F/U - Mike Thanh Nguyen of Paint Theory provides a FAKE insurance policy, verified by TWFG Woodlands' main office. The insurance agent, Linda Nguyen, is his relative and provided a fake insurance policy, signed by her (she claims it is forged and said she would call police, but then didn't and asked us "what do we want from Mike?"). He has stolen money from us, breached his contract, provided a fake liability insurance policy, and left a destroyed project in our home (where birds have been infiltrating the space he left). He is unresponsive and criminal. read more

First off, I don't like giving bad reviews. I usually post good reviews because I like finding good contractors on Yelp (and I've found a few.) Not so with these guys. I'm really puzzled by all the good reviews. I needed my 1600 square foot house repainted, so I got quotes from two of the top ranked people on Yelp in my area. Paint Theory was $1800 less than the other guys, and they would also replace all my interior doors. The other guys quoted me just for re-painting. I should have known from the price difference that something was up. READ THE CONTRACT - I should have read the contract carefully. We had a verbal agreement to paint all walls and ceilings. The contract said "paint lightly textured ceilings". The ceilings were popcorn so they didn't get painted. They compromised with me by touching up the ceiling edges where the previous owner had run over the edge. Even then it wasn't a great job. They did an OK job at best. The walls were painted and most of the rooms look good. But the bathrooms were painted a darker shade of blue and they obviously only did one coat because some of the previous color bled through. Again I should have read the contract, because it only specified one coat of paint. To me, if you're going to paint as a contractor, you should cover the surface with paint until it's right, you shouldn't limit it to one coat. They didn't use blue paint tape to make sure the edges were straight. They got paint all over everything! They didn't use a drop cloth anywhere! How does a professional painter not cover stuff with a drop cloth when painting?! My brand new toilets have little specks of paint all over them. They got paint on the floor. I asked them to clean the paint off the floors where it was obvious at the end of the job, but I've found paint all over the place since I moved in. I made it as easy as possible for them. The place had no furniture and I wasn't moved in so they had the place all to themselves. They took about 4-5 long days to do the project. It probably should have taken twice that or a bigger crew to do it properly. (And I told them I was in no rush, take as long as you need.) Originally Mike told me it would be done in a couple of days and I was very doubtful of that. Made me think he didn't know what he was talking about. I negotiated with them at the end of the job to fix the 10 worst mistakes and they did fix those to their credit. (Doors not finished installing, things not painted at all, paste and paint on floor, etc.) Overall it just seemed like a rush job and if I could do it all over again I would not use them, get more quotes, and not go with the lowest bidder. read more

Paint Theory did a really great job with my bathroom cabinets! I have four bathrooms that were a medium brown color and I wanted to change them to dark dark brown. Paint Theory advised me on how to get the color I wanted for the cabinets. I found the color I wanted and Paint Theory bought the color and chose a top coat that I like! I was worried that adding a top coat would make my cabinets too shiny, but they turned out great with the matte finish Paint Theory picked out! They completed the work on time, did not rush the job, and had great attention to detail! Their price is also very reasonable! I got a much higher quote from another company I called. Paint Theory just finished updating our kitchen and we could not be happier with the results! We had about a foot of blank space above our kitchen cabinets and they added molding from the top of cabinets to the ceiling. It turned out great! They also painted the cabinets white which took a lot of patience and care because of the wood and texture of the original brown cabinets. They had to paint them several times to get them right and Mike, Omar and crew were dedicated in ensuring the cabinets turned out right! We, also, added butcher block to our island and butler's pantry. We knew the look of the butcher block we wanted, but didn't know quite how to get there. Mike assisted us throughout helping us pick the right wood and stain to get the "look" we wanted. It also turned out great! In addition, we painted the kitchen and hall walls. Again, from the beginning, Mike assisted us in picking just the right paint and we love it! Mike was attentive and accessible from beginning to end. The painters, Omar & Daniel, were skilled, courteous, respectful, careful and tidy. They took great care in their work and wanted it to turn out well. The entire team deserves an A+!! We are hiring them again to paint the remainder of our downstairs. I am so happy we chose Paint Theory! read more

I would definitely recommend Paint Theory. Services I had done: drywall removal/repair, caulking, painting, power washing as a result of Harvey. -responsive: i requested a quote via yelp, less than 15 min later Kim responded with an appt time. Kim and Cesar came out the same day. They also gave me a quote later that evening. And started work the next day. -reasonable: I had gotten a few other quotes, some higher, another lower. I felt that they knew exactly what needed to be done and the price they charged was very fair. - responsible: I had to let the crew in/leave them alone in the house. Nothing was missing or out of place. -right: the job was done right, even a few add on things. I requested a special technique on a wall and Kim and Mike would not rest until I was happy with the work. -referable: I feel confident referring them to others. My neighbor used them after the first day they were here. I have given their number to several other people impacted by Harvey as well. I will use them again for any painting/repair needs I have. read more

After the hurricane our home was in shambles, we got estimates from a few companies and Paint Theory was one of the lowest. After meeting with Mike, we decided to go with his crew. Mike was very responsive. Good price for refinishing my ceiling. The work turned out fine. My only complaint is that the crew that was sent over the 2nd day was woefully unprepared. They did not have a ladder and disappeared for over an hour to get painting supplies. Finally, they left my house covered in a layer of plaster dust that they did not clean up. I would not let that dissuade you from using Paint Theory but their crews could use some better direction because it was a night and day difference between the 1st and 2nd day crew. read more

Very unreliable. I made an appointment for an estimate for the paint job for my entire interior house. I contacted Houston office. The sales person stated he can come out next day, but he never showed up. He did not even bother to let me know that he was late or not be able to make it to an appointment. I would do business with somewhere else. read more

It is companies like this that make you wish that YELP allowed negative stars. A 4-6 day contract with the Houston version of Paint Theory ran 3+ weeks until the company just decided that they had finished. A cursory review showed that they were nowhere near finished. A paint crew that was mostly unqualified with zero quality control and owners who were pathologically unable to give a straight answer to any direct question. A settlement ensued with the owner almost boasting, "Everyone loses". The next paint contractor I hired would only shake his head when repairing (as best as possible) the previous mistakes. I am the one left to clean paint off the bathroom vanities, ceiling fans and hardwood floors. Stay away is my only recommendation. read more
