BEWARE OF THE WISDOM Tooth scam! My boyfriend now my husband , back in April 2021 was periodically encouraged by Dr Hyook Lim, that his wisdom teeth needed to be pulled out . There was really no need but it was a constant pitch. So my boyfriend at the time agreed and the wisdom tooth extraction was severely botched!! it went bad to the point where excruciating pain had occurred along the jawline and that is when he decided to end the procedure . A few years later, he started to have problems with that tooth so upon review from a DDS, an oral surgeon was going to have to get involved so we decided to request records from Dr Hyook Lims office. Please note: when you ask for the records they ask you specifically what are the records for?! For personal for legal, Etc. There's a reason why..... Upon reviewing of the records, we read total mischaracterized of the incident, when a grievance was filed against her and clearly left out the perspective of the patient. I understand that the assistant had to go along so that she would not lose her job. My advice do not have this lady use the whole wisdom tooth extraction pitch!! Dr. Lim is the real deal. She is thorough, warm, patient, and extremely knowledgeable regarding her practice. I was impressed by her multi-cultural approach and technical prowess in handling a wide array of patients from differing backgrounds. There's a specialized non-invasive camera she uses (unlike any other I've seen before) to examine your teeth WHILE you're able to look watch the examination screen with her. She's willing to go the extra step to answer questions you may have about what you see on the screen mid-procedure. She is most certainly not one of those dentists who either a) treats you like a number or b) babbles incessantly. I highly recommend her office. My family and I have been a few times. My husband hasn't seen a dentist in years and needed work done. They are always running behind and always double book patients. Last time I went for 2 fillings and I was there for 2.5 hours! I was their first appointment of the day, at 9:30 am and I was there before any of the staff was. They were just opening up the business at 9:35 am, not prepping patients. They didn't even apologize for being late. The receptionist told me how Dr. Lim was going to be mad they opened late and that she thought it was funny when Dr. Lim got mad. Very unprofessional. Dr. Lim always goes back and forth between patients all the time and you could be sitting there for 30 minutes in the chair waiting for them to come back. When I asked her to speak to me in English, she still constantly speaks to me in Spanish/Spanglish. After I have sat down in the dentist chair and been examined by Dr. Lim but before I get any work done, the receptionist comes to me with a cost breakdown so I can approve. Makes sense. But always insist I pay right there while I wait for the dentist to come work on me. Once she asked if I'd like to pay then or after I was done, I told her after I was done and then she insisted I pay right then. Why give me an option then? It seems to be all about the money at that office. They are very disorganized and they always have to repeatedly ask the same questions over again. My first time there I saw a piece of paper taped to the light arm that said "Make sure you do your duty correctly. I would like to make it clear that I go to the dentist regularly and unfortunately due to covid my office closed so I tirelessly was looking for an office to handle a cleaning for me and specifically find an office that can help my fiancé with care and understanding. We just signed up for Medicare since our career paths don't offer insurance and we are on the road 11 months out of the year in a new city every two weeks. I was due for my cleaning, I was not concern for me but I was also looking over my partner and staying by his side and rubbing his arm, talking him through how important this is health and to prepare for a good start to get the perfect smile he deserves. THAT IS NOT THE OUTCOME HE RECEIVED AT THIS FACILITY. My partner gets sick and can't sleep before the dentist he is completely traumatized and hearing his stories from his past broke my heart and I wanted to do everything possible to make this right. So we go to Dr Lim and boy he was degraded the worst possible way. Sitting in a chair listening to someone making unprofessional comments about him and opinions on being with my partner. Also, when told his molars will need to come out, there was no explanation as to why, no presentation to alternatives no display of compassion. Just faces and nasty comments and saying things like "it's useless to try and save anything" without a why. No root canal? Why? Explain? Get him on the same page. Fill me in to. I'm the one that's been trying to help him get the courage to go in just so they can validate the point of never wanting to go. Because of treatment like this. We did the hard part, go there and find solutions, get answers, get a deep cleaning. But no. Didn't even open his mouth. Once we left the office, he was in tears and felt so low for a long time. I called the office the same day. Me still trying to make this work I called the office. Nausea or Natasia? Answered I said, "I understand your waiting room is full if you can please call me before you close today so we can be on the same page and see what happen today" never called me I waited two days and called Friday, I spoke with her again and I was bringing up my concerns and what happen. She was not hearing me out and did not take responsibility for anything!!! Anything!!! Very condescending! When she herself while doing my cleaning told me Dr. Lim can be grumpy and rude. That was not reassuring at all. I did not get anywhere with her and she did not see anything wrong with the comments and doing something drastic like taking someone's molars out WITHOUT EXPLAINING TO THE PATIENT WHY. Or alternatives. They knew how scared he was, they knew he was the priority, they knew it was not an easy case. I expressed my concerns before hand and it was just went out the window because of someone being grumpy and someone was past their hour lunch break. Please don't go here. For someone that put in so much time to find the right place, THIS IS NOT IT! We found a new dentist in La Cañada and told them everything that happen from start to finish and were completely applaud, sick to their stomach and told us that is completely unprofessional. We were the test trial of a new dentist spot for my other five family members. They couldn't believe it themselves. The patience and compassion Dr. Lim has during dental treatments amazes me every time. She is gentle with your mouth, doesn't rough handle you. She treats you with respect and dignity. I highly recommend Dr. Lim. First, her office staff are very nice and make you feel comfortable and welcome. It was the first time that I felt so comfortable in a dental office. The dentist explained everything in detail about the work she needed to do and even showed me a few videos to better understand and to highlight the importance of her point. Best Dentist I've ever been to? Very Comforting and great environment. My mouth has never felt better after being with Dr. Lim.

It's rare you meet a doctor where you say "yup this is my doctor." Well at least for me. I am very distrusting by nature for reasons I won't go into right now. Anyways, Dr. Lim has been super honest, seemingly to always have my best interests at heart. She has always told me, almost urged me even, to always seek a second opinion for procedures she recommends. She will even go as far to say that different professionals will have different opinions on what the best course of action is. Dr. Lim has seen me through a root canal (which she referred out to an endodontist-- giving me 3 options) as well as a recent tooth extraction (which she performed herself). Let me just say that a tooth extraction is probably the worst dental procedure you could ever have lol-- and it was painless technically, although damn I will take better care of my teeth now. I don't think Dr. Lim will be the "cheapest" dentist around, but I believe she is very affordable and will do her best to work with your situation if you are honest with her. She has a bright bubbly personality and overall she makes me feel as comfortable as one could be at the dentist. Cheers. read more

Honest and truthful review: Very disappointed in the service I have received here so far. Speaking with my insurance I should not be paying anything having to do with a regular cleaning, anything extra is out of pocket, cool. First appointment I paid 5$ for I have no idea but that's ok shame on me for not asking. 2nd appointment dentist didn't show, got a call hours later dentist had an emergency need to reschedule ok cool. 2nd attempt at 2nd appointment I'm thinking I'm getting a regular cleaning right, nope they are quoting me 65$ for periodontal cleaning, saying it's necessary. Crap well being a single, student, living on her own, I need to be prepared to give 65$ may not be a lot to some but for me it is. Ok so reschedule again. So called the insurance to get some clarification on things, per them I should not be paying for a regular cleaning, $0. But they needed procedure codes to give me clarification. So, 3rd attempt at 2nd appointment I ask the necessary questions regarding paying and procedures codes and what not still needed the procedure so I was ready for it that day so I paid for it, got my receipt with the codes and prices and they scheduled me an appoint for 8/17. So a week before my appointment I get a message saying doctor has a seminar to go to need to reschedule my appointment. I called back sometime later left a message, never got a call back. Called a couple days ago got a new appointment for today 11:30. I get there sign in and sit. Sometime later assistant calls me up saying 65$...to my surprise I'm shocked I'm thinking I'm getting a regular cleaning covered under my insurance. So I simply say oh no this time should be a cleaning not the procedure I needed last time I was here. She's says yea that what it will be. So I'm like well it shouldn't cost me anything, and she says well last time it was 65 so it will be the same. We're not understanding each other so I say, from what I understand my last appointment was an extra procedure necessary on top of my cleaning, she says yes and I go well I don't want that this time I would like just a regular cleaning. She has me sit. Calls me up again and says the doctor can do 55... I'm like for what though what am I getting today that I'm not understanding im paying for. She said a regular cleaning with extra stuff I said no I don't want that just a cleaning, she is looking so confused and I'm like ok how about we cancel my appointment today and I call my insurance because there a miscommunication somewhere. Go to my car get my receipt from last time and go back in. So there's 3 things on my receipt two things having to do with cleaning that's say 0$ and one says antibiotic 65$. I'm like ok so here my receipt (speaking with the dentist at this point) and she takes it and asks who gave me this I said this is my receipt from my last appointment. She proceeds to say yea this is a cleaning periodontal cleaning with antibiotic. Goes on google to look up the code and everything I'm like ok great. Is that necessary for today? She says periodontal cleaning is every 3 months (mind you my appointment was in April I believe), but insurance only covers every 6 months. So today would be an extra appointment not covered, I go hm ok now that makes more sense why was this not said last time, or this time by your assistant, who was just completely confused. This is where I always have issues with dentists because they try and pump you for all your money, people don't ask enough questions but I definitely do I don't have money just to be wasting. But anyways so she goes would you like to schedule your 6 month I'm like let me call and schedule (I get a new class schedule around the time she suggested so I don't know what days I'll have open). Heres where I'm questioning things, one, so per my receipt and the assistant and the dentist my last appointment was a regular cleaning with an added antibiotic. I'm not sure why the assistant was so confused when I said I didn't want the extra things just the regular cleaning my insurance covers. Two, why is an antibiotic required for a regular cleaning? Three, if I say I don't want the antibiotic why can't the cleaning be done today, especially because this is an already reschedule appointment, for something she was not being transparent about. Customer service here people. I had a feeling something was going to happen today and lord and behold. I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt because they are around the corner from my house but today I think was my last straw. I will be calling the insurance to have me reassigned. read more

They are understaffed and disorganized. Over the last year they have 3 different receptionists. The front desk receptionist did my cleaning well the dentist worked on finishing up another patient. And she did not do a thorough job. First time I ever left a dental cleaning and felt like man I need to get another cleaning... Dr Lim is a very good dentist, I felt she knew what she was doing and did a good job repairing a tooth I had a major issue with. But I would not recommend this office to anyone. When I went in after 3 phone calls to get my insurance all worked out, they still did not have insurance approval. The dentist was literally walking out for lunch at my apt time. I said I have an apt, she said well shes trying to figure out your insurance this can take up to an hour and blamed the insurance. I rescheduled after taking that day off of work. Called my insurance and got a hold of someone instantly and get approval, they were just too disorganized and busy to do their part properly. My wife took my kids our 2 kids in,,, the same thing. They didn't have their insurance ready. They said they were working on their internet, it took over an hour. My wife had to sit there with a 3 and 4 yr old. By the time they were seen my son did ok, but my daughter was not very cooperative. She was scared and the dentist did not have an easy time with her. My wife said the dentist kept speaking in Spanish, she would tell her she don't speak Spanish, so she would go back to English and then finish in Spanish,,, over and over. Dr Lim stated my daughter had no cavities, everything looked ok, but that she would have to see a specialist. My wife was confused if she was saying she needed to see a specialist for a specific reason or if she was saying moving forward she needs to see a specialist just cause she was not cooperative. So my wife replied, I thought you said she was fine, no cavities, you did the cleaning, didn't you complete her exam? Dr Lim replied, "I already explained this" with a frustrated look on her face. I believe her English/Spanish created a confusion and my wife was not in the mood to go back and forth with her. She got the kids and left. My wife called me clearly bothered by the experience. I knew exactly how that place is, so I called the dentist to see what they had to say and make sure my insurance thats on file was used and accepted. They said the insurance was fine, receptionist apologized a few times, which verified to me of my wife's experience. I told her no problem, its difficult with the kids, that I understood. She replied yeah your wife looked like she was having a bad day. To me something I take offense to after their issues caused a 1 hr apt delay. And something unprofessional to say the least. When I got home my wife said the dentist called her and said that she CAN see my daughter moving forward, that a specialist is not needed. I think they understood they were going to loose our business and were trying to keep us. I had to go back to get my daughters exam paperwork for school signed. I explained what I needed, Dr Lin replys in Spanish. I say I don't speak Spanish. She smiles and replys in English, then asks the receptionist a question then turns to me and tells me something in Spanish, she smiles and walks away. The receptionist looked at me like IM SORRY, and then translated what she said. Then I ask the receptionist how much a crown replacement would cost. I had an idea because i had one done a few months back. But our insurance coverage changed, so I was hoping it would be much less out of pocket this time. She says she wouldnt be able to tell me now, she would have to check. I said okay can you call and let me know. She says let me check now... LOL a few moments pass she says basics, fillings, cleanings, 100% covered, specialty work, like crowns, implants 50% covered. I say oh ok! So how much is a crown? She says oh we cant tell you that till we turn the paperwork in for the request. I said I got a crown done last year, they had a price list, my insurance covered a small portion and I had to pay the rest, did your price list change? She says no, but the insurance only covers so much. (OBVIOUSLY!) I say I understand that, but your prices are set, my portion is what changes depending on my insurance, thats why I want to know how much you guys charge for a crown. She says well crowns cost $750. So id pay %50 of that, so about $375. This place makes the simplest things difficult. If you are in a rush and need something fixed quick this might be a good spot to do that. But for longterm family dentistry this is not the place. We will not be going back. read more

This Dentist was recommended to me by my family because she is so detailed and thorough in her work. I drive from Sherman oaks to Monterey Park because I love her level of service! She is among the best! Over the years I have been to dentists that I had to return for them to properly complete failed dental work i.e. filling came out or tooth not shaved evenly, so my "bite" is off. I have never had to return to this dentist to fix a mistake. I don't have to waste my time returning unnecessarily because she does such great work the first time. It's a boutique dental office with easy parking and everyone is nice. It's takes much longer for me to get there from Sherman oaks but it's worth it because I know I'm getting it done right! read more

She has many clients so the time there may be extra. She showed me the problems, gave me a nice filling on a big cavity, gave me a referral for the problems in my mouth, and got me an upgrade cleaning. BEWARE OF THE SUGGESTED TOOTH EXTRACTION!! My bf had gone to this dentist for a total time of about a year in a few months; everything was fine . Throughout the course Dr.lim suggested and talked about his wisdom tooth..., maybe they should be extracted or pulled. there was no medical necessity...but she kept mentioning it over a period of time and my bf finally agree.(stupidly). But on the day of the tooth extraction, it went terribly wrong! Apparently she'd had to really get in there, to the point. she almost forgot that she was actually working in somebody's mouth. Well the tooth cracked so she needed to go back in to continue to extract the remaining portion. Or so that was said. Dr Lim caused a sharp pain along much of my bf jawline. At that point, he was done ! although she tried to convince him to calm down, and made him appear like he was the caused of the problem; eventually he had to tell her three times" we're done " because of the pain. She went on to explain that she has to stop the bleeding so after a few gauges, my bf left the chair. But of course. He had to take care of the co-payment, co Insurance liability fee right!? that's important right.!? So as my bf is standing in the waiting room with a gauze in my mouth due to the bleeding of a botched extraction, Dr Kim continued trying to talk to my bf. To convince him that everything is alright, (with another tooth extraction pending)..... What Dr. Lim FAILED TO UNDERSTAND, when she caused the pain during the extraction, the patient lost faith and trust and confidence in her as a dentist!
