I recently did an eco tour at Paddle The Florida Keys with my family. It was great! We were a mix of SUP and kayak users and our guide, Mike, was awesome. Very friendly and helpful with getting us out on the water. We got to see some really cool wildlife including a manatee and some crazy upside down jellyfish. Mike never rushed us through our tour and let us just hang out with the manatee as long as we wanted, which was great! We had a blast! Checking in was easy, and we were set up with a 2-person Kayak for a "on-your-own" kayak ride. Owners and operators were very nice. We were given some tips on how to get to the mangroves and what to prepare for. It was so relaxing floating down those mangrove trails. You felt like you were in a different world! Coming back to the "beach" we started from, we were told we could come back and use the kayaks until the end of the day. We were pretty tired though and took it easy for the rest of the day. We tried the seafood place next door and it was so good! Try the roll sandwiches They are ALL good! We also were lucky to see some manatees off of the marina docks and there was a baby! Disclaimer: I wanted to LOVE this place, but there are legitimate reasons I took two stars. I would still encourage you to judge for yourself! It's a great spot being affordable and flexible, and between Key Largo and Islamorada. Minus first star for mishaps with the kayak rental...we were staying in a gated community and while drop off went smoothly, pick up was a real issue. We waited forever and then there was some confusion if they picked the right kayaks. We were told that we would have to pay for them...we ended up working it out but a big headache on vacation! Minus second star for lack of guiding on the SUP tour. Our guide decided to invite a friend on our tour and spent the majority of the time catching up with her from topics of moving to NC, fostering dogs, to which parties to hit for Fourth of July. I would have appreciated more guidance especially when big fish were splashing around in the dark! That all being said it is a great experience and there are super cute shops in the area where the storefront is. read more

Over New Years, we rented paddleboards and yaks. We played in the water and squeezed through tight spots in the mangroves that opened up to a jellyfish infested lagoon. It was quite an awesome half day! Highly recommend based on friendlieness, great gear and location! read more

We really enjoyed the reasonable prices and friendly, laid-back staff at PTFK! It was my first experience paddle boarding and Scott, the owner, and Chris (I think that was his name...young, African-American guy) made me feel like it was the most natural thing in the world. The mangrove trail was beautiful, and ends in a peaceful, quiet lake! Also, the lagoon at the end of the first turn was a lovely place to lie back on the board and just "chill." Our only caveat: we could have used a little more warning about how the current can pick up under the bridge. We had no problem getting through there in the morning, but when we came back and went upstream again in the afternoon, it was ripping! read more

We rented individual kayaks for a couple of hours for $27 each. The shop has a decent location - it is a 20 min kayak ride from a small island where you can park your kayaks on the shore and walk around the shallow water/island. About 20min in the opposite direction of the shop is a very cool mangrove where it is so peacefully quite that you can't even hear the road/cars. The mangrove is extremely narrow in some places, requiring you to push yourself by grabbing the tree branches, which was very fun. The water is extremely call in these mangroves once you get far in. Although we arrived at the shop near closing, the owners were nice enough to let us stay out AFTER closing. This was a very cool accommodation. When we were done kayaking for the day, we simply parked ourselves on the shore and parked our kayaks next to the others. read more

We staid nearby and walked into the shop to look around. The staff was great and we started talking about things to do in the area. The next day we went back and rented a double kayak for 35$ for the whole day. They gave us some advice of where to go, which side of the channel to stay on, and where the boat routes were. We went back to the man groves first. After about an hour in we came to the first lagoon. A lot of the mangrove was so narrow we couldn't paddle so we pushed from branches above our heads. We didn't see any snakes but lots of spiders. It was beautiful and Erie all at the same time. After that we went to the island. The water in the ocean was 2-4 feet deep, except the boat channels. We paddled up the coast along the man groves then cut back toward the island. We saw a big spotted ray in the shallow water. When we got to the island it was high tide and there was only a small beach. As the tide went down the beach got HUGE. The hurricane had knocked several trees down and the island was tiny but it was really cool to be on an island by yourself that was uninhabited. There was a swing that made it even more unique. The nice lady at the shop gave us some water for the iguanas, we put the water out around noon but didn't see any iguanas. We hung out on the island, walked around it in the water a few times. Found some cool shells and sea creatures, and the sun and water was amazing. The beach had a lot of crushed coral so a beach towel or chair would be nice. Also the shallow water surrounding it had sharp shells and coral so slip flops or water shoes are nice. As it got warmer (about 80 degrees in January) the iguanas started to emerge. We took some pictures before we left. It was one of my favorite experiences in the keys. Very inexpensive, plenty to explore, and amazing people at Paddle. read more

This is my first time to have this water tour with such an amazing experience which is really eco healthy. The tour is approximately two hours. We row into the mangrove forest. We saw manatees and many other sea fishes under the water. The whole tour is very safe. If people cannot swim, they can put on life jackets. Water is about 3-5 feet deep in the mangrove forest. It is a memorable trip! read more
