Pagan Wine Bar is situated in the Central West End, not far from Euclid and Lindell. Parking is easier the later it is at night. I ventured to this bar for the first time three years ago and am now a more frequent customer with my beau. On weekends, Phil is the expeditor while the sole bartender, Ed, creates magical drinks from behind the bar. Seating is very limited with no reservations, so bear that in mind. Also, the last call ends promptly at 1:00 AM, and 1:30 AM is the absolute cutoff for finishing up your experience there. An absolute gem of a place. I was recently introduced to Pagan within the last year and am kicking myself for not making it here sooner. I think the thing I love the most about Pagan is that it is super low key, yet elevated. It's one door in a building off of Euclid and the sign is a bit hard to spot. When you walk in, it's a dark/ cozy vibe with low lighting and lots of trinkets around. There is bar seating, tables, and comfy seats. It's a pretty small spot, so I recommend coming early. They have servers, so sit down and relax and enjoy yourself :) I've been several times, but this time in particular I ordered their martini. Yes, I know Big Sleep Books took on the big sleep years ago, but I celebrate how worthy its successor is to share that space now that I've finally been there. What a gem of a bar! We visited a local Halloween pop up bar and stopped here afterwards. We were surprised that they mainly served martinis given the. And. The vibe is dark and Halloweeny and very cool! The owner was the one and only bartender and he had a very packed house! Some bars are better for socializing with strangers or watching sports, but this bar is perfect if you want to relax with friends and have a great conversation. The bar is the best place to sit at IMO, as the chairs are actually comfortable bar seats, the lighting is perfect, and it's fun to watch the owner create his cocktails. The drinks are fantastic. My favorite cocktail is one that I tried this past weekend, which was the special of the day. It's called The Last Word and was a cocktail from the early 1900s. It was everything I love in a cocktail, in a way I didn't know existed! If you want to be in a bar with relaxed people who want to enjoy a laid-back evening, this is the place to be! Just note that the owner opens the doors at different times each night, so be in the vicinity and keep your eyes open if you want a seat! The cocktails here are literally some of the best that I've had in the US, and I travel a lot for work. Add on that the customer service from Phil and Eliott who are seriously amazing at making phenomenal cocktails.
