The restaurant setup is more self-service than we expected. You have to order at the counter, grab your own utensils and drinks, and the only menu is posted on the wall, which is hard to read. It would really help if they had printed menus and clearer descriptions of what comes with each plate. Also, they only accept cash or Venmo, a sign outside letting customers know ahead of time would be helpful. The food itself was okay but pretty bland. The omelets and potatoes lacked seasoning, and the toast was just plain buttered bread. Overall, it felt basic for the price. This is a neighborhood place manned by only 1 person. My daughter and I were staying near Twin Peaks for a couple of nights so we wanted to explore the neighborhood's breakfast joints. The kind of place you just don't see anymore. A true one man show. Came on a Thursday morning for a late breakfast - you order up front with the only guy there and then you find a seat. Cash only or venmo. When it gets busy, the order can take a bit of time, but with this, patience is a virtue and really, it is just one guy and he's super nice. The spot is a small, cozy place for a nice small brunch with a few friends. FOOD: All crepes that I've tried here are pretty dang good. Each one with a side of a simple garden salad that helps lighten up your plate and a nice serving of potatoes that are your standard breakfast potatoes but done well. Crepe itself is light and crispy, each filled with a very solid amount of well thought out combination of fillings that are each cooked to perfection. Most recently I had the puttanesca, which was served with a side of sour cream. This combination of flavors with the cheese, mushrooms, and sour cream was an excellent way to start my day. I've also had the curry crepe as well which is also an interesting combination but overall delicious as well. A bit more depth of flavor with the curry. It's seems the parks in San Francisco are good places to eat. Although my neighborhood has some dog parks where the dogs eat there is a park that also attracts us humans and it's also a neighborhood park. In the Glen Park neighborhood in San Francisco you will find a spot where the neighbors congregate to grab espressos along with their delicious crepes at Higher Grounds Coffee House. I acknowledge that the internet and social media still exist but I kept this spot under wraps like a crepe for years. There is limited seating on the weekends and it's the neighborhood original IYKYK spot in San Francisco which closes by 3pm. I usually have their vegetarian pesto crepe which had mushrooms , pesto feta and jack cheese and it's so tasty. From the walls to the roof this spot is filled with lots of charm. First the roof inside is covered with real coffee bags. The walls have interesting art of local San Francisco businesses . The good vibes here is a reflection of the neighborhood. It's a hidden gem on Chenery and the cross street of Diamond. Whether you are around the diamond of Oracle Park or at the Glen Park neighborhood on Diamond street there are good drinks and food gems at the parks of San Francisco. Not sure from where the critics on poor menu items description comes from because the menu is on GIANT BLACKBOARD above the counter. The food is made to order by one chef/frontdesk/server. This place feels homy and the food is delicious. Most dishes can come as an omelette or a crepe. Both delicious and served with a salad and potatoes. The chicken delight crepe has never failed me. I don't usually like savory crepes, but this one is well-spiced with tender chicken and a great cheese pull. It tastes pretty healthy too with the spinach, onions, and delicious mushrooms. All savory crepes come with potatoes and salad, which is quite generous in my opinion. My husband always gets the banana nutella crepe when he wants a treat. Also 5 stars, always well done. The crepe is the right balance of soft and flaky, and they give generous portions of banana and nutella. In addition, the freshly squeezed OJ is amazing, pulpy, sweet. Served in a tall mug. The small interior gets pretty packed on weekends, especially since they don't have their outdoor parklet anymore. Sometimes they get pretty backed up, and the owner gets a little short. Wow what a cool gem of a find in Glenn Park. Conveniently closes to Bart and has an amazing selection of breakfast dishes to choose from. It's the perfect neighborhood coffee stop too. Not many seats inside but has 3 tables in the street that are perfect for sunny days. The allá toscana was phenomenal and was a total change up to the ordinary breakfast egg plate you find at most places. I ordered it with eggs and it included Kalamata olives, avo, mozzarella , tomatoes, olive oil, sour cream and just really surprised me how well it came together. The eggs were cooked perfectly. It's served pretty much like an omelette. It comes with potatoes and a salad along with pre buttered toast which I appreciated the nice attention to detail. After many years of living nearby I thought it was finally time to stop by and try Higher Grounds. I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and found parking immediately a couple of doors down from the restaurant. Every table was taken as I walked in. I ordered the Chicken Delight, to go. Each crepe comes with a side of potatoes and a salad. Two people had each placed their orders before me so I knew it was going to take some time, especially as there's only one person running the spot. After approximately 15 to 20 minutes my order was packed up and ready for me to pick up. I was able to sit down to eat it 10 minutes later and the food was hot and fresh. The crepe was filled with chicken and vegetables. The potatoes were well seasoned and the salad had a nice dressing. Overall, I was pleased with the qualify of the dish and the portion size. I was looking for somewhere to grab breakfast and Higher Grounds was really close to the Airbnb I was staying at & I'm glad I found out about this Coffee House! It's a small & charming neighborhood business and I'm glad that it has survived during COVID. There was only one worker during the morning time when I went. I'm assuming that he was the owner. He was really working hard to take orders and make the food. The shop was takeout only. No indoor or outdoor seating. My friends and I got the Shrimp Crepe, Croissant French Toast & Chicken Delight Crepe! These savory crepes were so delicious! They were packed with ingredients and taste! I also enjoyed the side of potatoes & salad that it came with. The Croissant French Toast was on point with the flavor and sweetness. I will definitely be coming back here the next time I visit SF! I've been coming to this local spot for years. There's a lot that I like about it, to include the homey atmosphere (a little bit grimy), greasy spoon feel, interesting menu, and the fact that it's a local business. What I don't like is that it's a one-person operation, and subject to overwhelm. The operator-owner, a quirky elderly man, is a one-man show who does it all: takes your order, makes your food, gives you sh*t, and moves things along. He doesn't take card, only Venmo, or cash. No problem, but not super viable in today's connected world, and in a tech-heavy city like SF. The food quality is OK, not great, but it'll fill you up... sort of, given the portions are quite small. Customer service is brusque and oddly "old world," as the owner is obviously overwhelmed and trying to spin multiple plates at once. He got my order wrong, but that's forgivable as we're all human, but mediocre customer service is risky. He whined about the complexity of my order, and then wouldn't explain which was which in my order ... "You'll just have to figure it out; it's easy." Not sure if he was being funny or a prick, but it seemed a bit out of place. But at least he still said thank you. So why keep coming back? It's the coffee. It's his special blend, and his secret. I once asked about it, and he quipped that he blended it himself, and I find it always to be tasty and delicious. But beware, it's his secret, and he guards it like Smeagol/Gollum (LOTR)... funny, because I just asked him where the beans were from (Africa? South America? SE Asia?). It's his precious, so I just shut up and drink the coffee. In the end, this place gets 2.5 stars, but I'll round up. -1 for service because it's not there. -1 for higher prices, smaller portions, and inconsistent execution. He gets 2.5 stars for being a local spot having survived, and for the audacity to serve a picky community, and feeding locals. Kudos for bravery. And, given that he's a one-man show, it's unclear how he can sustain and maintain. But I'll keep coming back here, if only for the great coffee and that I don't hang around. read more

Higher Grounds Coffeehouse has the best Crepes known to mankind. I guess you'd call this a hole in the wall, but it's too quaint to meet that definition. The owner and chef, Manhal (seen in the picture) cuts the ingredients fresh in front of you and prepares your crepes to order. They are all delicious and the flavors are amazing. I particularly love the Chicken Delight Crepe There are tables out on the sidewalk if you are concerned with Covid-19.
