Had a reservation at 3:15pm on Thanksgiving day, not realizing they closed 15 min later. So we had the entire deck with ocean views to ourselves. We had to move from our first seat as the sun was directly in my eyes, but next spot gave me great views of the coast. We stayed until sunset. The view is nice and the meal is worth the hype as well. The calamari starter is expensive, but there was plenty, and it wasn't too oily...which can often be the case. Rabia got their thanksgiving meal (turkey and all the classic sides) which she raved about. My halibut sandwich was also quite good, if not a little expensive. Kids ate steak and fries that were a cut above the normal. Only negative was the service was a little cool. I'll chalk it up to us arriving around closing on Thanksgiving day. During our stay, we decided to have brunch here one morning because the views from the outdoor patio seating are breathtaking, Sadly, I was extremely disappointed in the menu, because it literally mirrored that of the standard Hyatt room service menu. So few choices, and really only 1 or 2 things that sound at all appetizing, those being the crab and spinach eggs benedict and the egg white omelette. The continental breakfast looked really sad and bare when walking by while being seated. Service was about as good as expected, although they need to do a better job of coming by to check on you, as they never refilled our water or came by to ask how we were doing. It was fairly busy that morning, but not packed by any means. Save for the fantastic view, it would earn fewer stars. read more

The atmosphere on friday nights is amazing. They have live music, dancing, breathtaking views, and awesome food. Fabulous views, good food & good service. We were there middle of Oct, on a day when there was a heat wave & the dining room was too warm. Many people fanning themselves with their menus. We had the tuna tartare (yums!), ceviche (just ok), short ribs (fork tender & yummy), black bass (again, yummy), chocolate bread pudding (tasted more like chocolate lava cake, just ok) & hazelnut cake (good). I had mentioned that it was DH's bday & they comped his dessert. The chef even made a little chocolate 'happy birthday' sign that they put on his dessert. We had reservations for a table outside on the deck and it was amazing and beautiful. We all ordered off of the menu but they do offer a continental breakfast that includes OJ, coffee and all you can eat fruit, cereal, oatmeal, baked goodies, cheese and crackers, etc. Our omelettes were all GREAT, the bacon was thick and crunchy, the coffee (Illy brand) was perfect, and we took our time talking and laughing and enjoyed the views. The deck area has outdoor heaters and after a while, it was actually too hot, so we asked them to turn the heater off. What a beautiful place. Breakfast for 4 came to about $70 without tip. The Waitress was great and brought our meals out faster than I expected. She checked on us several times and even brought my mom a free mimosa because it was her birthday. The views here are incredible and we enjoyed our wine selections, so for that I give two stars. However, everything else is mediocre at best. Service was very rushed- we sat down around 6:15 and I got the feeling they were trying to get another seating in before sunset. We had the mushroom soup, beets, filet mignon, and pork. All were "meh" except the filet, which was probably the worst I've had in any restaurant- way over-cooked and tough, even though ordered medium rare. This kind of food would be passable at a Chili's, but not at a restaurant when you're paying $100 a head for the meal. If you're here to enjoy the view, have a drink at the bar and then go somewhere better for dinner. read more

We have been coming up to Carmel for over 30 years, many times staying at your hotel and enjoying Pacific's Edge and Calif. Market...always excellent food and service. In fact, even after we booked our reservation, my wife called a week before the date and asked about the menu and was told that information was not yet available. Really? A week before? We were so disappointed and distraught by the entire meal that we skipped the cheese and dessert courses and did not stay for the party. Our New Year's Eve party plans were ruined. And while your manager did deduct $200 from our bill...that only accounted for some of the 20% gratuity ($129)...essentially nothing to make up for the inedible dinner. We just finished dinner here. The food, as others have suggested, only deserves a 2 star. It is worse than mediocre. We ordered appetizers : abalone and hamachi poki and clam chowder. They were just ok. For main dish we had 15 oz ribeye and the rack of lamb which were so tough and dry. I think outback steak even beat it by a yard. Dessert was real good we got the chocolate ganache. Anyway we got a 25 restaurant coupon and still it costed $150. The service is ok; a bit unsophisticated for this type of fancy place. Of course as everyone has said the ambiance is really phenomenal. Can't really beat it. It feels like you are on a nice cruise ship. I love this hotel though. It's got a really homey feel to it. You are paying a premium for indulgence. One tip if you want to stay here cheap. Do the timeshare for hyatt vacation club and you can get 3 nights at $99 each night. Not a bad deal. Beautiful view and decent food can not make up for terrible service at this restaurant. We were very disappointed that even though there were only 6 tables occupied we had to wait 15 minutes for server just to greet us. I mean bus boy passed our table 10 times and have not even brought water and/or bread. We had to get up and look for the hostess, who seemed to be not interested in her job at all to find out who our server was. This set a very awful vibe at our table, and we brought guests celebrating 30ies wedding anniversary. After we finished our lunch we had to wait for another 30 minutes for dirty plates to be cleared and even after then server was not anywhere near to ask for the desert and/or check. We left to go elsewhere to get a dessert. 1 star goes to food, although the clam chowder was watered down a bit. More over I found a pecan shell in my salad and while bringing this to the server attention all I've got is that he is not sure how it got there?! And no main dishes for lunch (I always expect 2-3 just regular plates), just salad and sandwiches. I mean, I am sorry but I can't justify poor menu selection with a wonderful view. I thought that the food was good but not exceptional. The ahi salad and the chicken sandwich were great. The only disappointing thing was the crab cake appetizer. The only thing I can say for this restaurant is that it has amazing views. As far as the food is concerned, it is really awful. Food is bland and overpriced. I ordered the fish and my wife ordered the ravioli. The fish had no taste and the ravioli was swimming in oil. We could have cooked a much tastier meal at home.
