If Sasha's on Demun were a person, it would be Donna Meagle from Parks and Rec. Versatile, knows how to treat yo' self, equally at home in yoga pants, ready for a backwoods adventure or dressed to the nines, and doesn't blink at any version of you that walks through the door. That's the vibe. We started on the front patio on a Friday night and quickly realized we'd made a mistake. The doors to the interior were open and the music -- a rock-forward playlist that night -- was loud enough that we considered bailing. Our server, was unbothered when we asked to move up to the rooftop. Where we met with a new bartender and server, London, who rolled with it, got us resettled, and from that point on the night was great. London was clearly handling the bar and most of the rooftop tables, but she was attentive throughout, and made eye contact, which seems a near miracle from many 20-something these days. Bumping the score up just for the flexibility on the table move alone. The food: crab cakes were genuinely good, not life-changing, but well above the weak-crab-cake bar that exists in most of the world, served simply with capers and a small salad. I went off-script and ordered the wagyu burger medium rare with fontina (London mentioned cheddar is the more common pick, but the Fontina offerd a great alternative). The burger was deeply flavorful and cooked exactly right, but here's my one real note for the kitchen: toast the brioche bun. Wagyu medium-rare puts out a lot of juice, and an untoasted bun loses its structural integrity about three bites in. A quick toast would let the bun keep some additional integrate and keep up with the perfectly cooked beef. The pom buff were great, the best elevated patato tots you may come by. Beyond what we ordered, the Greek salad is a longtime go-to -- chopped, with grape leaves and pita, available in a small or large, and easily dressed up into a light meal with or without adding some protein or can be share as a self-dress bruschetta appetizer for the group if you ask for extra bread. The cheese boards are also a reliable pick. The wine list is extensive (it's a wine bar, after all), but they don't sniff at cocktails -- I had a solid fine old fashioned, and my wife shared had a Malbec that paired well with everything. Lots of gluten-free options across the menu, too. What Sasha's gets right is that it has refused to become precious. "Wine bar" reads as pretentious to some people, but this place runs as a neighborhood spot. You'll see college kids dressed way down, couples on dates dressed way up, Hawaiian shirts, oversized sweaters, the full range. It's the kind of place where you can split a bottle with your girlfriends, meet a date for drinks and a quick bite without committing to a full dinner, or roll in for brunch on the weekend. Different times of day, different vibes -- always approachable. 4.7 stars. Loses a few tenths for the front-patio music situation and the weak burger bun, but more than makes up for it on flexibility, food, and overall hang factor. read more

Used to love this place, but today really changed my impression. We stopped in for a quick drink on a beautiful Saturday. There were a few open tables, but we were asked to wait by the door while they "got situated." Meanwhile, a walk-in who arrived after us was seated at a table we had been waiting for. When we were finally seated, we were placed in direct sun. I asked if we could move to a shaded table in the corner and was told it was only for parties of three. After explaining we'd just be there briefly for a drink, we were allowed to sit there, but the interaction felt dismissive. From that point on, the experience felt rushed. We were pushed to order quickly, our menus were taken right away, and the check came almost immediately. It made what should have been a relaxed stop feel uncomfortable and transactional. I understand how busy restaurants can get, especially on nice days, but a little more consideration and courtesy would have gone a long way. read more

Stopped in for some snacks and wine, as one does, and had a great experience. I've been to the Shaw location before, so I was already familiar with the menu and wine selection, and this spot definitely lives up to it. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd hope for, relaxed, comfortable, and perfect for unwinding. Service was spot on as well. The wines on the main menu are very solid, but the real highlight was the proprietor's list. It's packed with some incredible Spanish and French bottles you don't come across very often, definitely worth exploring. We started with a French Pinot Noir paired with the crab cakes and a cheese board, which were both great. But honestly, once we tried a Garnacha from Spain, we got completely sidetracked, in the best way. It was that good. At that point, food kind of became an afterthought. This is my favorite location of Sasha's - it has an awesome patio, first and second floor/rooftop seating that is just, a total vibe. When it's nice outside there is a small wait if you don't have reservations but not too bad. The service is always excellent. The food is very close in comparison to the Sasha's on Shaw; of course our favorite sweet wine to accompany. This location is relatively central in Clayton Delmar area but on a tight street, street parking might be hard to find. Came for the second time with some friends. I get why it's a popular spot! The wine selection is huge and the vibe is always nice. Great for date night or girls night to catch up. I always get the nonalcoholic rose and it's so good. We sat outside this time with no wait which was great, but it was super hot. Still a nice atmosphere though! We started with the cheeseboard which was more on the basic side than I expected, but we still ate the whole thing. Also got a pizza, the brie sandwich, and another sandwich between all of us and everything tasted great and exactly how it was described in the menu. The service this time wasn't the best. Our waiter brought the wrong food to our table and I ended up having to hand it to the table next to us myself after asking if it was theirs. He barely checked in on us and would only take a couple plates away even when the table was full of empty dishes. Not a huge deal but just felt kind of not taken care of. The other staff were so nice though I think they were managers and they were way more attentive. Cheesecake was pretty neautral and I wouldn't get it again. Nothing was wrong, but nothing was extra about it. Maybe a little too soft. But the potato croquette bites that come as a side make me obsessed. So good!! I've been frequenting Sasha's for nearly 15 years and it has served as a spot for gathering, a swanky date spot, a lovely spot to read and overlook the seminary, or a spot to party. Don't sleep on this food, I cannot stress this to the city enough. For example we had a gluten free friend with us and the GF pizza was arguably better than the normal. Dips, amazing. Oh yah, the wine list is incredible. Get up to that roof top stat on a nice day, especially at the golden hour and sunset. The service is always solid, as one would expect. I had a glass of sparkling rose (can't remember the exact name) and we shared a Charcuterie Plate and the Grilled Veggie flatbread pizza, which was filling for dinner but not overly stuffed. The location in Demun is super cute although street parking can be a bit tricky, especially when it's busy. Great place. Stopped in last night and all of the windows and doors were open and the rooftop was open too. This place has so much charm, great for a date night. We had a round of French 75s (feels like a sin- this is a wine bar) but they were wonderful. They were super busy at about 10pm on a Friday. The music was super loud downstairs so we asked to be moved to the rooftop and they happily obliged! The entire staff here is super nice. We were not able to get a second drink in the hour we were here just because they were so busy and the service was slow, but we did enjoy our time. Maddie is an absolute delight! We sat at the bar on a Saturday night. It was busy, but not rushed or crowded. It was too cold and rainy to sit outside, but the inside was super cozy! Patio Season... As beloved as Sasha's on De Mun is, I still think it's kind of lowkey and slept on - which I love, lol. If Clayton doesn't do anything else, it knows how to do a patio setting. The bartenders were pleasant and served us immediately. The views of the park across the street were so dreamy. A perfect backdrop to day drinking or a nightcap. The Paper Plane is like if an old fashion and an Aperol spritz had a baby. The ambiance and service at Sasha's is always very nice. The food, on the other hand, continues to deeply disappoint. Tonight I opted for the brisket sandwich which was massively disappointing. While served with a small pot of au jus there was just no rehydrating this dried out meat to achieve a palatable experience. Serving dry meat on a large chunk of dry bread is certainly a choice. Again, the au jus was there to help, but it was a losing battle. In addition to being dry, it was also unseasoned and fell flat in the flavor department. If you want to meet a friend for a (slightly overpriced) drink somewhere with nice atmosphere Sasha's is a hit, just make sure you have other plans for dinner. read more

First review of the new year! And my first time checking out Sasha's. When I was in Italy, we checked out some lovely wine bars, so probably I have an unfair point of comparison, but this was ok. I think they had a large selection, and in each section of the drink menu, there seemed to be at least one wine that could be bought by the glass. My friend and I tried a glass of orange wine, and we were prompted to buy a bottle, which, while I understand that's the business model and probably the server's job, I didn't love. On the plus side, our server was good about answering our questions and recommended a tasty non-alcoholic drink to my friend who wasn't partaking. The food was tasty, if kinda pricy. This would be a nice place for special occasions, but I probably won't be a regular. read more
