Wonderful BYOB social painting experience with Lisa, who instructed us to paint a cool Starry-Night inspired landscape of Downtown LA. The venue was awesome, a tiny non descript studio on the second floor of a mixed use building along La Brea. When you walk in the walls are painted with the names of previous guests. I loved the small class size -- only 24 people, and probably only 2 empty seats -- which made for a more casual, relaxed environment where it was more natural to talk to your neighbors. I've been to paint nights where there is double the size and it feels like you're in a class and it's hard to see the instructor's painting. Not so here, as the intimate size was great and we could easily follow our instructor's steps and see her work (both in progress and the finished one for reference). It also is fun to see everyone's paintings around you -- surprising how each one is very uniquely different! -- without having to get up and roam the room. The best part of Paint and Sip was that it was bring your own bottle of wine (plastic cups and opener provided), which meant you could truly personalize your experience with your favorite beverage and drink at your leisure without racking up a big booze tab. Many people also brought snacks, cheese, fruits to eat with their wines. Very cozy and welcoming environment! I came here with my GF for a date night. We purchased tickets online for the Starry Night by Van Gogh. Since it is a really popular painting, the event did sell out. Thursday nights its 2 for 1 so it is a bargain! The event started at 730pm and my GF and I were running a little late due to traffic. We got there at around 745pm and luckily they were still waiting for some people to arrive. Brandon - the instructor - was really friendly and kind upon arrival. Brandon is a great instructor and very patient. He guides you step by step on how to make your painting look good. If you are a beginner, don't be afraid since the entire class was as well! Brandon checks on everyone and gives detailed step by step instructions. You will be amazed on how well your painting turns out! This event is BYOB. I had the pleasure of visiting paint & sip a few weekends ago. I have seen friends post about paint and sips before. For this particular group outing, it was my sis in laws baby shower and the avenue was actually perfect for the get together. There is a small area in front where the girls set up some food and displays of cute pastries so they are pretty lax and accommodating for your event. We obviously only sipped on non alcoholics, though for myself I should have snuck a bottle of wine, I'm sure some of the other non preggos would have appreciated it haha!! The painting itself looked tough and we were wondering how we would finish in about two and a half hours. Brandon was our instructor and he did a great job of giving us step by step guidelines on how to paint the portrait. He was pretty funny and I was pretty impressed at how well he handled such a big group of us. We had the baby shower on a Sunday afternoon so it actually worked pretty well. Parking is free and I'm sure any other day would be tough to find because of restricted meter hours and anti gridlock zones. This has got to be one of the best experiences I have had in a long time. The small, 24-artist studio was easy to find and there was plenty of metered street parking. We opted for the $6 lot next to the studio. My party was a group of 10 people celebrating two birthdays. We had two medium-sized trays of food and several bottles of wine ~ oh and two dozen mini cupcakes. Brandon was awesomely accommodating and so very nice to all of us. He's got such a mellow spirit. Not one of us could paint our way out of a paper bag to save our lives. However, with Brandon's kind, patient, gentle and precise instructions, you couldn't TELL us we were not Kara Walker, Georgia O'Keeffe, Frida Kahlo, Grandma Moses...okay...maybe not Grandma...but you get my drift. We painted while listening (and singing) to a wonderfully eclectic soundtrack he had playing. All I can say is that we walked away buzzed...ahem, high, errr - elated on that feeling of accomplishment you get when you do something you never thought you had the talent to do. It's a nice activity, perfect for date nights or a hang out with friends - different than a typical movie night. Book your appointment online - based on the painting you want to recreate. They usually have specials on their website -- ranging from $25-$40 per person. They also have private events. I went with my work group of 15 and we all had fun. Some painted "better" than others, but it was a great experience nevertheless. The last instructor I had was with Magnolia. She was super patient, kind and encouraging. I really enjoyed her presences. She made the experience super fun. Parking is a small challenge. Street parking is available -- but you do have to watch the meter, every hour. Try to Uber to the event, so you don't have to keep leaving to refill the meter. Importantly, good luck and have fun. I've attended painting classes here a few times (I have five paintings adorning my walls to prove it) and it's always such an excellent experience. I feel like a pro. As the name implies, you'll be painting and sipping on whatever BYOB that you bring in. The class size is fits 24, assuming it sold out, which is manageable enough for the instructors to go around and talk to everyone. Brandon and Lisa have instructed the classes I've attended and they're so great! They teach with such finesse and they're very helpful with any questions that the students may have. There are different painting options to choose from, so make sure to consult their calendar. Most recently, Lisa was teaching the class an abstract painting from her own repertoire and it was very fun. I think it was less intimidating for the first-time painters to attempt something abstract as the interpretation doesn't have to be so literal. A good ice breaker for those who are inexperienced. Whenever I want to get together with friends, I suggest a paint class. This was a great place for my first paint & sip experience! All you have to do is bring a bottle of wine (if you want!), and they provide everything else (cups, art supplies, etc.) Make sure to check the calendar on their website and book a week or two early - some of the classes definitely get booked up before the day of the event! My boyfriend and I came on a Wednesday night, and it was a bit cheaper than coming in for a Friday or Saturday class ($30 each, rather than $40). Our instructor was Magnolia and she kept things fun and provided us with different options in case we wanted to do something a little bit different than the provided example! We were lucky enough to have Brandon Pizzola, the owner of the studio, as our instructor. His dynamic personality was definitely a large part of what made the evening so fun. Definitely one of the best and most fun things you can do in LA for $35. I was initially worried because I lack any artistic skills, but laughing at ourselves and our attempt to paint was half of the fun (you recreate a painting, with step by step instructions from the instructor). The wine (studio is BYO) helped too. It's not as much about the painting as having fun with friends, so don't worry if you are not the most artsy person on the planet. Even if you end up throwing your painting away or hiding it in the closet, it won't take away from the fun that you have. I wanted to host my birthday here and the entire process was nothing short of amazing. Brandon helped me to work out the logistics of my party and was very receptive, quick to answer, and detailed in his responses. He made me feel like he genuinely cared about making sure I had the best experience for my day. To rent out a studio, you have to have a minimum of 15 people (max 20). We had 18, and it worked out well! Our instructors name was Mindy and she is absolutely bomb! Me and my girls are a crazy bunch and love to dance and hype each other up, which can get loud at times. Mindy was totally fine with our extra-ness, and even joined in on the dancing once in a while, which we loved! Our paintings came out great and the ladies had an absolute blast. I discovered my inner Picasso at Pain & Sip Studio. Well, I don't know about that but I did realize that I enjoy painting and am pretty anal about getting every detail correct. Paint and Sip Studio is a small, hip art studio in the La Brea District of mid city Los Angeles. Parking is difficult. But once you score a metered parking space and walk up to the vibrantly painted studio floor, you're in for quite a treat. "You bring a bottle and we'll provide everything else," is their motto. The studio staff will provide you with a bottle opener, cups, and for painting-an apron, paint brushes, acrylic paints, a canvas. Our instructor, Tamara, was fabulous. She was very welcoming and enthusiastic. Tamara made painting for a novice like me, easy and enjoyable. Throughout the class Tamara played great music. The music noise level was reasonable, never too loud. Plus she strategically turned the music volume up when she gave us extra time to work on our painting, and lowered the volume when she modeled painting techniques. Before you know it, 2.5 hours passes by and you'll complete your very own masterpiece (and a bottle or two of your favorite wine)! At the end of the class, Tamara thanked us for participating in the class. She also encouraged us to 'leave our mark" by painting our name on the vibrant art studio walls. It was a really fun experience. It's a cute studio upstairs with great natural light. The teacher was really funny and put us all at ease (or maybe that was the wine. Or both). They provided glasses for the wine, bottled water for drinking, and music to listen to while we went to work on our canvases. For $20 with a deal, I wasn't expecting much. With the "low" expectations, I was still taken aback by the location. We went up this shady stairway that lead to about 4 doors. One was obviously a cute little barber shop. One was the restroom, which had a shower in it. I thought that was odd so I had to point that out in my review lol. Another door was labeled La Brea Club. I thought to myself, "This is some janky ass place to have a club.." but I soon realized it was a weed clinic basing it off the slight weed aroma floating around haha. Anyway back to my review, the class was very fun! It's BYOB. Glasses and painting supplies are provided. The class is 3 hours long. The instructor was full of energy and funny. He was able to keep us engaged the whole time! He was great at simplifying techniques so that we all look like we're somewhat artistic.. or maybe it was the booze making things look better. Not sure.
