Lucky Seafood is a very small seafood market offering a variety of exotic live seafood, including live crabs. They have two tanks for the Dungeness crab, one with a larger crabs and one with smaller crabs. There is very limited street parking so try to get there early. And they only take cash. That was my first red flag, but I still supported this business. I came here to purchase live crab for the holiday season, about $300 worth, then I came back to purchase the same amount a week later for New Year's eve, just to receive the worst service I've ever experienced considering how much money I was spending. The guy got upset when I wanted to look at the crab he was trying to quickly throw in the bag without me seeing it, so he got mad and just dropped the bag on the floor and said "here you look at it!" and he walked away leaving me there with a bag of live crab to search through. I spent a lot of money at this store for the treatment that I've received and after this experience I decided it was the last time. I now go to green fish in Chinatown where they also have live seafood offerings and the customer service is much better. Lucky Seafood also smells really bad inside and green fish does not. This may be due to freshness or lack thereof. 7

The woman at the register was very kind and gave me a heads up that they are open tomorrow as well, but they may run out of blue crabs by then. Also, right now they have a bunch of Dungeness crab. Depending on the size they vary from $10.99-$12.99/lb. There is also a small selection of produce for anything you're looking to pair with fresh seafood. Btw! The floor is VERY slippery. Please be careful.

Today, I arrived around 2:30p. There were still items available, for me they were my second or third go to items - although I did get a couple firsts. At Tokyo Fish Market, I get my mochi fix (ice cream and shelf), eel and mackerel sushi, tamago and tako sashimi, unagi musubi and onigiri, tako and seaweed salad, flavored aloe waters and chicken katsu (for lil one). All things Japanese can be found here to satisfy whatever craving you may have. I have been coming here for over 20 years now, the quality has never varied - always excellent. I have made special requests, last minute, staff are great at trying to accommodate if they can. I definitely recommend Tokyo Fish Market to locals and those in surrounding areas. The prices are super reasonable. There is definitely no other place like it around here. Only con, parking, especially if you arrive the first few hours after they open. Their parking lot is small and tight, fitting three cars and ADA when you first enter and three to four cars before the exit. There is metered street parking directly in front and down the block, including across the street. It is about a 5 minute drive from the Gilman exit, make a left at the light right after Berkeley Bowl. I get off the Albany exit and ride down San Pablo so I can try to park on the same side as the market. If the weather is nice out, grab your wants from here, take a blanket (all have benches, availability limited) then drive to a nearby park for a picnic and play. Options include Aquatic Park, Cedar Rose Park and Strawberry Creek Park (5 min drive) to Berkeley Marina and Caesar Chavez Park (10 min drive with an off leash dog park onsite and a pathway circling the water). Enjoy!

I'm a pro at handling these critters, but nearly lost a finger between sink and steaming pot. The counter staff are especially friendly, fun and knowledgeable. Well, they have and done so in spades. The store is spotless, organized fairly intuitive to shop and staffed by friendly and helpful folks. Product selection will not compete with H-Mart nor Kukje, but who cares when the quality (and price) are far superior. Yeah, the huge restaurant in the center is a bit odd considering it's expensive, and did I mention huge? The Bakery is fire. I heart Sulppang. Ladies that work there are very nice. If you gave up on Jagalchi initially, I encourage you to give it a go and experience it again for the first time.

The ones at Kukje Supermarket taste more flavorful. This one lacks the same sesame oil aroma on the seaweed that I expect from kimbap. It also seems like they don't roll their kimbap by hand here. The rice is also a bit bland. Next, I tried the beef bibimbap. This one comes with half a container of rice underneath. The amount of meat is very little in proportion to the rice. The best part of this dish was the variety of veggies especially the bracken. There is also a packet of sesame oil buried inside, so watch out for that. The biggest problem with this dish was the rice. I'm not sure if I picked the wrong batch, but the rice tasted like it was starting to spoil, like it's been sitting outside all day. It would've been easily overlooked if you mixed all the gochujang sauce together with it. Maybe, the bibimbap should be stored in the heated or refrigerated display case instead of out in the open. I circled back to the fresh kimbap section after my meal. I saw a rat scurry across the floor and go under the display case. Another customer and I exchanged looks of belief. Now I don't feel so good about my meal I just had.
