good as well. Other reviews speak of poor service but that hasn't been my experience at all. As to products sold after the sell by date, well, can you read? I think that if you have enough consciousness to drive a car, you should be able to read the sell by date. Take some responsibility folks. read more

I used to shop here two to three times a week, spending 50-75 dollars each visit. I really liked the selection of pre-made foods, the nice deli & meat section and specialty items. But the negatives started adding up over time, and I refuse to go here any more. A number of things happened - I got a rude checker once. They charge $8 lb for things like cooked rice or vegetables from the hot case (I can go a number of other places within walking distance & pay WAY less). And I tried to return an item that I discovered had been opened (the gentleman I spoke to about this at the store basically told me it wasn't their problem). Little things just started to add up. The final straw was when they started charging for each individual slice of bacon at the breakfast bar. As if charging $8 a pound for scrambled eggs & potatoes wasn't bad enough, now you want 75 cents for each slice of bacon? Look, I like this store - but you have to give me a reason to want to come in and buy something - and not try to suck every last penny from my pocket. Have some good deals on some items, and stop charging so much for the hot case items that are inexpensive to begin with. I wasn't surprised when I read in the paper recently that this stores sales were down & that they had been sold. read more

PIacific Market is expensive for some items; I don't buy everything here. I will say that my husband I tried to divide and conquer one day; we went to two different stores -- Pacific Market and Andy's -- and used our cell phones to compare prices on things like milk, yogurt and butter. Much to my surprise, Pacific Market was less expensive for all of those items. I buy most of my meat at Pacific Market, as the meat is fresh, much of it is locally sourced, and the butchers are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Like many others, I am also a big fan of "Annie, the Cheese Lady." She loves to help people select wonderful cheese AND she's a delightful human. read more

I see from the reviews that others have had the same experience, buying a food and finding out at home that it is well past the expired or best by date. I got sick from a cheese that had been packed some six months earlier. It was slimy and smelled off. Brought it in, the manager sniffed it, said that is how dry jack smells (like I've never had dry jack cheese!), gave me my money back but no apology, acknowledgement,or pulling the cheese so other people don't get sick. They are conveniently located so I still occasionally grab a couple of things, but mostly I shop at Andy's now. I am surprised the health department hasn't shut them down. read more
