We tried a couple of different things: Strogonoff de Frango/ Chicken Stroganoff, Cheese Bread (Pão de Queijo), and the Chicken Croquette with Cream Cheese. My favorite was the cheese bread! The chewy texture and cheese are so lovely! The service was fast and they were very attentive. I walked in and felt very comfortable immediately. Fantastic attentive and helpful service! It was our first time and we didn't feel rushed to make a decision and the woman took the time to explain the various food items to us and talk to us about some products we had questions about. The coffee was delicious and they have lots of options of beans to choose from. We opted to buy their Sumatran beans as well (roasted in Boulder). There is a cute little mini market that was a little sparse, but had some frozen ready-to-cook options, beans, and a refrigerated section. I'd love to come back and see what else they carry. We bought some butter biscuits which were a great snack to pair with coffee. There were tons of options in the case to choose from (we also got some cheese balls which were so fluffy!) and she recommended coming back to try their sandwiches and smoothies. I loved the ambiance. It was very simple decor with a Brazilian theme. There were some tables to hang out and chat or work (including some outdoor options) and the large front glass windows bring in a lot of light. They offer free wifi and have a parking lot. read more

WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. I came here with two people and we each got a coffee and 2-3 bakery items. Total $70. I look at the receipt and they're charging everyone an "inflation fee". Seriously?? Pao de quiejo is normally $1.25 each or less and they're charging $4 for each one. Insane. read more

By far the best Brazilian bakes i've had in this country. 5 stars for the taste, care and authenticity. Unfortunately, everything is CRAZY expensive. More expensive than Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City places. I had to stop coming here because 3 or 4 small food items + a drink is around $40, and that's the reason i am giving 3 stars. Everything is 30% more expensive than all the other Brazilian places i've been before. Pao de Queijo shouldn't be more than $2.50. Coxinha Shouldn't be more than $5. This is a dream come true-- fresh pão de queijo [among other goodies at a Brazilian bakery]. Cute and inviting interior with a grocery area selling coffee, tapioca starch and packs of their own frozen prepared foods. The display case keeps things warmed, though I personally would have liked if the pão de queijo was warmer. Nevertheless it was delicious with the perfect chewiness. I also tried the cheese and corn croquette which qas perfect-- thin crisp exterior, soft flavorful mashed potatoes with a cheesy filling and kernels of sweet corn. Wonderful neighborhood spot that's great for kids! The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. They have little stools and a box of books, our daughter loves coming here and knows exactly what to do. We get pastries and drinks, and she sits down to read. Way too expensive for breakfast. I think I picked 3 small items out of the display case and a coffee for $17. It was not enough food for breakfast or lunch. A single Pao de Queijo is $4!!!! You can make a dozen of these at home in less than 20 minutes for probably 50 cents of ingredients. If the prices changed I would be willing to try it again but I'm going to be harsh here, you're ripping people off for bread. read more

Yes, from its cozy nook at Jersey/9th, Padoca Gourmet offers a bevy of festive flavors to quell any possible "saudades" you might have for Brazilian food, or, indeed, to introduce you to the cuisine of South America's largest, most populous nation. Now, before I get too far ahead of myself, I want to clarify something which may be a little confusing when talking specifically about Brazilian baked goods. Although countries that speak Spanish often use the term "empanada" to describe those yummy stuffed handheld pies found all over Denver, in Brazil, where Portuguese is spoken, they are called Pastéis (or Pastel in the singular form - but why would you only eat one?). And as you may have guessed from my little digression, Padoca has a number of these tasty tidbits to tempt you - two I am especially fond of mix melty cheese with either Milho (perky corn kernels) or Presunto (savory dry-cured ham). But interestingly, Brazil does indeed have a food called Empadão or (in its smaller form) Empadinha, which is a bit like a flaky pot pie. And - que surpresa! - you can usually find at least one or two of these here at any given time also, including a sumptuous variant made with Palmitos (palm-tree hearts) available on a recent visit. While I admit that the linguistic lesson above was very "gostoso", I don't want to get too distracted from my primary goal - filling you in on as many of Padoca's pleasures as I can. So on a healthy note, how about a cool, creamy Açaí bowl? Those little purply-blue berries are a great source of antioxidants, after all. Or, treat yourself to a few cheesy cassava buns (Pão de Queijo) or bouncy cutlets of chicken and Catupiry cheese (Coxinha). (You can in fact also find both of these latter items in bulk in the cooler section of the bakery's market, where you may additionally see coffee from the southeastern state of Minas Gerais, or boxed yerba mate from Brazil's neighbor, Bolivia, or....). Don't forget a tangy, frothy Limonada Suiça (limeade whipped with condensed milk) to go with your baked bounty of course. But we must save just a bit of room for dessert, so let me briefly mention Padoca's rich truffles - available in a variety of flavors, including Amendoim (peanut) and white chocolate. read more
