Had a one hour paddle board lesson & on a different day a one hour rental. Amazing customer service, instruction, and guidance. Tim is so patient and you can tell he has a passion for what he does. It makes the experience that much more pleasurable. We were all beginners and a couple of my friends were not exactly comfortable in the ocean water. Tim made everyone feel so comfortable & safe. Took my first SUP Lesson with Tim last week. After a brief safety and technique intro we were out on the water. I had never tried SUP Paddle Boarding before so I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. It was so much fun! It's crazy how quickly you get the hang of it. In my first lesson I was able to improve my stroke, do 180 and 360 degress turns and it wasn't too difficult to keep my balance. Tim is a cool, chilled out instructor and he is vary patient. I've gone out on the water with him a couple of times since then and hope to continue improving at the sport. read more

My friend introduced me to this business because she has been on several lessons and tours with them. I enjoyed my first lesson so much because Tim is a great instructor. Just because someone is good at doing something doesn't mean they can teach, and that is not a problem with Tim! He just seems to use the right language and terms to explain things well, and is very patient. I signed up for a series of lessons/workouts. Their prices are very reasonable (compare the prices with just renting the equipment from others vs getting equipment AND a lesson with this company). And everyone should take a real lesson even if they think it's easy or that they have done it before. There is always something new to learn from a pro. And if you're way past lessons, go with them for the tours or workouts. It's so much better to have someone who knows the water, surroundings, insider tips, and has a passion for making sure you have a good time. I had a great experience with Paddle Method. It was easy to make a reservation and Tim and Dave were really cool. Prices are comparable to other companies in the area. They give you a 15 minute lesson for 1st timers and then make sure you're comfortable before you head out into the marina. The boards are in good shape and the they have life vests that wrap around your midsection so you don't get a weird tan line. Today was my first SUP lesson in a small group and he did an amazing job teaching us + preparing us all before we got out on the water. I felt very comfortable to get on the board in the water because he had walked us through each step before getting in. Once we were out on the water he was really great at helping each of us with instruction and is extremely patient. If this is a one time experience or you plan to keep paddling I highly recommend his classes. Before getting to Paddle Method in the Marina I was apprehensive about going because I hate trying things alone but Tim was super friendly and welcoming so that made it easy for me to attend alone plus everyone is super friendly! We just came back from our first time paddle boarding (July 20, 2014). These guys were great! We arrived a bit late but they were totally cool with it. There were 4 of us and we were all first timers. Tim did a great job teaching us the basics and also some tips to get us up and running. He was always very positive and encouraging. After going through some of the basics on land and then in the water, we headed out around the Marina for about 1.5 hours. It was definitely enough for a beginner. I came across Paddle Method while looking for board rentals in May and have been a regular customer both personally and professionally ever since. We had previous sup experience however the pointers that Tim gave us really took our basic knowledge to the next level and helped alleviate any fears about being on the water. I don't typically take the time to write these reviews but I have to say, I had an awesome experience with an afternoon of paddleboarding. My cousin was in from NY and wanted to try paddle boarding so I did some research for MDR and found on Yelp some great reviews on the Pro Sup Shop page which led me to Paddle Method. All the reviews were so good that I put in a call to set up a time for a Sunday outing. Tim who runs Paddle Method really was an awesome instructor and the Yelp reviewers had him spot on. He took his time to really show my cousin and I (both newbies) the ways of Paddle Boarding and was overwhelmingly knowledable of the sport. The day was awesome with beautiful conditions, beautiful women on paddle boards all around and Tim there lauging when I ditched in the water! All in all, it was a really awesome experience and I realized what a skill it is to learn, that there is so much more to the sport and it is a great workout and way to meet people. We had a group of 4 girls take a paddle lesson from Tim. He starts with a brief tutorial on the sand teaching technique & then takes you on the water to practice. When you are on the water he is there to help you during your practice time. We have since then just rented the boards 2 other times & Tim is still there to give you tips on improving you paddle board experience. I actually fell off into the water during my rental time & was having trouble getting back on. Out of no where Tim came paddling over to help teach me how to get myself back on the board. Now I have no problems getting back on. Today during our rental time it started thundering & lightening so Tim pulled us out of the water because he didn't feel it was safe. There were other places still giving lessons during this time. Come to find out at a near by beach there was man who died from the rare lightening strike & several others injured. Tim is a great instructor who is patient, kind, & always puts the paddlers safety first. We hope to keep paddling weekly with him! read more

As a competent pool swimmer but with limited ocean experience I was slightly apprehensive about my first paddle lesson! Not for long! Tim is a born teacher and an inspiration. He patiently guided me, taught me the most efficient technique and gave me the tools I needed to progress to paddling confidently in open water. Over the last few months I have joined Tim and Paddle Method on numerous weekly excursions, touring the beautiful Southern California coast from Newport Beach to Malibu. I've experienced the joy of being surrounded by a pod of dolphins, families of sea lions and stood awestruck as a gray whale breached a few feet away! Almost by accident, I find myself in the best shape of my life. I have developed a significant improvement in my core strength and general sense of well-being from paddling with Tim on his excursions, and by participating in his super fun technique based paddle work-outs. Super from booking in advance to a fabulous lesson with Tim and a guided tour throughout the Marina Del Rey channels. Equipment was top-notch, and we learned enough to make my husband, daughter and myself feel comfortable and confident even as beginners. Tim's the best -- I first met him when I rented an inflatable off him. Pretty soon we were paddling together, him giving me key pointers and showing me as well how to have a good time. Eventually, I bought a board off him. Thing is, he wanted to show me this little thing of getting through the waves if I wanted to launch from the beach. "Nah, not interested in surfing," I told him. That was three months ago and I've been hooked ever since. What started as a twice a month habit is now a full-blown obsession. I go out maybe three times a week, trying to catch waves, but also just to enjoy the lifestyle, the water, the feeling of floating on water. Can't recommend this enough!!!! read more

I wanted to try paddle boarding while in LA visiting my cousin and found Paddle Method on Yelp. It was conveniently located near my cousin's place, right by the north end of the marina, and it looked like it would be good for beginners. And I was happy to find out that it was. The women who signed us in and set us up with equipment were very friendly and encouraging, and the instructor, Tim, did a terrific job of explaining the "method" of paddleboarding in good detail, but clearly and without overwhelming us. After the "beach training", we went out on the water. I took to it pretty quickly from the start and had a blast. My cousin was a bit nervous in the water though, and we were very impressed by Tim's encouraging him and giving him tips to help him overcome his fear. I look forward to getting deeper into the Marina and out towards the ocean next time I'm in LA, and also the tours that Tim does. Highly recommended. read more

I am new to LA and new to paddle boarding! I have tried several SUP places and been happy with all, however Tim from Paddle Method stood out about the rest! I found him through living social and contacted him to set up a date. He was very good with communication through email while arranging my trip. I choose the Paradise Cove trip in Malibu. It was an easy place to find with street parking on PCH. Tim started with a nice warmup on the beach and gave us a brief but very informative beach lesson. Most places I have been to just give you a few basics to get you started and out on your way, how to get on the board, from your knees to standing, and which way to hold the paddle. Tim took the time to show us how to use proper form while holding the paddle, turning, reversing, etc. He explained wave timing since we were going out into the open ocean and helped us through the wave break. Once out in the ocean he continued to give individual instruction to each paddler. The view was amazing!! Aside from the the perfect shoreline view, we had the opportunity to see a seal, dolphins and even whales! Tim was awesome! I highly recommend Paddle Method!! Try it out!
