Ok, I'll start out by saying I have never once played golf here. So, my review might not "work" for golfers. However I have attended a few events here. Most notably the 4th of July fireworks and food trucks etc. The golf course is basically my back yard, but I still haven't swing any clubs here - I'm more of a casual Top Golf guy lol I do have friends though that golf almost daily, and neighbors that do as well and take advantage of the courses proximity to our new homes. While the course was upkept nice, I had only came to accompany my boyfriend on 18 holes. I wasn't greeted with hospitality, but instead forced into the clubhouse to pay money once I got to hole 9. I was told that I had to pay a whole cart fee for just being present with him. I CAME WITH NO CLUBS TO PLAY AND MY BOYFRIEND WAS ONLY IN A GROUP WITH A FATHER AND SON (meaning he got a cart to himself anyway). With an establishment that was recommended by pretty "high name" people of the city, I'm surprised to see Painted Dunes making visitors pay a WHOLE cart fee just to spend time with their significant other, when there was room in the first place to accommodate. Also, another note, I came LATE because I was waiting for my boyfriend to let me know if he'd get his own cart anyway. I found my boyfriend at hole 5 and was tracked down at hole 7 being told to pay. I went to school at NMSU in the early 90. This was 1992, I think. Painted Dunes had just opened, I believe. The clubhouse was a trailer at that time, maybe it still is? When we got tired of the NMSU GC, we'd drive over from Las Cruses, and have the whole course to ourselves. Being from CT, I'd never played "desert" golf. The contrast of the green grass and the brown desert is something I'll never forget. Painted Dunes is a course I'd definitely love to get back to someday. read more

Pre Tee time scheduling is available in their website but not required. We walked in. Painted Dunes Desert Golf Course has a deal that if you register to get their emails they supposedly give you free Tee time for your birthday. (I will update and let you know) For being in the middle of the desert the golf course does a beautiful job maintaining the green. The club house is relatively small but who cares we are spending time on the green anyway. Their pro shop has anything you may need and has good costumer service. They got a bar and a restaurant but did not spend time there. The golf course does have marshals in their golf carts constantly checking around. They got water/cooling areas all around the course. Plenty of different wild life to see which is a rare yet beautiful thing for the area. Dress code is casual. read more

Great fun and somewhat east course. Got done with work early while on a sales trip and found this gem. 9 holes, rental clubs and cart for around $50 bucks I believe. Well worth it and totally enjoyed it. Can't wait to be back in the area to play it again. read more

This is an amazing track for any golfer who wants to practice in a challenging environment. First the young lady who checked me in was so nice and helpful came to find out that her husband was the greens keeper. This track was in great shape! From tee box to fairway to greens A++ Greens rolled great where probably running 10-11 today. It's amazing what a great course for the value. Before I forget Hector in the resteraunt what a nice person ... for any golfer who is in El Paso this is a course you must play . Had a blast here. The course to me is a good course to learn how to play the game. There are challenging holes and there are easy holes. Overall I was pleased at the design of the course. I'm no expert but I grew up in a golfing family. I will definitely be taking my children here to learn as they get older. The staff was friendly and very helpful. I called for a new cart and it was brought to me in less than five minutes. I suggest you go see for yourself. It will challenge you if you are new or just play every once in a while. But if you are avid it will be a good course to practice your long ball game. Enjoy. read more

I would have probably given Painted Dunes 4 stars, but they lost a star for their service in the pro shop. First the course. I played West and East (twice) and I found them both to be very playable and enjoyable. There were some bare spots in the side of some of the fairways (irrigation problems?) and the greens had been recently aerated (that can't be avoided). Overall I thought the golf was adequate. Now the negative. When I arrived, I told the gentleman (that never smiles or makes you feel welcome) my name and that I had a 7:30 tee time (I knew it was around 7:30). He told me he didn't see me in the system, so I had to pull up my confirmation email to determine it was 7:28. So then he suddenly finds it (7:28 is that far from 7:30?). So he says I'll be playing with another group (I assumed that would be the case). He then tells me it is $48. I said I thought it was less on my booking - but I again I wasn't certain of the exact amount. He said that was the weekend rate. So I checked the email again, but they conveniently don't put the amount due on the email. I figured maybe I was confusing with another course I was playing. So I paid the $48 and played. After my round I wanted to see if I could slide in for an afternoon round after some lunch. The same guy was at the desk. He had just told a walk up twosome in front of me that he had a 12:56 time for them and possibly something sooner. So I asked him about a replay and barely looked at the screen and said he saw nothing so check back after I eat. While I'm eating lunch, I see him break for lunch (end of his day?) and sitting on the back deck. And I'm wondering if he told the next person at the desk about me. He even saw me sitting in the restaurant. So I went into the pro shop and asked the guy now behind the desk - and he tells me there is a threesome going out right now and I can join them! So I pay and run out there - and it's the twosome from before with another single. So the answer is no, the first guy would rather I miss the opening. Probably penance for questioning the rate earlier. Also - it turns out I reserved a time for $41 because I booked more than 3 days in advance, so I was overcharged. The pro shop really needs to find some friendlier help and make sure they are charging the booked amount. read more

The greens are in great condition and the grounds are allowed to remain true to their Chihuahan Desert roots. I really enjoyed the desert golfing. A the views were fantastic! The pace was a bit slow but that may be from so many par 3s. My only complaint was about the pro shop staff. One gentleman was pretty rude from the moment we walked in. He was rude to most everyone, not just us. No eye contact, ignoring people, arrogance, even flat-out laziness. Customer service must not be high on their list of important business tactics. Too bad.... It would have gotten 5 stars from me if it weren't for the horrid customer service given by the older pro shop guy. read more

With the exception of Butterfield, Painted Dunes is probably the best course in El Paso, and green fee's will cost you $15-$30 less than Butterfield. (Butterfield rates vary depending on where you live) In additon to that, having 27 holes at your disposal gives you a little more variety, and every time you play, you typically will experience a different order of holes. The fairways are easily the best kept in town, and at first glance one might not even think they are real grass as they seem to lush for El Paso. The greens are equally well maintained, although every once in a while a few holes will go under repair or reseeding, but it's only a minor inconvenience. Some people I talk to think their pro shop staff can be rude, but I have never experienced this, and I think if you show up looking respectable they will be pleasant. Anyone from locals to out of towners who like golf absolutely have to give Painted Dunes a try. $18 twilight fees including a cart can't be beat. read more

The course fairways are hard as rock and the only thing that helps slow the ball down is the sand and dirt on the fairways. I will say the greens and fringe are decent but the greens are ridiculously fast since they are also hard. More water is needed. The 2 star rating is generous but it's primarily for the club house staff which were very accommodating. Consider closing the north course until you can get it back into decent shape. read more

Pretty Decent 3 challenging 9-hole courses. Courses are well maintained. Layout is somewhat confusing. Scenery is pretty. Prices are affordable. Pro Shop was good, they could be friendlier. Concessions are reasonable and the beer is cold. read more

Absolutely worse Golf Course in El Paso. Slow ..... slow....and slower. The marshals does absolutely nothing to keep the pace of play within time. We started 30 mins after our time time and then waited 20 mins between shots. I Will not be coming back. I will be make sure to spread the word. read more

The worst place I have ever eaten!!!!!! Do not come here for the holiday buffet specials. I paid 26.00 for 2 plates of slop that were super cold and greasy. Not very kid friendly choices and my 2 and 3 yr old would have nothing to do it. So disappointed that I waisted my time and money coming here for Easter. It was so gross and the staff just kind of lets you just wait around like no big deal. Yuck, yuck, and no thank you. You need to do better! read more

Very disappointed with the lack of service at Painted Dunes. I am surprised that they would treat the few customers they do have with such poor service. We have played Painted Dunes numerous times for many years; in our recent visit, we were charged for an additional cart fee because they were "low on carts" that was literally what the young man behind the counter said! When we questioned why the fee was so high he stated..."it's only an additional $20"! WHAT?!?! We will no longer be visiting Painted Dunes, which is very sad. Only in el paso can you play a ken dye golf course, in excellent shape for 25 bucks all in. This even includes a cart. Pace was excellent and it wasn't even a problem getting a tee time last minute on a Sunday morning. read more

I've been playing here every week for over 2 years now. This is the best deal in town. If you play regularly, sign up for a Platinum Membership and you can't beat the price. 3 championship level 9 hole courses that are well maintained and playable, yet challenging. Played for the first time today. The group in front of us was very slow(hitting multiple balls, going back and forth to rehit balls) and there were no rangers in site. I was playing with two members who also complained. Then it rained.... So I went for a rain check.... I was told that they didnt give rainchecks after 3. This was not explained to me when I paid at 2:30 . My response was well is there a sign posted? They responded that there is a sign (small one at that) on the wall by the register (not at a place that is really noticed). My comment to them was when I visit a pro shop I dont make it a habit of reading every sign in the place. I am new to El Paso and there are plenty of other golf courses out there... they will not be getting any more of my money... what a rip off read more

I golfed many golf courses but was met with unprofessionalism at the counter and on the first hole with my friend. We initially booked a tee time for 930 upon arriving we agreed to go out earlier as per their request. As we were loading our cart they called for us to even earlier to the first hole. When we got to the first hole they merged us with another individual who also had a similar experience. While we were on the course they diverted our party to North course which seemed under kept and under played. I was initially excited to golf here but the aggressiveness from the people who work the course made the experience unpleasant. read more

Please don't use Painted Dunes to Plan an event or party at there Pavilion, it was the worst experience we had. We had to pay $500.00 to rent the Pavilion for 6 hours, and when we got there to decorate at 10am nothing was done as plan by the planner Arwen (Marketing). We had to wash down all the tables ourselves and chairs, the floors were filthy, I was given a bucket with hole in it to clean the tables and chairs. There was only 25% of the lights working and we to go to Walmart to purchase additional extension cords ourselves. On top of all of that, we were told we get the containers for the water and sodas with ice, but the buckets were only half-filled with ice. Arwen (Marketing) was no where to be found. Lucky we found 2 nice gentlemen from the kitchen to help us. We have tried calling manager several times and leaving messages but no response. Painted Dunes gets a 0 for ratings for party planning. Great course! Played it today for the first time and will play it again. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the fact that I booked my tee time on line and when I got to the course, I was charged a different price than what I booked my tee time for. I'm military and the cost online was $30.00 and I was charged $48.25 at the course. When I informed the guy at the pro shop of the discrepancy, he told me that there was nothing he could do about it. On the receipt, it showed that I was charged the First Responders rate and according to guy at the pro shop, it's the same as for military. However, on the their website, they are two different fees. The military rate was $30.00 and First Responders rate was $45.00. These rates are clearly identified on the Painted Dunes Website. It's surprising to me that the pro shop staff didn't know this or would not honor their online prices. read more
