After we ordered, they didn't even bring water for 10min, and my drink another 5min after that..... then came the food which well.... 1. Highlands Bloody Mary $12 (menu says $15) "ketel one, spicy bloody mary mix, lemon, lime, celery salt, celery, olives": Alright I gotta say this is a good Bloody Mary, especially since I've had so many crappy ones lately. It was thick and flavorful. Maybe just a bit of spice--can use a more though. Also, more alcohol please. 7/10 2. Fresh Catch Sandwich $27 "seasonal catch, lettuce, tomato, citrus aoli, brioche bun": Yeah so, .... it's nearly 30 bucks and it tasted... not 30 bucks. Fish was a bit dry, but not horribly. Stiff. Hard. Overall, ....no. 3/10 3. Clam Chowder $12 "fresh clams, bacon, yukon gold potatoes": Not bad. Very thick, but only medium in flavor. Despite the description, there ain't that much clams, and overall tasted light despite the thick viscosity. Kinda airy even. Interesting texture. I'd say for the soup it would be 5/10, but FYI the bread was so stale it was inedible. Like.... really? You're gonna serve bread that tastes like a brick? Pretty unprofessional. 2/10 4. Pei Mussels and Farm Bread $22 "garlic, shallots, white wine, butter, parsley": Mussels were clearly overcooked and chalky. Sauce was okay. 2/10 5. Dungeness Crab Side $14: I wasn't clear what this would be... but check out my pics. I left in my 1.5yr training straw cup for size, and the Bloody Mary next to it. I just don't get it--what's the point of poorly extracted crab sitting in a bowl? What am I supposed to do with this? 2/10 5. Coffee $5: It's $5. Need I say more? Me and my best friend came here for dinner after a day at carmel. We made a reservation for 6:30pm and arrived at our reserved time. Upon arrival the lady that seated us proceeded to say that they had no menus available and gave us a paper menu. With that we did not receive a drink menu, nor did they ask us what we wanted to drink. The lady who sat us proceeded to tell us that there was no window seating available for our reservation when there was indeed two empty tables for two people open, and clean. The vibe in there was completely negative like the workers did not want to be there. The food was pretty good but not worth the price/customer service. When I think about this Restaurant, I automatically think of the breathtaking views of the pacific coast. Whether it's in a room or the restaurant, my goodness you get some beautiful sunrise, day, and sunset views that make you feel blessed to just be alive to witness nature's beauty. I've been to this restaurant a handful of times and each time was wonderful! They have nice and attentive staff members and the service is quite quick. I've had food from their breakfast, lunch and dinner menu and I've enjoyed each meal. From their eggs and potatoes to scallops and risotto. Not to mention their dessert! I was never a fan of crème brûlée until I had theirs. It's the best one I've ever tasted - highly recommend! There is also a wide selection of wines and cocktail drinks. Yes, their food is priced a little on the higher side, but you do get what you paid for - well cooked and flavorful dishes! Not to mention picture perfect. The restaurant tends to book up so if you plan on going, make sure you make a reservation! I personally have not attended an event there but I have witness a few weddings happening there when I have visited and they look gorgeous! Definitely a place to keep in mind for future events. Get a seat outside overlooking the coast. The deck has plenty of heat lamps and the view just can't be beat. I had their Point Lobos- which is an egg Benedict dish with Dungeness crab cakes. After a terrible experience in Pacific Grove, brunch here made up for it. Ordered the clam chowder (needed just a tad bit of salt) but the bread to dip it in was sooo good! Mussels were to die for -- the buttery bread for dipping and the sauce was outstanding. My crab benedict was one of the best I've had so far (and I love benedict's and have had quite a few in my lifetime), burger was good (although hard to judge especially since we had just had the the one at Nepenthe), Catch of the Day halibut fish sandwich was delish! Even their pistachio nut granola yogurt was good. Needless to say we will be back here. Service was excellent and servers were very friendly and helpful. We stayed at the Hotel and ate here the first night of our spring break. WhT can I say, the seafood was amazing, even my daughter enjoyed the Alaskan halibut. I had the ribeye steak and paired it with the ghost block reserved as recommended by Fidel. Wow. I don't drink much but that was an amazing experience. Okay so honestly the food here is mediocre but the VIEW is a 11/10! My fiance and I stumbled upon this place when we were driving down to Monterey and I wanted to stop for food. We just happened to be close by so we decided to get brunch here. The drive up was admitting kind of difficult with steep narrow roads but once you make it to the top it's all good! We were early so we sat outside on their patio and the view was just BREATHTAKING. Honestly such a romantic and beautiful place to dine! My fiance ordered the point lobos eggs benedict and I ordered a custom omelette and both were good but you can probably get the same quality food at any decent brunch place. But I'm still giving this place a 4/5 just for the views, honestly just so beautiful! read more

Excellent food options from breakfast to dinner. We enjoyed the steak frites for a lite dinner. The yogurt parfait and avocado toast were excellent as was the Big Sur breakfast for those with a bigger appetite. All staff were very kind and friendly. Visited for brunch on a Thursday morning and it was so empty and quiet! Almost too quiet, felt very bougie. The view was beautiful as the tables were right next to the window, looking down at the ocean. Parking is a little strange as everywhere says guest parking. But the man at the front informed us that we were able to park anywhere even if we weren't the hotel/inn guests. What we ordered: Point Lobos: 5/5 soo creamy and delicious. This had real crab meat which was an amazing addition to the classic eggs Benedict. PEI Mussels and Farm Bread: 5/5 we loved this too. There were plenty of mussels and the juice/sauce or whatever it is called is decadent and tasty, amazing with the bread. My boyfriend and I kept eating each other's food LOL. We also asked for extra bread :p Yogurt parfait: 5/5 the fruit was sweet and the yogurt was refreshing to cut the savory-ness of our main entrees. We dined at Pacific' s Edge last evening, April 10, 2022. It was a very special occasion...our 45th anniversary. We are staying at The Tickle pink Inn. Our table was wonderful, at the window looking out to the ocean and eventual sunset. We ordered two perfect manhattans, with Knob Creek bourbon, our favorite drink as we served them at our rehearsal dinner. We brought our own wine and the waiter kindly put it in an ice bucket. that was the extent of our surly waiter's kindness. As we were relaxing, reviewing what we experienced as a very disappointing menu selection, he kept trying to rush us along, asking 3 times if he could open the wine and pour. Our drinks were barely touched! the menu had few choices in all categories. Not what we hoped for to celebrate our 45th. Frankly this menu selection felt like we were at a high end McDonald's. They catered more to children with their selections. Surely dessert would be better? nope, nothing special..cheesecake, chocolate mousse and some other bland selection. Again, just what kids might eat I drank all y water and My water glass remained empty the entire meal. Thanks to the surly waiter's poor service attitude. $163.00 for our. Wry u special 45th anniversary celebration. Oh, and we did mention our special occasion. No one at this restaurant gave a hoot. DO NOT BOTHERWITH THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU WANT SOMETHING SPECIAL. The view was great but the service was not up to par. We made a reservation but had to wait 15 minutes to get seated. After 1 full hour we got our food. We were barely checked on throughout the dinning experience and notice the folks that ordered after us got their food right away. We were celebrating a birthday and noted that in our reservation but received nothing. Looking at the reviews looks like some other folks got birthday treats. At the end of our experience they told us they had to take our credit card to the front desk to make the payment because their machine was down. We waited another 15 minutes for them to come back to our table to only let us know that we must put in the tip total for them to authorize the food at their front desk. At this point we've already spent enough time waiting on their staff for service that we went up to the front desk to get this resolved ourselves. Would not recommend coming here base on the service. You will have to continually flag down the host and waitress to get any type of service. The food was mediocre as well. read more

Came in here twice while staying at the Hyatt, as others have pointed out, the view is priceless. First time in I had two drinks the first of which was whiskey drink that was pre-made and just poured out from a bottle. It was very strong, not a fan. Next asked for a slice of cheesecake. First bite tasted like it came frozen from a cheap supermarket. Second bite, found a large dead fly in it so away that went. Asked for a chocolate martini instead, finally a drink made by hand. First experience , 2*. Came back for breakfast which was much better though so 4* for that. Had the breakfast sandwich which tasted very fresh though the potatoes were soggy instead of crispy. read more

California Market at Pacific's Edge is a restaurant within the Hyatt Carmel Highlands hotel that has floor to ceiling windows providing breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. We came for brunch with a reservation and it was worth it for the food and view. Food: Excellent. Food was tasty with large portions and fair prices ($12-20 per dish). We ordered the Cinnamon French toast, Point Lobos Benedict (with dungeness crab), and the Seafood Cioppino. All were delicious. The french toast was large enough to share for two people and piled on with fresh fruit, benedict had fresh seafood, and the seafood cioppino had fresh mixed seafood in a light tomato broth. Service: As the other reviewers noted, service was slow and inattentive. This is a high class restaurant in ambiance but not in service. It took 10+ minutes to get our drink order, even longer to get our order out, and even longer to get our bill. Subtracting one star for the slow service. Ambiance: View is better in some parts of the restaurant (left side corner) because other areas have obstructed views from large trees. In general, you'll get a view of the ocean no matter where you are in the restaurant but the window tables will bring you closer to the water. The actual interior has a diner feel with purple carpet and needs to be updated ASAP. Valet parking is free at the front of the hotel. Don't try to find parking yourself, it's a windy mountain road that has tons of apartment complexes, other hotels, and lots of confusion mixed in with the hotel property. Just pull up to the front, valet, and tip the guys. read more

As expected for a luxury hotel restaurant in California, the menu is pricy. We're talking $6 for block coffee and an $18 avocado toast, the stuff of deep millennial existential financial anxiety. That being said, it was a delicious avocado toast with thick slices of fresh tomatoes. My husband had the Big Sur Breakfast Platter (standard eggs, toast, potatoes, sausage and bacon) and everything was expertly seasoned and well cooked. Service was outstanding. Awesome restaurant, a part of the Hyatt Highlands Inn, this is no chain ordinary hotel restaurant. Food places with a view have a bad rap and sometimes rightly so. But this place has the view--and the food to back it up. Due to the pandemic, they're operating with restricted hours--Breakfast, lunch, and "light bites" during evening, but the latter is filling. The preparations are refined and use fresh ingredients. We got a breakfast egg bacon arugula aioli sandwich with potatoes and cuz we didn't feel like driving out the rain, stayed here and got clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl along with their loaded hummus. The service is excellent, they went out of their way to seat us in front of the fireplace. A gentleman named Frederic built the fire so it would stay warm--it felt special and romantic. It's not cheap but worth it for the flavors, service, ambience. Just beautiful. read more

Stopped in at the old Highlands Inn to see how the Hyatt recreated it, and it's awesome! While walking through the lobby and gazebo and taking in the inspiring views of the coast, we saw this restaurant high above. It was a busy Saturday morning but decided to get brunch here. The corned beef hash and poached eggs was excellent. The Eggs Benedict was an outstanding classic! My Bloody Mary was perfectly spiced, and the mimosa was the perfect mix of fresh squeezed orange juice and champagne. And of course, this restaurant had the best view of anywhere in the new Highlands Inn! read more

We went there for dinner, as it recently reopened for their dinner service. I had been at the restaurant before several years ago, and was curious as to how it had changed from the last time I was there. Going into the restaurant, you are greeted with this otherwordly, 360 degree view of the surrounding area, overlooking the nearby forest area, and extending to the craggy coast outwards to the ocean, which certainly left an impression on me. After being seated, we were served refreshments, with the Voss water and the vast, different wine selections being a particular highlight. Soon after, we were greeted by the chef, which was a very pleasant experience. After scavenging through the menu, we decided to order a plethora of dishes in order to test the new seasonal menu. Having ordered the burrata here on previous visits, I already knew that it was excellent, as it was the best burrata that I had ever had. This time I decided to try the hamburger. While waiting for our main courses, we were served bread, which to my understanding was encrusted with rosemary and locally baked. It came as a nice surprise, as it was very fluffy on the inside, with just the right amount of salt. Although the wait for the hamburger was not particularly longevous, it was more than comfortable, given that one could take in that astounding view for hours on end. Moving on to the main course, the burger did not particularly distinguish itself flavour-wise, and personally seemed to be very close to a typical Marriott burger. While I appreciate its simplicity, I would say that it did require more of a wow-factor. Nevertheless, I did still enjoy it, as it was poor by no means. read more
