Avoid at all costs, I think their awards and ratings are fictitious. We had to grab someone's attention, he then proceeded to ask us if we came to eat, like what else? The bar wasn't open (not that we drink). It took 30 minutes for our order to be taken. No one poured us water, I walked over to the water fountain and grabbed a water vase for our table. Two minutes later, a server comes and plops a vase rudely on our table instead of being like "oh, we are so sorry we didn't give you water." Then, the person who we first spoke to goes to sit down with his girlfriend and has an entire meal on the clock. We were eyeing him and saw that with his supposedly girlfriend, his personality certainly changed 180 degrees. Really fooled us. A lot of ratings that make me question the validity of their existence. I have experienced some of the pizza in the world, This was easily at the bottom of the list for me. It looks good and after one bite is was shocking to experience the gooey undone crust! The thin base of the crust was substantially undercooked the edges were better but it made for a terrible piece of pizza. One of us only ate the edges and the toppings. On top of it, the service was poor too. I will never return here. read more

We saw the pizza was recommended as Michelin Guide and figured why not give it a try, both pizzas were underwhelming. We tried the Margherita and Forest pizzas, neither looked anything like the website. The Margherita pizza was tomato sauce and cheese and soaked through the undercooked crust leaving it a soggy mess. To make things worse there was only one tiny leaf of basil. The forest pizza was somehow even worse, they just placed a large quantity of raw cabbage on top after the pie was cooked. There's better pizza options for a fraction of the price within a 5 minute walk. The drinks also left a lot to be desired, lemon twist in a martini? The waiter was pleasant and the overall atmosphere was nice but the pizza left a lot to be desired. read more

I went to the Pyg Restaurant on a Friday night which is located in PowersCourt centre, really like the venue and décor. Not far from centre city so location is great. Price - I have to say its probably the best priced restaurant I have been to in town by quite a bit. Starters - Nachos and prawns, both yum, prawns on the small side though. Nachos particularly guacamole and salsa was yum. Mains \ Specials - I usually don't go for specials but they have a fair amount of daily specials and went for the Supreme of Chicken which fairly tasty. Desserts - Cheesecakes and brownies, I have a sweet tooth and loved the chocolate oblivion (brownie like dessert) Staff - were a bit slow and courses didn't arrive together the only complaint I can have. Overall - very well priced, tasty food and the location is good. Could improve on food arriving at same time. Vast menu too. Would highly recommend though. read more

Okay...this place is so cool. It's in the middle of Powerscourt Townhouse (shopping centre) and has a really pretty beautiful setting with the awesome paper animal head lamps and some low hanging lights and decorations. The cocktails were great. I'm so sad I didn't catch the name of whatever I was drinking but it was incredibly good, and would have had me returning to the bar over and over and over. The food was lovely. Tapas mainly. Primarily pork based, which was a bit of an issue for my friend who is Muslim but Pyg made up for it with insanely good lamb kebabs (seriously, I'm insane for them now). They had a great chorizo stew type dish, and absolutely wonderful cheese and meat trays for appetizers...or a whole meal if you'd like. The staff were friendly, and helpful when needed as well which really just made this place all you could hope for in a restaurant! read more

When I went to get some lunch here on a Saturday the long queue really said it all: The food here is tasty. I've eaten here once before, many moons ago, but a recent yelp event reactivated my pleasant memories and made me want to return for more. Pyg is situated right in the heart of the Powerscourt Shopping centre. The area the restaurant occupies was actually the garden of Powerscourt house, so there is plenty to look, think and talk about if you do find yourself queueing. Once you get your seat you can totally forget your in a shopping centre and just enjoy a fine dining experience. Tapas are the weapon of choice here and, I'm happy to say, any dish I've tried has blown me away. I especially recommend the salmon. In all honesty, I freaking love this place. Firstly - the situation of it - right in the centre of Powerscourt House. Really a truly beautiful space - ostrich feathered chandeliers overhead, quarter of a century old walls surrounding you. The restaurant itself is always dolled up to a really great standard. Fresh flowers on the tables at all times - they had little purple clovers last week, but they change with the seasons. Now for the food. It is truly delicious. I have been lucky enough to have a good sample across the board, and there are a few stand outs. Baked camembert - with garlic and honey and cranberry all up in it. Yum. Gambas pil pil - prawns in olive oil with garlic and chili - amazing. And their fave, chorizo stew, which comes with little potatoes and sour cream. By the way - these are all tapas, so go mad, order as many as you want and try get through em! They have lots of food specials as well - check their board for the day's ones. My next bookmark is the waffles - it is now possible my friends, to get those Belgian waffles with all the cream and choc and general terribleness piled high up on top. I'm pretty sure they do savoury ones too, but sure why would ye do a thing like that! Also - keep an eye out for value specials. They do cocktail Friday - 15% off cocktails, and a check in offer if you're using the Yelp app. All in all, if I was looking for somewhere nice to settle in, have a glass of wine, and take in the surroundings, whilst eating my little fayash off, this would be the place. read more

I don't normally write review's after just one visit but I don't think I will be going back. Myself and my partner went here for dinner, we had been to the daytime lunch restaurant and had a great meal so we were expecting a lot. However we didn't get it. The starter was ok but it was just anti-pasta no cooking involved really. I had a surf and Turf special and it was pretty poor, a fatty steak which wasn't great and some prawns which were almost inedible they had been cooked so long. The dish come with sweet potato which was ok. But it was a just a bit dull. The staff were great to be honest, but for the prices involved the food was not up to scratch something that doesn't happen in Dublin that often. If you spend the money you usually get a good meal. Overall disappointed, especially after the great lunch we had had at the daytime restaurant before. Which was really really good. Maybe we just arrived on a bad day for the restaurant who knows. If the food had been average I would have probably given 4 stars rather than 2 as the location and staff are great. But the primary concern for me at a restaurant is the quality of the food i'm afraid. read more

Armed with a 20% discount voucher, we returned to The Pyg Restaurant to try out the dinner menu properly. We had been to a stellar yelp event a few months before (where we got the voucher) AND we had a fantastic lunch here a couple of weeks ago where during the day the place is know as the Pygmalion Cafe. The setting was very pleasing, in the middle of Powerscourt Townhouse, and as the clocks had not long changed to summer time, it was very bright too. The staff were friendly and attentive (one waiter could win a Smiling for Ireland competition!). Going for the wine special, we opted for the Pinot Gris, Lucien Albrecht 2006. It was a stunning pick that we were delighted with. So much so I took a picture of the label, which is why I can tell you what it is in the review. But this is where the good times end. We shared the starter of antipasti for two and this was fine. Everything put on the plate tasted fine. For a main course I went for the risotto with goats cheese, sweet potato and spinach. It looked awful on the plate, not very appealing at all. But that didn't put me off and when I started to eat I initially thought it tasted fine. But about a third of the way through I started to struggle. The strong flavours of both the sweet potato and the goats cheese where increasing hard to cope with. After trying as hard as I could I had to leave half of it on the plate. My partner was not impressed with what he order too, Surf N turf, stating that the prawns were overcooked and the steak average. The dish was over priced for what you got. I'm sure he will write his own review about that dish. If we hadn't had the 20% off voucher I think I would have left with a very bad taste in my mouth. The discount took the edge off a dining experience best forgotten. read more

Location: convenient Service: fast, friendly Food: good, fresh, tasty bistro food It's bustling and always busy at peak times, caters well for kids, has lots of room for the paraphernalia that goes with the smaller of that species, does good coffee, is good for people watching and deposits you back out in the centre of town. The Powerscourt centre at the heart of which it sits is also possibly the only shopping centre in Dublin that can claim genuine elegance and style, because of its lofty origins as the townhouse of the Powerscourt family. So there was really only so much damage the powers that be could do in converting it to a commercial centre. Thankfully. It genuinely does befit the pianist who can regularly be found tinkling away on the ground floor, and how much nicer is that than blaring music that clogs your brain and induces aching frustration? Much! It's a great meeting place, and perfect for resting weary legs and relaxing for a while. read more

Went today to get my favourite Tuna Nicoise salad only to find out that it was only now available as a special from time to time. Luckily for me it was on the menu today. But there was a catch, price went up for every dish raising tuna salad from 13€ to 15€. At the end the tuna salad was pretty bad, they forgot to put olives and the dressing was bland. I don't think I will be coming back there anymore as for the same price I can get much better food around Dublin. True pity, I really loved the spacious atmosphere of PYG and its lovely staff. read more

I ate here at a Yelp event a few weeks and am only now getting around to reporting back. Mea culpa. First off, I had no idea that Pyg was here and was operating in this sensational location. Because I'm old, I remember years ago when this was Mary Rose's restaurant (don't bother looking it up kids, before your time!). And so in my head, I know of associate it with that time and place, and coming in for soup when out shopping. How things have changed :-) It's smack bang in the middle of the Powerscourt Townhouse, which is I worked in "the Biz", I;d probably say is "a great room". It is a great room - high ceilings doesn't quite do it justice. You get a lovely sense of space and air in there - like being outdoors while being indoors. Anyway - The Pyg is now in situ, has modernised the space somewhat, and made it more sociable and hang-outable, and the food is top notch. They're doing a selection of hot and cold plates, mostly tapas-style offerings, ranging from the classics to the more inventive and unusual. Classics that stood out for me were the gambas - chilli, buttery, yummy, more-y! Their lamb skewers were absolutely cracking - worth returning for alone! And one of the stand out items was a salmon dish - cooked en croute (kind of) with a sauce - very very delicious, and a huge hit with the ladies as I recall! :-) Anyway - I think their main issue is awareness - people don't know the Pyg is there, and forget about the Powerscourt as a venue to dine / drink in. I think that as the word spreads, that's likely to change. I for one will be back, in force :-) read more

The decor has definitely improved since I was there the last time- far less grubby, much more clean/modern. There's always a good atmosphere in this venue. I was looking for somewhere to get a quick lunch during my work break and was recommended pyg by a friend. She was raving about it so i really wanted to like it. I arrived at 4:30 and lunch finishes at 5. It wasnt too busy and i took a seat down by the second bar, inside the restaurant itself rather than on the floor of the shopping centre.I sat for twenty minutes and no one came to serve me, so i asked a girl on her break if i was supposed to go to the bar to order. She pointed out a waitress whom i asked if i could order. She said she would have to ask the manager as the kitchen would close at five, even though that was ten minutes away. It was another five before she came back and said she had told another person to get my order but they hadnt. I ordered a small soup but a large arrived. The soup was delicious and chunky but only came with one piece of bread. honestly i wanted to go elsewhere at this point so i didnt really enjoy. When i was finished the waitress said she needed to charge me right away which was fine by me but you know, maybe not for everyone. She seemed nice and friendly though. I dont like to write bad reviews as i know its often just a once off mix up, being in the service industry myself, but i really wasn't impressed overall. I wouldn't recommend to a friend anyway. If I go back to try again, ill definitely sit more in the way of the waiters and maybe my experience would be better. read more

I picked pyg's as a meet up point for a date ; I had never been before but people praised it. I was quite pleased with myself ...at first. Really cool music and a good crowd. BUT...The bar staff seemed more concerned with themselves then serving people. We waited ages at the bar. Noone was around. Bar staff kept popping in and out and never acknowledged us. I was just there for a few drinks so I can't imagine what it's like to get some grub. A real let down. I won't be back. :( read more

This is situated on the ground floor in Powerscourt town centre. Mainly a coffee shop by day, at night it becomes Pyg restaurant. We've been there a few times now. It's very pretty with the huge high ceiling and the dangling lights, and the staff are very pleasant. The menu has a few daily specials, and a decent selection of wine. The food has been generously and attractively served, and absolutely delicious. Very good value for the price, especially as we got mates' rates on the wine... Only annoying things are that some of the tables are coffee tables with couches, which is grand for coffee but a bit awkward for food (it might be better to book than just walk in- they seem to be the last tables left), and the loo is in the bar downstairs, which is a bar I really don't like due to all the screaming and mazes. But overall, this is a fantastic spot for dinner, and I'm looking forward to trying out all the things on the menu! read more
