Happy 2 year anniversary to this charming cafe!! My friend brought me here the other day raving about their smoothies. I hesitated because I'm vegan and generally Brazilian fare doesn't offer much vegan stuff and I didn't want the visit to be a hassle. The owners were super friendly and offered up so many substitutions to create a vegan-friendly smoothie. Honestly, I would have been happy omitting ingredients to save on the trouble but they had vegan subs so they swapped out the whey protein for plant-based, omitted the collagen and swapped the pb for almond butter. Those were way too many accommodations for my comfort... I really don't like being "that" customer but they were so ready to make me the perfect smoothie. They were so kind and helpful!! The pastry case was nearly empty when we arrived around 1pm. If you want to try anything, get there early! There were frozen items for purchase such as ready to bake dough as well as frozen meats. As we were leaving, another co-owner was coming in. She was holding buckets of roses! They wanted to have these ready to give away for Mother's Day weekend! So sweet! This is an extremely cute little hole in the wall cafe with delicious Brazilian pastries! They even create and sell their own brand of hot sauce! There's a regular hot sauce version and a creamy version. I haven't tried the creamy version but the regular Hot sauce Is so tasty flavor and has a nice kick. I stopped by for Brazilian pastries and realized that there is now a name change. Sunstream Coffee is now Padoca Cafe. I ordered the traditional pao de queijo, which is a giant cheesy bread and a coxinha, which is a teardrop croquette filled with shredded chicken and cheese. Both were delicious. The pao de queijo was crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The coxinha was huge and also filled with a ton of chicken and cheese. Super filling. The cafe is small so there only two tables for sitting. It's definitely more for to go. Service was quick. We swung by this morning and got super lucky! A nice parking spot right in front of the door, and food that seriously blew us away. Coming from LA, Porto's is the name of the game, but this Brazilian storefront was next level homemade and delicious. I seriously wish we had a place like this available back home. The cashier was super sweet and patient with us as we perused all the options; we finally settled on the following: 1) Risolis - Beef & Corn 2) Risolis - Ham & Cheese 3) Pão de Queijo (Cheese Bread) 4) Pamonha Assada 5) Coxinha I've been off chicken for a while (pregnancy life), but everything else was stunning. The beef & corn risolis was a larger next level potato ball--you could taste how fresh the ingredients were and the spices used were perfection. The ham & cheese risolis was next level decadent--as someone lactose intolerant, I'd risk it all for this one (multiple times). The cheese bread was exactly what we thought it would be; it had that perfect spring as it puffed back into shape after the first bite. Dog dad loved the coxinha, and the pamonha assada was the perfect way to round off our gluttony in a parking lot. The inside of the store is cozy and cute--2 tables available for those looking to hunker down. We were on the move today, so we ate everything in a parking lot after getting gas. I come here on my walk to work in the morning and their pastries always fills me up! Friendly workers, greets you whenever you come in and are helpful if you're not sure what to get. I've tried their Coxincha, Esfiha de Frango com Palmito and Coconut Bread, all are great! I usually get the Coxincha more often than the others. 03-15-18 I am extremely happy Sunstream is still a staple in the neighborhood. Today I tried their white cherry juice which was blended cherries, water, and ice. So good! I also went in for the chicken and cream cheese filled potato balls which are big, crispy, and hot. Parking can be a bit difficult, but so worth it. I love their small renovated space too. .......... For a long time, the first thing I used to think of when I thought of Brazil, was Blanka. You know, the big crazy green dude from Street Fighter II who would try to kill his opponents by electrocuting them or biting their heads, and would do back flips and roar when he won? He's awesome--after Chun Li, I'd always pick him when I was over at my next-door neighbor's house to play classic Nintendo as a kid. Blanka was from Brazil. But now, after discovering Sunstream Café--which by the way I have dubbed as MY hole in the wall joint (yes, mine, all mine, me loves it)--the first thing I tend to think of when I think Brazil is, YUMMY DEEP FRIED CHEESY THINGS! If you do not love yummy deep fried cheesy things, we can no longer be friends. Sorry. My fave so far is the coxinha (co-sheen-ah), which is round and crispy and doughy and filled with a delicious, soup-like cheese and shredded chicken concoction that is just plain amazing. I crave one just about every day. I've tried the risoli, which has a similar crunchy outside but is filled with cheese and hearts of palm. Not as good as coxinha, but still pretty damn good. I'm not the hugest fan of the pao de queijo, which to me is just cheese-flavored bread. Now, dip it in some deep fried batter, and then we'd be talking ;)... To balance out all that oil, though, Sunstream is also famous for its healthy, ice cold Acai Bowl. Acai to me tastes like a chocolate raspberry. Also delish. And a good way to refresh, on one of the 10 hot days San Francisco gets a year (luckily one of those days was today, so I took a bowl to go on my way to buy groceries at Trader Joe's!). This Brazilian bakery/cafe is a GEM! But if you blink you'll miss it on Geary Blvd...this place is tiny. The acai bowls are the ideal pick-me-up: they are made to order, and topped with bananas and (unashamedly, out-in-the-open-store-bought) granola. I am OBSESSED with their pastries, mainly the chicken and cream cheese coxinhas (Brazilian croquettes). Golden on the outside, and doughy on the inside...they send my tastebuds into euphoria! My favorite place to buy coxinhas in SF, when in Berkeley I go to Brazil Cafe. It's a deep fried dumpling filled with shredded chicken & catupiry cheese - the "pear shape" is meant to resemble a drumstick. In the last 2 years (*pats self on back for the effort it took*) I've tried every pastry they sell, so I've posted a pic for each type (fillings change). Except for the Quibe (sorry, no camera at the time) it's a small fried oval-shaped bulgur wheat dumpling, usually filled with beef. You cannot miss it, it's the darkest looking round dumpling, somewhat dense and very meaty - I didn't like it that much. So after all that effort, what do I recommend? - I just come for the coxinhas. I eat them plain, or if u want add some hot sauce. The hot sauce squeeze bottles on the tables are very, VERY spicy. Much spicier than the average 'gringo type' spicy sauce, so just a drop is enough. You've been warned. This place is small, yet the menu variety is larger than other shops that have twice the space. They even have a few tables with seats, and a tiny restroom in the back behind the counter (it's smaller than an airplane toilet closet). The guys that operate this place are usually friendly and helpful - when they're not hypnotized by the Novelas (soap operas) playing on their small TV. Most people come for the "Salgados" (means savory pastries in Portuguese). Brazilian expats adore the "pao de queijo" (cheese bread), the best selling item. They have good coffee, but the coffee machine's filter must have a hole or it's hastily placed, because every single cup I've ever ordered always has some coffee grounds in the bottom of the cup. In addition to Brazilian coffee and savory pastries, they sell smoothies, "sucos" (fruit juices), an Acai bowl - popular among health fanatics, assorted sodas (Guarana in regular or diet - a popular Brazilian soda), sandwiches, "cachorro quente" (hot dog), and a few "sobremesas" (desserts). They offer Free delivery (minimum $15 order) within a few blocks of the place. ** Update: They've made many improvements to their website compared to the original single page version. The Portuguese menu now includes prices, and English descriptions for those unfamiliar with their menu items. Ever since last summer, I had wanted to go to Sun Stream because people kept harping about the acai bowls--really, that was all I wanted to try at first--but I didn't have the chance to go to Sun Stream until recently. I always passed by the place on the 38 Geary going home, but never found much reason to stop and check it out (mainly because I felt like it'd be a headache to wait for another 38 bus heading towards Ocean Beach...I'm picky like that). It was a clear Saturday afternoon, and after lunch at Kitaro and perusing Cherish on Clement with Mellie P., I decided I would walk from 3rd Avenue to Masonic for my weekly Trader Joe's fix. I figured on the way I could conveniently stop by Sun Stream and finally try out the hyped acai bowl. Sun Stream had little foot traffic by that point in the afternoon (around 2-3pm); probably most people had gotten their fix and moved on outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. I walked in, studied the handwritten menu on the wall, and the lone worker/barista greeted me. He didn't mind that I was taking some time to decide on my order; when I asked for the "acai bowl", he made sure I was ordering the right thing for myself; kept asking, "Not the shake, right? The shake has milk in it..." When we finally saw eye-to-eye on that matter, he promptly went ahead and mixed up my bowl for me. I was anticipating it so much...it seemed like the perfect snack for the temperate afternoon. Oh! But the funny thing that surprised me when the worker handed me my "bowl" was the fact that it was served in a plastic to-go cup. Should have called it Acai cup instead.... But that didn't really matter to me; I paid the guy, left a tip, and walked on towards Trader Joe's. There, on the bench outside, the first bite of the Acai bowl was heavenly. Ice cold, full of flavor with the Acai fruit with the crunchiness of the granola. It was worth the $5+; can't find this in many places in the city. Of course, I could try to make this on my own as well, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to find the right ingredients here. Mmm. I hesitated to post a review right after that experience though; I wanted to go back and try something else before I decided on my verdict for Sun Stream. I was already lovin' it (oh no, McD cameo), but after reading other reviews on here, I decided I would have to go back and try at least the coxinha (thanks to Kate V. for the pronunciation guide; really helped me). So I went today for the coxinha; same worker, same great service. The coxinha was warm and fresh; I tasted more of the chicken than the cheese, but the cheese was definitely there. I'm not such a fan of fried food these days, but I may have to make an exception for coxinha and the other pastries here.... As mentioned before, the service has been great so far; of course, I also keep going at off-peak hours, so that helps the quality of service. The prices--well, a little "pricey" in some ways, but it makes sense since there aren't so many Brazilian cafes in the City/Bay Area. Gotta charge a premium for something unique, right? The one thing that I wish were a lot better is the environment/atmosphere: there's barely any room to sit and eat the food, which is something I would like to do there. The few seats/window bar table are fine, but I need a little more space for myself sometimes (suppose I am slightly claustrophobic). Also, the place closes early (and on Sundays), so that makes it inconvenient for someone who works the normal weekday hours (like me). Other than that, though, Sun Stream is a great place to get tasty Brazilian treats. Will definitely make more effort to go out of my way and stop by more often. read more

It had a somewhat overwhelming banana flavor, not really to my tastes - but I can see how it can make a good breakfast. I've placed an order at that place and after 40 min I got a call from them lettinge know that they didn't have the food I've ordered. The Uber ests driver went to pick the order and they didn't even have the decency to call Uber and let them know.
