We wanted to make some improvements to our rustic back yard, including a hummingbird/butterfly-friendly garden and expansion of our paver patio. This company had installed our patio a few years ago, so we called them out to discuss the patio extension. We were so pleased with the job they did for us on the initial installation that there was never a question that we would use them for the expansion. During our consultation with Ken Avner, we mentioned that we were interested in a water feature in the garden. We had in mind something fairly simple -- a bubbling bird bath, or ceramic jars with a bubbler -- something along those lines. Ken pointed out that the 3-foot high meandering river rock retaining wall that crosses our yard adjacent to the patio and separates the upper level of the yard from the lower level, where the patio is, was the perfect setup for a stream and waterfall, and asked if we had ever thought about that option. We were intrigued, but had many questions. He spent a lot of time discussing how it might be laid out, how the reservoir and pump would work, maintenance, etc., and showed us pictures of similar projects they'd done at other homes. After considering it for several days, we decided to go forward with the water feature and the patio extension. In addition, we had them install a paver path to our pool and a paver pad for some lawn chairs in our front yard. The installation went very smoothly. We did have one minor hiccup near the end, and it occurred on a Friday late afternoon. I called the Project Manager, Jorge, and he assured me that someone would be there the next morning. At 8:00 a.m. Saturday, someone was there to take care of it. When I apologized to the young man (Luis) that he had to come out so early on a Saturday, he cheerfully replied, "No worries. The customer comes first." You don't often experience that attitude these days. Both crews (paving crew and water feature crew) were so professional and easy to work with. There was a lot of physical labor (digging, hauling boulders manually, etc.) involved during some of the hottest weather of the summer, but that did not delay them. They were punctual, respectful of our property and really good about answering our questions. Project Manager Jorge and Aaron supervised the crews and kept us advised of the progress. They succeeded in integrating the stream and waterfall with the pre-existing river rock wall so well, you would never know that the water feature was added long after the rock wall was installed (decades ago). Likewise, it is impossible to tell where the patio extension begins, it is woven so well with the existing patio. We are so thrilled with the result. The stream and waterfall look very natural. The sound of the running water is soothing. The hummingbirds and songbirds love the water -- splashing in the stream and drinking. We have had several parties in the yard since the installation, and everyone comments on how nice the patio is and how natural the stream and waterfall look. We have breakfast on the patio every weekend morning, and really love the sound of the water and watching the birds. My husband is getting ready to become semi-retired, and we look forward to spending even more time enjoying our wonderful yard. I cannot recommend this company highly enough! Review 10/24/18 I cannot say enough good about this company and my praise does not come easily as we have had many more bad contractors than good. Because of that my expectations are always on the weary side when choosing any contractor...not a pessimist...just experienced. Pacific Pavingstone completed our middle yard pavers recently. The first half of our driveway was completed earlier by another company (which I will not mention as our experience was not good). So this new job entailed taking the already existing pavers and matching them to make the yard look consistent, and completing the job in a more skilled way. My first encounter with Pacific Pavingstone was with Ken Avner, my sale expert. He was not only an expert in this arena, but so helpful in making us understand HOW the pavers must go in. His knowledge allowed us to understand why the first half of the driveway was not installed correctly and helped us to pursue a fix on the incorrectly installed area. With his advice, we were able to get the original contractors to fix our $25,000.00 investment of the first half of the driveway. We are very grateful to Ken for both his competency and his honesty. Watching the Pacific crew helped me understand how the work should have been done. The entire crew was amazing. All the workers, Martin, Gabriel, Jamie and Jose Miguel were efficient and knowledgeable as well and worked fast and efficiently. They worked with me without resentment and listened to everything I requested. They were extremely accommodating as I am a bit of a stickler for detail. Onecimo was the foreman and handed me his card in case I needed to communicate anything that went wrong. He was always available and very helpful whenever needed. Not once did he disappear. He was present throughout the entire job. What a miracle. At the end of the job they actually had their quality control guy come out to look at the final product. I think his name was Giovanni? Ken also kept checking on us and stepped up to make sure I was happy about the job. Anyway, Giovanni was wonderful and grilled me to make sure that there were no more tasks that I felt needed to be completed. It was very evident that all involved took pride in their work. They all were concerned that I was happy. Because they all cared about that I was absolutely blown away. Before we began the whole process, we secured many different estimates. All basically came in financially around the same amount. But construction is a tricky game. You can get similar costs but you never really know the degree of skill or care those contractors will provide. I will never use any other for the same work. This job was for demolition and replacement of an existing driveway and sidewalk. It was a bit challenging due to planning for the slopes and drainage issues involved. The sidewalk was owned by the city so permits had to be pulled for that. I contacted several concrete contractors for estimates. Most never returned calls or after coming out to see the job site, without explanation, never returned bids. I signed a contract with one contractor and he would never commit to any start date. I was so happy that I discovered Pacific Outdoor Living. They sent a representative out to examine the job site and he returned a bid the next day. They coordinated the permit and inspection by the city. Pacific Outdoor Living promised a quick start and job completion and they met their promise. We needed quite a bit of work done in our driveway; We got three quotes. All three were pretty comparable in price; however, Pacific Pavingstone of Los Angeles went above and beyond the rest. Along with the quoted price they created a color visual of what our driveway would look like when it was completed and did not charge for the computer generated drawing. Once we signed up, Craig, the designer offered his expertise in regards to the type of designs. He brought several samples and left them with us so we could decide on the final design. We weren't sure what we actually wanted so Craig created a design for us and we loved it. The work started pretty quickly. Craig and his team worked very hard and long hours, every day until the job was done to our satisfaction. Craig has a lot of experience and made a few helpful suggestions to make the driveway even more attractive. I first learned about Pacific Paving stone/Pacific Outdoor Living at the Pasadena Show Case House of Design. Their garden, driveway and walkway designs caught my attention for three consecutive years. I then visited their showroom and my husband and I contracted them to replace the circular driveway at the front of our house with pavers from their large selection of paving stones. The completed driveway was very attractive and has given us years of service. 2 years later we contracted them to constrict a walkway around the perimeter of our house. A few years later we again contracted them, this time to repave our sloping driveway from the street to the garage at the rear of our home. The result was spectacular and the driveway so well engineered that despite it's very steep slope, no water ever entered the garage. Don't choose the cheapest bidder! We learned from our neighbor who went with the cheapest bid for paving his driveway and it was one mistake after another. We choose Pacific Pavingstone because from start to the finish they were knowledgeable, completely professional with no BS and they did exactly what they promised and more at each turn in the project which had some complexity to it. In the beginning I didn't believe that having their own crew instead of handing it off to a sub-contractor made a difference, but it did because their crews from demolition through installation and sealing really cared about making sure we were pleased and went out of their way to communicate and respond to our concerns since they were long time employees and acted like it was their company. I just completed a hardscape project, which consisted of replacing an old ugly path of bricks and gravel with beautiful Cobbler II paving stones along the length of my property. This required grading for drainage, laying pipes to connect gutter downspouts, and redoing sprinkler lines. I also placed flagstone pavers on both sides of my front lawn and created paving stone steps as an entry to my backyard grass. It is beautiful!! It was not inexpensive, but the professionalism, workmanship, and efficiency of the project staff made it well worth the expense. Pacific Pavingstone completed our driveway and sidewalk paving stone extension on time and on budget. Our city required a Public Works permit to install the new driveway. The areaway for the driveway turned 90 degrees to enter the garage. We wanted to increase the width of the apron at the street so we had a larger turning radius to use. The existing grade to street level was steep along with a change in elevation from the garage into the backyard. Working with Terry and Craig we came up with solutions that the city approved, which required a property line survey, a wider asphalt patch and a step down into the backyard. Update 2/1/19 The design of the steps, area drain from the sidewalk under the driveway to the street has worked perfectly. I recommend Pacific Pavingstone. read more

Coincidentally, a few acquaintances of ours have also had their driveways done by Pacific Pavingstone. Ken Avner helped us select a beautiful color pattern. What helped me the most was Ken's accessibility when you called him. He called you right back. The parking area was quite large and paving stone created a computer image with the design for us to evaluate. Ken supervised by coming by the job every day. The actual job superintendent was one of the best I have ran across. He was an expert in every aspect of the process. Our driveway was in need of a major overhaul. We met with three paving stone companies. We selected Pacific Pavingstone because of their outstanding online reviews and we definitely liked that they did all their work in-house. (Their price was several thousand cheaper than the most expensive paving stone company we met with, too.)
